A delightful house in a beautiful setting. The place for a relaxing holiday

Situated on the peaceful Island of Andros,, this two story house is ideally situated on a hill in a large natural garden with Olive and Cypress trees, overlooking Andros Town and the sea. The house is not accessible by car, but is a minute’s walk from the road through an ancient stone paved footpath, one of the traditional footpaths Andros is famous for and is popular with hikers and nature lovers. The Island of Andros has been voted the N0 1 for European Islands by the European Ramblers Association, who gave Andros the sign Leading Quality Trails, Best of Europe, This Ypsila house is perfectly located to connect with the hiking network. There is also a popular tavern within a walking distance from the house.

This two hundred years old farmhouse is lovingly restored to reflect the spirit of the Island with thick whitewashed stone walls, island blue window shutters, rafted ceilings and stone tiled floors. It comes fully furnished with antique island furniture, incorporating all modern amenities. Bed sheets and towels are provided. No pets

The House is 250 m2 on two levels and consists of:

Upper floor : 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchenette, a living room and a large terrace with panoramic view. Lower floor : 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a kitchen (incl. a dishwasher and a washing machine) and a living room (w. a daybed) and a covered terrace.

The House can be rented in blocks of one week at a time, 7 nights (minimum): Upper floor sleeps 5 ( 6 if 2 people share a large single bed)) Lower floor sleeps 2 ( 3 if daybed in livingroom is used)

Relax nella verde Andros

Abbiamo trascorso una piacevole e rilassante vacanza, scoprendo la meno nota al turismo di massa delle isole Cicladi ma non meno interessante isola di Andros. Abbiamo soggiornato nella bella casa di Lida che ci è venuta ad accogliere da Atene personalmente, indicandoci alcune attrattive di Andros town e dintorni. La casa è immersa nel verde da cui si gode di una spettacolare vista della baia di Andros Town, relax e silenzio fanno da padroni. È attrezzata di qualsiasi cosa si possa avere necessità, è dotata di due splendide terrazze in cui abbiamo fatto le colazioni al mattino sotto il pergolato e al tramonto sorseggiato aperitivi.

La descrizione dell'annuncio corrisponde alle condizioni reali della casa e non ci sono state sorprese negative, anzi!

Raccomandiamo la casa di Lida a chi vuole passare una vacanza greca lontano dal turismo di massa sperando di tornare in futuro: grazie per la bella scoperta!

Wonderful house, fantastic view and surroundings

Halldor and Lida are wonderful hosts, always ready to assist. The house is beautiful, very charismatic, cosy with nice interior. The location is good, right up in the mountains, close to Andros town which is a wonderful town and also close to a few beaches. I would recommend a stay there and hope that I will be able to come bach.

Perfect

The house was beautiful and perfectly equipped - the decor was simple, rustic and stylish - the pictures don't do it justice! The views were stunning - a quick walk to the Asimoleyka taverna where we enjoyed the food (the burgers and the lamb with lemon sauce were outstanding). A quick drive to the beach, where we spent quite a bit of time! Lida and Halldor were charming and hospitable - we were grateful for the basket provided. We will definitely be back.

Dix jours parfaits à Andros

Nous avons eu le plaisir de rencontrer Lida et Halldor Briem, venus spécialement d'Athènes pour nous accueillir. Leur maison nous a beaucoup plu par son authenticité et sa situation. Entourée d'oliviers, calme, et nous avons beaucoup apprécié les terrasses avec une vue à couper le souffle. Quant à l'interieur il est à la fois chaleureux et raffiné. Nous ne pouvons que conseiller cette maison exceptionnelle.

Authentic and amazing experience

The house is well situated in a remote place in the backcountry with and dominant view and at a short distance of Chora. We've loved the peacefull and authenticity of this place. The house is naturally cooled by thick walls and air flowing through (Andros is often windy) ; very convenient with enough room for two families (8 persons) that may keep their privacy as well as sharing meals on the patio . The rooms are tastefully and well furnished and very confortables. We've appreciated the warm wellcome of our hosts open minded with an International experience and speaking several langages including an excellent french.

