Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Mouraria - Olarias House!

The flat is furnished and equipped for three people. Right in the city center!

It´s a freshly restored ground-floor apartment, with independent entrance through a courtyard. Is located in the heart of “Mouraria”, one of the most emblematic quarters in Lisbon because of is ancient history and multiculturalism.

The flat is full furnished and equipped with fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, oven, vitroceramic hob, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, stick blender, iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, free WI-FI everything needed for four guests. the apartment has 40m2 area. It has a bedroom with double bed, living room with sofa-bed, bathroom and a courtyard where you can enjoy a meal outdoors.

The accessibilities are a strong point of our location since we are only 15min away from the airport (by car) and a couple of minutes walking to the bus stop, 28 tram stop, Martim Moniz metro station, taxi plaza and Rossio Train station that can take you to Sintra and Cascais.

The whole surrounding area offers dozens of restaurants, traditional shops, super markets, Fado houses, cafes, shops and pharmacies.

Once we are in the heart of the city you can walk through the narrow streets and discover the main sights which are near to the apartment as São Jorge Castel, Rossio Square, Terreiro do Paço, Baixa-Chiado, Bairro Alto, Alfama (…), and experience the Lisbon’s inhabitants unique way of life.

Mouraria is where the Moors were allowed to live after the conquest of Lisbon in 1147 before being expelled together with the Jews in 1497. Little survives from that period except for traces of the medieval wall but this curiously remains the most multiethnic neighborhood in the city. The majority of the foreign population is from Bangladesh, followed by immigrants from China, India, Pakistan, and Mozambique.

It's nonetheless a very authentically Lisbon neighborhood known as the birthplace of Fado. It was here that the first great Fado singer lived in the 1800s, the legendary Severa who fell in love with a count and took the music of the people to the aristocracy. Mouraria life has always been marked by the sound of the guitars, the sound of taverns, brothels music, glasses of wine between friends and Fado. And it’s still there. But this identity joined many others identities and today, rising from the Mall of Mouraria, there is Cape Verdean music, indian flavors, Brazilian rhythms, Pakistani flavors, Mozambican dishes and Asian mills.

It had become a very rundown neighborhood until major renovations starting in 2009 put it back on the map. It now attracts for its mini-'Chinatown,' for the kiosks on Martim Moniz Square serving foods from all over the world, and for the cleaned-up Intendente Square which hides one of the most beautiful tiled façades in the city.

Another hidden treasure is the interior of the forms “Colégio dos Meninos orfãos” orphanage on “Rua da Mouraria”, now divided into several public services but with a staircase covered with tile panels from the 1700s depicting passages from the old and new testaments.

Also worth a look is the curious medieval house (one of the oldest in Lisbon) on Largo da Achada behind the Church of St. Christopher, with gothic doors and windows.

The check-in and check-out can be flexible!

Hope you enjoy!

Olarias House-Cozy

  • 4 of 5

The house itself was very clean and cozy and just as the pictures show. We were very comfortable for our 10 day stay in Lisbon. Gustavo was great with suggestions for food/roof top bars etc. Some missed communication with arrival and departure. Outside the apartment was all under construction. There was no nice area to sit outside and relax as shown in the photos as scaffolding and construction mess was everywhere. I am sure it will be nice again once this construction passes. This whole area of town is under construction Monday through Friday adding a lot of noise and filth. There are other areas of Lisbon undergoing renovations as well... and had we known we would have waited to visit this city once the main construction was done as it was a bit of a nuisance. I would however recommend this flat once the construction was completed!

On recommande !

In English : this place is just perfect for a touristic stay in Lisbon. Its location enables you to be in a very interesting area in the old part of the city and also near the center and near a tube station on a line which takes you quicky to strategic places (station, airport etc...). The flat has everything you can need including a washing-machine, a dishwasher, a microwave and a real oven. The style of the place is great, in very good taste, cosy, and you feel at home immediately when you arrive. It is perfectly clean and you'd think everything is new! It's also very quiet at night and you can enjoy birdsongs and churchbell chimes!... Of course we'll try and come again if we get the chance and we will definitely recommend it to friends....
