Magical cabin in the Rockies

  • 5 of 5

This little gem is even more perfect than described. It is a handcrafted cabin built with fine attention to every detail. The views and location were truly breathtaking. Rea was very responsive and easy to make arrangements with. I would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a private mountain retreat. I hope to return someday!

Amazing, Inspiring, peaceful & Refreshing

  • 5 of 5

Located in the Colorado mountains at 9000 feet, to get to this cabin you have to leave the main road & take a road through the national forest to get to the property. The cabin set is on 20 acres on top of a mountain. It was very private, peaceful & relaxing. The air is filled with the fresh crisp smells of the mountains & pines. From the Cabin you can see surrounding mountains, pines, aspens, rock formations, & in the distance the continental divide. It was wonderful to watch the different storms come in over the divide. During one storm there was a rainbow below us in the distance that lasted for hours. We would sit in lawn chairs or the lay in the hammock & take in the beauty & sounds of the forest(No city noises). Night viewing of stars was breathtaking. The low humidity & higher altitude plus no city lights make for wonderful star gazing. We set out many a night watching the stars. The early morning hours were great for stargazing & then watching the sun come up & hit the continental divide. Sunset was beautiful with full colors on & around the mountains. We really enjoyed hiking through the forest & enjoying the scenery. The soil was soft & spongy similar to a padded carpet so hiking around was easy on the feet & legs. There is a private lake just a mile away that we were allowed to fish. Really big rainbow trout 16-20" and lots of them. We chose to catch & release the ones we caught. A short drive away there are a couple of towns with a market, restaurants & lots of shopping. The people we met were friendly & helpful. The cabin was awesome. Very comfortable & with most of the modern conveniences. (No dishwasher or washer/dryer) It was all solar powered & had internet & satellite TV service so we could stay connected with home. We even found a spot on the property where our Verizon cell service worked. The Cabin was beautiful. The ladder & trim were crafted from trees taken from the property as well as some of the stonework. One of the owners is a stone mason by trade & has done elaborate stonework both inside & outside the cabin. You can see the craftsmanship & heart that went into building this amazing cabin. They have done an immense amount of work throughout the property. We really can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this oasis in the mountains. Iowa is at an elevation of 955'-0, so there was some adjustment time to the 9000-foot elevation. Drink lots of water to help you adjust. If you want to get away this is the place for you!

Excellent, solid built cabin with genuine wilderness environment, yet every convenience of home.

  • 5 of 5

We have traveled extensively throughout the world and have stayed in many cabins, chalets, and lodges in very remote places. The Mountain Chalet was a delight for us - genuine seclusion with no other house in sight, quiet solitude, perfect for writing and relaxation, and game viewing right in the yard and on the property (elk, deer, fox, bird life and various small game). If you are looking for a secluded mountain cabin, off the grid yet conveniently located so you can travel to a small town for a nice meal in minutes or to the city in less than an hour, this is the place for you. We would highly recommend the Mountain Chalet as a place for deep relaxation and vacation.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The chalet exceeded our expectations. We have stayed at other VRBO homes here in Colorado, and by far our experience at the Mountain View Chalet was the best yet. Everything was very well organized by Rea, from booking to arrival info, to info at the chalet. The chalet was very clean, very well appointed, comfortable, quiet, and in beautiful surroundings. We loved taking the dogs for a walks and returning to the cozy cabin in the snow. It was a wonderful escape and we can't wait to return one day.

Away from it all! Very private!

  • 5 of 5

Rea was very helpful throughout the entire rental process. Staying at the chalet was a great escape from everyday life. There was plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors and marvel at the beautiful surroundings! We got a lot of use out of the horseshoe pit and our dog enjoyed the freedom to roam. The night sky was incredible, full of stars. It was a very peaceful stay, can't wait to get back!
