About the property

Spacious apt, for 4 ad. + 2 kids; easy access to ski lift and all amenities

We would be delighted to welcome you to Snowgums and Serre Chevalier. We are a quirky chalet with heaps of character, ideally situated at the heart of Serre Chevalier, midway between Briancon and Chantemerle ski stations in winter, and in the middle of everything the region has to offer - hiking, cycling, swimming, history, and so much more, in the summer.

Snowgums has a great ski boot room, wifi throughout, excellent showers, and a cool sledging slope opposite the house. We have two beautiful, spacious apartments, sleeping 6 and 6, in our wonderful, old farmhouse. There is lots to do here, skiing, snowboarding, sledging, relaxing, snow-shoeing, thermal spa, visiting the UNESCO world heritage listed old town etc. We are in a quiet village but 5 minutes from everything you could need.

All linen is provided, including feather pillows and duvets. We are very family oriented with a great games cupboard for all ages, from babies, through toddlers and children to adults, and books and magazines to read. Babies and toddler’s cot, highchair, bath etc available on request.

We are just two minutes by car to the Chantemerle cable-car, or you can take the free local bus direct to the cablecar from near the house – saves dealing with snow chains, digging the car out of the snow first thing and parking! There is 25-40% discount on ski hire for our clients at our favourite local ski hire shop.

Accommodation is self-catering but you may choose to have some or all of your evening meals prepared here for you by excellent local chef Nathalie. Meals are then ready for you to have at a time that is convenient to you, without having to go out to restaurants, or to spend a lot of time food shopping, and leaves you free to grab a pastry or prepare your own choice for breakfasts and have your lunches on the slopes, for one or as many of your days here as you choose, from 22 euros per head per meal for four courses plus wine. Highly recommended.

Why Pippa Curtis chose Forville

Our house, Snowgums is a wonderful old farmhouse which has been renovated authentically and environmentally. Heaps of character, kids love the staircase and shelves spilling over with toys and games, and parents love its charm. The walled garden gives calm and privacy, and we are located between Briancon and Serre Chevalier, so only 5 minutes to everything you need!

What makes this apartment unique

A really authentic old building in a quiet village, with huge empty field in front of the house which slopes down to the glacial river, the Guisane. We hear cow bells in summer, as well as the torrent of the river, the Tour de France comes past our door, there are wild boar in the forest on the other side of the valley, and there's a free ski bus to the Chantemerle cablecar. Perfect.

Historic fortified Unesco listed old town of Briancon, ski valley of Serre Chevalier, 15 minutes to Italy, thermal baths at Monetier les Bains, 10 minutes, kayaking, rafting, climbing, hiking, mountain biking, cycle touring, lake and beach, horse-riding, pool, ice rink, restaurants, shops, all 5 minutes away.

Ski: We are in the ski valley of Serre Chevalier, 2 minutes from the main cable car at Chantemerle. Serre Chevalier is one of the biggest ski resorts in Europe. Serre Chevalier covers 250 kilometres of pistes, at altitudes of between 1200 and 2800 metres, for everyone from beginners to expert skiers! Serre Chevalier, in the Alps, is a long south-facing valley between the Col du Lautaret and Briançon with 16 villages and hamlets dotted along the way, ranging from the ultra modern to the most traditional. Highest point served by lift - 2830m.

Free shuttle bus takes you from near the house direct to Chantemerle cable car, without snow chains, digging car out of snow etc.

Montgenevre skiing is 15 minutes drive away, Claviere in Italy 20 minutes, The Milky Way (400kms of pistes) in Italy 30 minutes, Puy St VIncent 40 minutes, La Grave 40 minutes, Les Deux Alpes 1 hr 15 minutes, and Alpes Duez 1 hr 30 minutes - so there is lots to go at!!
