About Gudrun

Born and raised in beutiful Iceland with strong ties to the country. Mother of three and large extended family. We have lived in the UK sine 2006 but spend all our summers in our house in Iceland or travelling around Iceland, hiking, fishing, horse riding, golfing and all we enjoy the most at this magical place in the North Atlantic.

Gudrun purchased this house in 2009

Why Gudrun chose Southern Region

We wanted to have a home in Iceland where we could spend time with our children but have space to entertain family and friends. The location is in a beautiful rural setting but still within reasonable reach from Reykjavik, services, friends etc. This part of Iceland is also known as one of the best weather location ... although not many people go to Iceland for the weather ... which is thankfully compensated by the extra ordinary natural beauty of the island.

What makes this house unique

The view from the living room and off the veranda are breathtaking in all seasons. Turning off all the lights in the winter will cancel out any light pollution and the northern lights can be spectacular.

Great spot, lots of room, quiet with a great view.

Our family trip was special with all the room. We had our family of 5 and parents (who enjoyed the guest house) and did not feel cramped. Amenities were all there, and the photos were an accurate representation of the property. Thanks again we will be back for sure !

Wonderful Place/Base for Iceland Experience

  • 5 of 5

Traveled to Iceland for the first time with 9 adults (3 couples and 3 college age boys). This house was truly the perfect place and fit to base our visit. From our first contact via email with the owners until our return home, they were outstanding to work with. They truly wanted to make sure we were happy and our visit to their homeland was a positive experience. The house is located in the perfect place to experience everything Iceland.

Thank you Gudmundur, Gudrun, and Hulda for making sure we enjoyed our visit. Your house and country are amazing!

Perfect holiday home!

  • 5 of 5

We were two families reuniting for the New Year holiday and chose this house for its location and amenities, which did not disappoint. Cannot say enough nice things about the owners who were responsive and very accommodating. Our trip surpassed our expectations — the highlight was getting to see the Northern Lights on New Years’ Eve!

Amazing property in stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 5 nights as a party of 7 adults & there was more than enough space for us all. The house was well equipped & had everything we needed. It was a great base for exploring the Golden Circle & beyond. Would highly recommend this place, the owners were very helpful and easy to deal with.

Beautiful setting comfortable home!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this property and our time in Iceland! Our hosts were super accommodating and easy to communicate with. We booked over a year in advance in order to run the Reykjavik Marathon and we brought our family members with us! The home is very comfortable and spacious with beautiful views, but also close to amenities (food, gas).

Fabulous house, fabulous location, fabulous holiday!

  • 5 of 5

A party of 12 of us stayed at Gudrun and Gudmundur's beautiful house, which is about 90 minutes from the airport. Two of the children were able to sleep in the loft area of the lodge, which is a separate building adjacent to the main house that also has a double bedroom, bathroom and the sauna. They thought it was quite an adventure.

The house is well laid out and there is a lot of space for a big group. We had come from the UK, Switzerland and America and it was a perfect location for us to be together and explore the area.

Gudrun's mum, Hilda, met me and my husband at the airport with the mobile phone so we could get through the security gate at the end of the road and she was very helpful througout the holiday answering questions we had about aspects of the house (thank you Hilda!). Gudrun also kept in email contact with ideas and advice which was was very welcome and it felt like nothing was too much trouble.

The children loved the spa so it was well used. We all managed to fit around the extendable table at the end of the day and the kitchen was well equipped. We used the BBQ a number of times (you can get a new canister from the local garage but be warned it costs about $50) but really everything that we needed was there, including a waffle maker!

Selfoss has a couple of supermarkets, a wine shop, a petrol sation and a few restaurants (that we didn't try). The house is a great location to see so many of the amazing sights of southern Iceland and I would urge you to make the trip to Jokulsarlon to see the iceburgs. It takes around four hours but they are just amazing and there is so much to see on the way. We stopped several times on the way back as well so it was long day but one of the best. We didn't book a boat trip, which is advised, but we were able to book one there. Close to Jokulsarlon is Fijallsarlon glacier which is also well worth a stop.

Iceland is expensive (even the Swiss thought so) but don't let that put you off coming. Just save bit harder and make lots of picnics :-) Planning seems to be the key.

We had a go at climbing up the mountain behind the house. There's no path and it gets tricky near the top but you might figure it out (unlike us!). A week really isn't long enough to explore this part of Iceland and especially what is on your doorstep but that just means we might have to return another year.

I'd have no hesitation in booking this house again, it was perfect.
