Lovely apartment in central El Puerto de Santa Maria

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a week at this lovely apartment with courtyard garden and parking. It has everything you need and more. Spotlessly clean and very nicely decorated. Alfonso could not have been more welcoming, or helpful, but then was careful to give us our privacy. Interesting area with easy access to Cadiz, Jerez, Sanlucar, Seville. All accessible by public transport.

Lovely hosts, charming apartment

  • 5 of 5

This is a very special place. If you're looking to immerse yourself in the local life rather than a sterile hotel environment then this could be right up your street. Cadiz city is only a short 30 minutes away from Puerto de Santa Maria via a very pleasurable trip on the public ferry/catamaran.There are numerous restaurants and bars 5 minutes away down by the riverside or if you prefer, a very good supermarket a couple of blocks away. Away from the hub, tiny tapas bars are around every corner The apartment itself is very comfortable and cosy and we found eating "at home" very convenient. There is a charming internal courtyard filled with plants which is for the sole use of the apartment. (You also get to feed the fish every day!). The best element by far though is Alfonso and his wonderful family who rent out the apartment and live upstairs (but you won't see them unless you want to). They are incredibly warm, welcoming, helpful and reassuring. We felt like family guests. We would sincerely recommend this apartment.

A little piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

I had a most enjoyable stay at the Bodega apartment and Alfonso couldn't have been more helpful. The day I arrived by train I was picked up at the station which was a real treat. The same day it was unusually wet, so much so that you couldn't step out at all. So Alfonso insisted I joined himself and his two sons for lunch which I did appreciate as I hadn't a bite in my place. The living- room-cum-kitchen was a good size but still very cozy. The temperature was perfect so one didn't need the air con. or heating. The bedroom was very restful and the bed so comfortable. The shower was a decent size and the towels fluffy. The apartment had a warm atmosphere & I could spend hours playing the wonderful collection of classical CDs. There was an interesting supply of teas and coffees, some of which I tried. I also tried some liqueurs which Alfonso said were home- made by his own fair hands? they tasted great anyway. After the downpour on arrival day we had sunshine all day every day. The Bodega was right in the centre of the old town so couldn't have been better for popping home for a wee rest after hours of walking. I made it to the beach and found a shady spot under some palm trees as it was too hot for me so I read for an hour before braving it into the Atlantic. I'm home now at my own Atlantic Coast in Galway except here it's a lot rougher and tomorrow I head for North-West Donegal where we are lucky enough to have another home. Thank you so, so much Alfonso for giving me a hand with my luggage to the catamaran...you are every inch a gentleman. Saludos Dymphna

Owner's Response: Gracias Dympha por tus magníficos comentarios. Desde tu llegada me has inspirado tranquilidad, paz y sosiego. Saludos. Alfonso.

Perfectly placed studio with the kindest host

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a fantastic stay in this very well equipped, spotlessly clean, tidy and perfectly positioned studio. The addition of parking and a flower filled patio were very welcome - though it is a tight squeeze to get the car in! Take Alfonso's advice and reverse it ;-)

We were greeted by Alfonso when we arrived and shown around, but after that our privacy was well respected. Everything has been thought of in the studio, with many kind and thoughtful touches. Alfonso responded promptly to our communication and, although he only speaks Spanish, with Google Translate and some basic Spanish we got on very well - he truly is a lovely guy.

El Puerto itself is fantastic - full of lots of interesting streets, great restaurants and bars. We took in tour of the Osborne Winery (very close by), enjoyed tapas at Las 7 Esquinas (also close by - wished we'd known you can do a tour there too), El Beti bar, La Bodeguilla de Bar Jamon and a great meal in a magical setting at El Arriate and enjoyed many late night strolls throughout the town. It's very easy to get to other places of interest in the area from El Puerto- we took the ferry to Cadiz, drove to Jerez and enjoyed trips out to the local beach as well as a couple a little further afield. You really do feel that you're living like a local in this town, and because it has a lot of Spanish holidaymakers staying there, it's always lively and full of energy.

So peaceful we wanted to stay longer.

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully converted property on ground floor of old building in historic centre of El Puerto. Restaurants, supermarkets, shops, bars and attractions all within easy reach and a nice walk to beaches, and transport links too.

Particularly liked tasteful decoration and numerous little personal touches. Wonderful enclosed garden with fruit trees and bushes just made for sitting out in.

This property definitely has the wow factor!

Highly recommended. Owners provided great customer service and even picked us up and dropped us at train station.

Only very slight quibble and that's easily rectified. Very complicated microwave oven without handbook. Make sure you ask how to use it before owner leaves.

Absolutely nothing else I could complain about. A wonderful base for exploring Cadiz (train, bus or ferry), Jerez (only 1 stop on the train) and surrounds.

We visited in November and weather was excellent too.

Alfonso y familia.

Perfect in every way - Recomendado!!!

  • 5 of 5

I am so pleased we found this lovely studio apartment - in a historic building in the old town - just what we were looking for for a 5 night stay. What made it even more special was the warmth of the welcome we received from the owners Alfonso and Eva, and the pleasure of meeting their two young sons Alfonso and Mario who had no inhibitions in chatting to us in their best English!

The studio itself is in a converted bodega on the ground floor leading onto a peaceful and secluded patio full of plants and flowers. The bodega was converted last summer and every thing is fresh and new with a lovely modern bathroom , complete with toiletries, and a very comfortable bed. The kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly want and more.

The location meant that everything was within easy reach on foot, restaurants, sites of interest, the catamaran to Cadiz and the Osborne Bodega. Although we had arrived by train there is parking available.

We had a wonderful stay here thanks to all the above but especially thanks to Alfonso who showed us round his lovely house and was kindness itself.

Muchissimas Gracias!!!

Mario, Alfonsito, Eva y Alfonso.
