Patti and Steve are lifelong residents of Georgetown. Patti's parents operated Clark's Coastal Cottages for 30 years starting in the 1950s. Steve's parents owned and operated Thibodeau's Seafood for over 30 years, currently named Five Islands Lobster Co. Peace, relation and proximity to Maine's best beach and lobster!
We loved the Looney Bin and the Thibodeau's and would definitely go back. The Looney Bin is priced right, has all the amenities, a great deal of charm and personality and a fine view of Harmon's Harbor.
The location was perfect for us in terms of its proximity to Reid State Park (about a 5 minute drive), Five Islands Lobster Co (about a 10 minute drive), a superb inn for a drink or dinner -- the Gray Haven (about 2 minutes), the city of Bath which has a great bookstore and bakery among many other attractions (about 20 minutes).
A most pleasant surprise was the hospitality, accessibility and charm of Patti and Steve Thibodeau. There can be no two people on Earth with deeper roots in Georgetown and the willingness to recount the island's history and many stories with such engagement and humor. We highly recommend the Looney Bin to one and all. Joan and Gary
Relaxed, Restorative, and Fabulous
What a wonderfully peaceful couple of weeks at Reid State Park, Bath, and the Mid-coast region. Patti and Steve were terrific hosts -- friendly, accommodating, and always available.
(If you are really insistent on finding things to complain about, I suppose you could say that the mosquitoes were fast and the wifi was a bit slow.)
Great out of the way little cottage!
Charming, cozy, clean, quiet and private. Patty and Steve are so nice, great hosts and have loads of local knowledge. Beautiful view to enjoy your coffee or wine by! Plenty of bath towels; bring your own beach towels, hairdryer and toiletries.
Thank you so much..it was great to have you here on the harbor! We love sharing this beautiful place! Patti & Steve
The Best View in Maine!
I have been going to the Maine coast for the past 20 years. For many years, I stayed in the same place. I loved it there but it closed a few years ago. I have been looking for somewhere new to go ever since. Patti and Steve's cottage was just the ticket. The cottage is cute inside and out. It was just as it was presented on the site (including the slow internet link) - well-equipped and turnkey ready. But the absolutely best part of the week we spent here was the time we spent just sitting on the front porch. The view was stunning. It was a perfect spot for coffee in the morning, snacks in the afternoon, and pie and ice cream after dinner. We would head out each day to see and tour the surrounding area which is so beautiful but by mid-afternoon we were suffering "porch withdrawal" and would head back to the cottage. Patti and Steve were very friendly and helpful. I can't say enough good things about our stay. I am already looking forward to next summer!
Thank you so much! We enjoyed some “porch therapy” today! Watched an eagle fly by and just enjoyed the quiet.
Relax, Unwind and Enjoy
My family just had the most enjoyable week ever. Enjoyed morning coffee and the quiet surroundings on the screened in porch overlooking the water. The cottage was clean and comfortable with all the necessities for the kitchen. The kids read a book and a half during our stay. You have access to a park pass, so we enjoyed two days at Reid State park beaches. Great boogie boarding. Even close enough to ride to the beach on our bicycles. The location is perfect close enough to Booth Bay Harbor to go on a Whale Watch and visit Burnt Island Lighthouse and Bath to visit Maine Maritime Museum. Amazing place. And Patti and Steve are wonderful hosts. Wish we had found this years ago.
Sanctuary on the Sea
Just spent a week on Patti & Steve's lovely, clean family cottage. The cozy living room, comfortable bedrooms & well- equipped kitchen were just as expected. The screened on porch served as the main lounging place to watch the boats and birds in the harbor. The great blue heron, white egret, gulls and cormorants were excellent company. Frequent walks on the Reid State Park beaches provided "tranquility tonic" that continues to pay dividends each time we remember the sights, sounds and smell of the salt air. If this is what it's like to be in the Loony Bin, then please: lock me up!
