Self-catering apartments, located in the grounds of a former sugar plantation. Very comfortable accommodation with lovely views to the Atlantic Ocean and Mount Liamuga - a sleeping volcano, and its ascending rain forest. Each of the four apartments has direct access to the spacious tropical gardens where guests can relax or explore at leisure. The gardens are a great venue to barbecue or experiment with the local rums! Within easy reach of beaches, small local shops and restaurants. Please note, Mule House is an environmentally friendly establishment so we encourage recycling behaviour, use solar energy in part, offer communal laundry facilites as opposed to individual unit washers and use fans rather than energy guzzling a/c.
Self-contained, spacious and airy. Two of the apartments are first floor level and have access onto the veranda and two are at garden level. All are wired for both UK and US electrics, and have either free standing or ceiling fans. There is a communal US washing machine for guests personal washing (no extra cost for this) and access to a landline telephone.
Mule House is surrounded by spacious tropical gardens where there is a barbeque for guests use and part of our garden supplies guests with delicious seasonal Caribbean fruits/vegetables.
There are beautiful, mostly deserted white and black beaches, on the Caribbean and Atlantic coasts and a good variety of beach and water sports for both young and not so young as well as PADI courses for more experienced snorkellers and divers. Local small shops are a 10 minutes stroll. Larger supermarkets, fruit/vegetable/fish market, newsagents are situated in Basseterre, the capital 5 miles away. West Indian, Creole and International restaurants are scattered around St Kitts.
St Kitts is a very healthy Isle - our water is 100% safe to drink and visitors do not require inoculations.

What a great start to our 10 day vacation on St Kitts! Sue and Ray have a beautiful home nestled in a lovely landscape. Once you pull off the main road, you feel like you are entering a remote mini-jungle.There are remnants of sugar plantation ruins on the premises, as well as fruit trees, flowering bushes and wildlife. Enjoying the view of the Atlantic ocean from our 2nd floor balcony was a wonderful way to start and end our day. The apartment was perfect for our needs and Sue was very helpful with getting information on rental cars, booking the rental and meeting us at the rental facility to bring us to the Mule House. She even picked up some essential groceries for us before we arrived, and provided a local bottle of rum, which made our first night there even more enjoyable! A highlight of our stay was getting a fresh coconut opened for us and enjoying the coconut water straight from the coconut!
The Mule House is located close to the airport and the capital, and the beaches are a short drive away. A rental car is a must, and driving here is fairly easy. (They do drive on the left, so coming from the US, it did take a day or so to get used to that). If you are looking for a quiet, affordable place with beautiful grounds and a view of the ocean, the Mule House is the perfect place. We would recommend the Mule House and would stay here again. Thank you Sue and Ray for sharing your beautiful home with us!

We could not have asked for a more fantastic spot on St Kitts! Sue was a fantastic host, from meeting us at the rental car office to guide us to the property, to providing excellent recommendations for lunches and dinners. The balcony looks out on the plantations gorgeous gardens and the ocean, and you get a great view of Mt Liamuiga out the front door. You definitely need a rental car if you are staying here, and I'd recommend it in general on the islands, as it's not hard to navigate. Thankfully Sue had us well prepared before we arrived! We would definitely return to the Mule House
Spring 2013 we decided to capture Caribbean and chose St. Kitts & Nevis, without better reason :D. Those looked small and beautiful islands and weather would be a lot better than in Finland at this time of year.
When we arrived to Basseterre our landlord, Sue, was waiting for us at the airport and took us to the rent house. During two weeks we did sightseeing tours with our rental car and took one day trip to the Nevis island too.
We cooked every night with traditional Caribbean barbecue which our landlords gave us to use. In Basseterre there is a little fish hall where local fisheries bring their catches. If you are there at morning you can buy fresh fish, we recommend!
Beaches are must see. We liked South Friar´s Bay especially. In Basseterre local people sells vegetables and fruits at market every Saturday. And if you want hiking take a guide and go up to the edge of the caldera. We recommend O´Neill! Best guide on the island.
Finally we would like to say Thank You to our landlords, Sue and Ray, who heartly welcomed us and gave a lot of tips! Amazing holiday!

Mulehouse is a wonderful place to stay! I cannot recommend it highly enough! Myself and four colleagues stayed there for around 2 months while we were working in St Kitts. Sue and Ray are the perfect hosts, so helpful, kind and friendly. They provided us with lots of really great local information, and made us feel so welcome in their beautiful home and garden. The apartments are lovely, very clean, with a well stocked kitchen and comfortable beds...and the garden surrounding the house is stunning! A proper tropical experience, and Sue and Ray were always quick to offer us some of the delights from their garden...fresh coconut, soursop, papayas. Perfect! Thank you Sue and Ray for making our stay in St Kitts so enjoyable!
My wife and I have returned to Mule House twelve times. Starting in 2000 we only stayed for seven days to see what ST Kitts and Mule House was like. We returned for two weeks each year after that, rising to five weeks for our visit this year. Mule House run by Sue and Ray is ideal for relaxation with the tropical gardens bearing all kinds of fruit ( they taste so much better fresh from the garden).
The island of St Kitts is a beautiful place with many places to visit from the rain forest to old plantations and the beaches, the friendly people and and the laid back atmosphere gives people all the opportunity to time in the world to chill out and enjoy. We recommend Mule House to everyone.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at Mule House. The apartment was spacious, very clean and well appointed. The surrounding gardens are spectacular in beauty and bounty, including papaya, citrus, avocado, mango and star and passion fruit. Our gracious hosts, Sue and Ray, were always helpful from meeting us at the airport to assisting with shopping and beach recommendations. Sue also gave valuable assistance in dealing with a rental car problem.
We highly recommend these accommodations.
Brighton was one of the first plantations to be established on St Kitts. 5 miles out of Basseteere on the Atlantic coastline we enjoy fantastic ocean, rain forest and mountain views. The hamlet of Brighton is situated between Cayon and Ottleys villages, which offer small superettes, local bakers, post office, Green Valley Pub and other small eateries. As Mule House is located in the UNESCO designated St Mary's BioSphere Reserve, our location provides an excellent opportunity to explore lower reaches of the rain forest and walks to the nearest shoreline at Hermitage Bay and experience the diversity of flora and fauna from mountain ridge to reef first hand.
Other Activities: Rain forest walks, scenic railway trip, historical sites/museums, visit Nevis, our little 'sister' isle.