We warmly recommend this amazing experience.

Unforgettable Greek Island Experience

I have stayed at the Briem's gorgeous island house several times (in the summer and fall) while on vacation from Chicago. If you are looking for a serene environment with breathtaking views, traditional Greek character and international charm, this place is it. The Briems are also wonderful people to work with and will really go the extra mile to make sure you have the best possible experience. I am not exaggerating when I say this is one of the nicest vacation experiences I have had. The house itself is immaculately clean and every small detail is attended to in the way you would only expect from serious professionals. The summertime comes with grapes on the trellis, blooming almond, jasmine, and lemon trees, and the early fall brings figs, pomegranates, and of course, olives! Andros itself is a delightful island with beautiful beaches and plenty of hiking trails and villages to explore. I cannot recommend the Briem house enough!

Located on an ancient walking path with view of Andros town and the sea, , 500 m from a tavern

The Island of Andros is two hours by Ferry Boat from the port of Rafina on the Greek Mainland (thirty minutes by car from Athens). The house itself is a short fourty five minutes scenic drive from Andros’ principal port of Gavrio. The island is the closest to Athens of the Cyclades Chain of Islands, followed by the Island of Tinos and then Mykonos (three hours from Andros).

The two story house is ideally situated on a hill in a large natural garden with Olive and Cypress trees, overlooking Andros Town and the sea. The house is not accessible by car, but is a minute’s walk from the road through an ancient stone paved footpath, one of the traditional footpaths Andros is famous for, popular with hikers and nature lovers. There is also a popular tavern within a walking distance from the house.

The town of Andros, with its pedestrian neo-classical town center, world-class museums, restaurants and outdoor cafes, is a ten minute drive from the house. There is an array of nice beaches nearby, the closest one a five minutes drive away. Also there are some notable Byzantine churches and monasteries to visit. Thus a car is a must for Andros and can be rented either in Athens or on the Island, but arrangements have to be done well in advance.

Andros is the greenest among all the Cycladic islands. Its lush vegetation is made up of oaks, centuries old plane trees, cypresses, olive, walnut and lemon trees. The Island is truly a trekkers paradise and has long been known to the selected few for its off or on season hiking trips. The Country House is ideally situated for such holidays, as well as holidays for those who love the serenity of the country side.

The present day visitor to Andros can easily observe the traces of the old footpaths which traverse the island. These ancient footpaths follow the natural passes over mountains and alongside streams connecting the various areas of the of the island. These footpaths, at least in the basic lay out, have remained the same since deep antiquity till the present day and have supported the social and economic life of the island from pre-historic times until the post-war years. Whoever wishes to know the authentic Andros will need do no more than hike the trails. For more information see:

Andros is also famous for its numerous springs. The most famous of all are the “Sariza Springs”. Sariza mineral water is best known for properties aiding kidney problems.The water is bottled in Apoikia, just a short distance by car from the House.

The villages of Andros are ideal for touring. The busiest of them are Andros town (Chora), which is the capital of the island, Gavrio, Batsi, Korthi, Apoikia and Paleopolis. Driving from one village to the other you will come across beautiful beaches with fine white sand and small pebbles. There are also some remote beaches that can only be approached by boat.

Andros includes many options for excursion and it responds to every requirement for calm, relaxed, and carefree holiday and the island is famous for its enchanting beaches. Furthermore,the town of Andros has a splendid Archeological Museum housing the famous 1st century BC Hermes of Andros ( a Roman copy of Hermes by Praxiteles). There are also other cultural resorts to visit like:

• The Vassilis and Eliza Goulandris Foundation, who organize an exhibition of international stature at the Museum of Modern Arts every summer.

• The Petros and Marika Kydonieos Foundation, who organize a modern art and musical fairs mostly known as “Ploes” every year.
