About Owner / Property Manager

We have renovated both houses ourselves and are incredibly proud of what we have achieved. Duncan is an electrician and so works here now and I look after 3 other holiday cottages for people in the UK as well as our own. We both have families in the UK but we had a strong desire to live in France! We both grew up and lived in the UK but did not meet until the late 90's. Who knows where we would be living if we hadn't met!

Owner / Property Manager purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Owner / Property Manager chose Mayenne

In the beginning we were looking to buy in Spain but decided that would be too far away from our families so chose northern France and are sooo glad we did! It isn't too far from UK so trips to and fro are easier, especially with the fantastic French motorways! We are so lucky to have chosen this village as we have fantastic French neighbours and they couldn't have been more welcoming!

What makes this cottage unique

While staying at our cottage we hope you will feel at home immediately as so many of our guests do. The cottage is in a small village with great access to lots of other villages and activities. Our guests find having us living next door has always been a benefit, being there to help in all sorts of ways - including help with the language! Families have found the village to be a real benefit being able to relax and have some family time playing some of the many board games etc we have available. They also find lots to do with the children that they can do for free!

The cottage is situated in a lovely rural village, friendly locals and a small bar to meet for a chat or buy your daily baguette. Just a short walk away, there is the local Auberge restaurant which we highly recommend. It has recently been renovated and extended beautifully! Fantastic food available both lunch time and evenings. Only 7 mins drive to the nearest beautiful town with supermarket, post office, doctors, dentist and vets. The other direction within 20mins you can be in the bustling town of Mayenne with it's history, sight seeing, lovely walks along the Mayenne river and the weekly market. In the summer especially, there are lots of things going on both day and night for all the family, many of them FREE. Also lots of restaurants and brasseries there too. You are going to love it!

Aptly Named!!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a lovely short break at Cosy Cottage. It has a real charm and with the log burner going certainly lives up to its name. The cottage is very well equipped and the beds extremely comfortable! Jan was very welcoming and we felt at home from the moment we arrived.

Beautiful little cottage with friendly owners

  • 5 of 5

Great stay! Everything you would need and more provided for us by Jan, including wine croissants, milk, butter and cheese on arrival. A gorgeous wood burner in the comfortable lounge thoughtfully decorated as is the rest of the cottage. Situated in the peaceful village square, mobile Pizza dude on a Wednesday evening with a great choice of handmade pizzas and a bar and bread depot just across the road all in a beautiful area only 20 minutes from the Spa town of Bagnoles de L'orne.

lovely well equip cottage

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is well named.. very cosy!! Short of nothing as far as equipment was concerned. It was clean and very well presented. It is in a lovely little village in the heart of Mayenne so handy for visiting the surrounding area. The cottage is on three floors and for us this was a problem as the spiral stairs were steep and narrow and there was only one loo in the hall/lounge area on the middle floor. If stairs are not a problem and you don't have young children we would highly recommend this property and the very friendly owners who live next door.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, it was lovely to meet you both and we are so glad you had a good time despite the weather. It is a shame you found the staircase difficult and we thought you might struggle when we saw you climb it. However it is clearly stated on the description of the house that the cottage is on three levels and that the toilet is on the middle floor. We feel we must stress that the staircase is not a spiral staircase but the original staircase that has a couple of turns on it because of the three floors. We also state that the cottage is not suitable for the infirm due to the stairs. Regarding suitability for young families, we have had a lot of young families stay with no problems, we provide stair gates for these families and many other items. Thank you once again and we hope you enjoy your next trip to France. Kind Regards Jan and Duncan We

Lovely week in a lovely cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful relaxing cottage. Ideal for a romantic week, but also just as nice for families. It was very clean and well maintained. The owners were just next door and were very helpful on advice for where to visit in the area. There was so much to do in the surrounding area, from beaches at lakes, to Roman ruins. Would love to go back at some point!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was lovely meeting you all. Maybe you could come and see us for that romantic break, just the two of you one day? It is difficult to have a romantic break with two young children. We are glad the children were contented with their stay too. Kind Regards Jan and Duncan
