Private self contained holiday let with garden and great views over the moor

Walkers Retreat Holiday Let is set in beautiful gardens and provides stunning views over the Moor. The accommodation is newly refurbished and offers a warm and cosy atmosphere.

Walkers Retreat is very private with its own parking area within the grounds and private front door on the side of the property. You're more then welcome to explore the 2.2 acres of garden and enjoy the beautiful views over the Moor to the fullest.

Walkers Retreat is situated on the edge of the village Holne and is conveniently only five minutes walk from the village shop/ tearoom and Church House Inn.

Alex and Samantha, the owners, are happy to provide information over the area and will do their utmost to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

Alex and Samantha moved into Ashton Court in August 2014 together with our four year old daughter and our baby girl. We enjoy the beautiful garden so much, stunning views and the village way of life.

We totally fell in love with the wonderful view over the valley and the moor. We are on the edge of the village Holne which makes the garden and surroundings very tranquil but still the pub and the convenient village shop are very close by.

What makes this apartment unique

Stunning views and surrounded by beautiful gardens with facilities of Holne village within easy walking distance. The Walkers Retreat holiday let has its private entrance and own parking within the grounds of Ashton Court. Walks to the Moor or River Dart can be easily made from the property.

Perfect for Two

The apartment was lovely with a really comfy bed and the gardens excellent. The local cafe/tea room in Holne was a great find for a late breakfast or afternoon coffee and home made cake. Walker's Retreat is a really good base for exploring the surrounding countryside and Moors. I'd recommend the walk down to Scoriton to the Tradesman's Arms for dinner as the lady that runs it is quite a character (I didn't catch her name) and the food is good with daily specials. Sadly the Church Inn in Holne village which is closer has been closed since April 16 and according to the door will be until further notice.

Cosy, comfortable with beautiful views!

It is what it says a real retreat! Quiet and beautiful with everything you need. We had cold weather and the accommodation was lovely and warm. I loved waking up and opening the curtains to see the weather changing over the moor. Thank you to Sam and Alex. We will be returning!

A cottage not to be missed

We were very satisfied and comfortable with our week's stay at Walker's Retreat. The cottage was well furnished and clean. The kitchen was well equipped and the knives were sharp, which is not very common in most self-catering cottages. We received a most warm welcome from Samantha and Alex.

addictive ;-)

Dear Sam and Alex, our 5th stay in Dartmoor but a different accomodation this year. We loved it in that moment, when we opened the door. No idea where to start to discribe how wonderfull it is. The breathtaking view, the tranquility, nicely decorated rooms ,your kindness, helpfullness. We would recommend Walkers retreat without hesitation. Thank you very much. The little bunch of bay leaves, Alex gave us, brings memories every day.

What a great place to stay.

Great view on the the Dartmoor hills. Very nice garden. A lot of privacy. Very friendly and helpfull owners. Nice apparment with good facilities. A good location to start hiking in Dartmoor hills. We enjoyed out stay very much. Go and see it!

A delightful place to stay

A really delightful place to stay. Very tastefully furnished, and appointed with great care to make guests as comfortable as possible. Particularly well equipped. The bathroom is downstairs, however, the separate toilet is next to the bedroom upstairs.

Superbly positioned on the edge of Dartmoor with wonderful view as photo shows, and a short walk into the village which has an excellent pub and a very well stocked community shop. Samantha and Alex were very welcoming and our only disappointment was having to leave after just a short stay.

Walkers Retreat is set in beautiful gardens in a stunning rural location on the edge of the village Holne and in Dartmoor National Park. From the property and garden you can enjoy distant views across the Dartmoor landscape and Scoriton valley.

Holne village offers a well stocked village shop and tearoom, church and the Church House Inn pub all about 400 yards away. The local town of Ashburton offers plenty of independent shops, pubs, tearooms and restaurants.

A network of footpaths and bridleways leads on to the moor and further afield. There is easy access to the South Hams and the coast as well as the historic cathedral city of Exeter.

Dartington Hall with its cultural activities, art cinema, restaurant and gardens lie close by as does the vibrant market town Totnes, which offers the steam train and boat trips to the coastal town of Dartmouth. A visit to the historic Widecombe in the Moor is a must.

Activities available locally include canoeing, fishing, walking and the unusual activity of ’letter boxing’ which is ideal for walkers, and just down the lane carriage driving courses. There are many exciting spots for birdwatchers (including our own resident owls!) and deer watchers. Dartmoor ponies can be found close to the property.

The extensive coastline of the south west peninsula offers endless opportunities to enjoy water sports, surfing or just a day at the seaside - all very close by.
