About Katie Zook Hegge
Matt grew up in Whitehall, Wisconsin, and went to school in La Crosse, before moving to Minneapolis for 25 years. Katie was born and raised in the Denver, Colorado, area and moved to Minneapolis in '98. They moved to Eau Claire in 2014 for a tech start-up gig and found this beautiful place that felt like the chance of a lifetime.
Katie Zook Hegge purchased this House in 2014
Why Katie Zook Hegge chose Eau Claire
We both had an affinity for the house and the surrounding beauty. It's quiet and calming energy is serene and inviting. The house was built by a florist and was owned by the same family for 111 years and still has some of their furniture and photos that were left behind.
What makes this House unique
Breezes on the back porch, bird watching during breakfast, children laughing in the park, the community gardens next door, the skate rink in the winter, walk and bike paths nearby, all allow you to feel close to nature. We've had deer, turkey, raccoons, and rabbits in the yard, and coyotes and owls in the area (on the rare occasion). You frequently see eagles soaring above the river, and sometimes perched in nearby trees. We didn't learn about these things until after we lived there. When we chose the house, we hadn't looked at a single other place. It just felt that it was meant to be.

Clean & Beautiful Home!
My wife couldn't stop commenting how beautiful and well kept the house was! So much charm and in great condition. All of our guests commented about how well it was decorated and how comfortable the beds were. We had a great time and would highly recommend anyone stay there if you are in the Eau Claire area! Thank you for a great weekend!
The Demmler House is Eau Claire's Downton Abbey
The Demmler property exceeded my expectations in every way. The stenciling and furniture creates a true renaissance feeling. The leaded glass windows throughout the home create a prism color show in the morning and end of afternoon. The neighborhood is very quiet, thus can be a productive environment if one needs to work. The complete screened in back porch is also a wonderful space to enjoy. Kitchen is appointed with modern appliances. Also, stocked with antique china plates. I cooked all meals in - did not want to leave the home. All the attention to details throughout the home projects the love of the property from the owners. I left my 3 night stay rejuvenated and recharged. I really appreciated that there were no clocks on the wall - the last thing I wanted to be reminded of was the time. The German immigrant that created the home had architect ties and this is shown in the ideal floor plan and expansiveness of the home. To stay there will be to enjoy and be enchanted.
I was finally able to access your lovely review! Thank you so much! I don’t know why it took so long for Vrbo to let me see it but I am thoroughly pleased and so grateful for your kind words. We would be happy to have you back again the next time you’re in the area.
So Charming and Comfortable
It is a trip back to the 1800’s with every comfort of today. The original charm and design and has been preserved while having every comfort of today. Great kitchen, new and luxurious bathrooms, perfectly comfortable bed. Along with great grounds and location. Katie was great. We want to come back for longer next time.
Thank you, Ryan! We hope to have you back!
Really Really Nice Place
Katie was great and accommodated our every need.
This was the easiest rental we have ever done on VBRO.
Location was perfect with everything in downtown Eau Claire being walk-able.
House was very clean and well kept, usually old victorian homes are a little dicey but the house was large and had very comfortable beads. Rear screen porch was perfect for relaxing in the evening.
We will rent again when we return to Eau Claire.
Thanks so much for the great review, Steve!
Lovely Eau Claire
Great home in a pretty garden setting. Guest amenities were excellent, overall very pleasant experience. Loved the screened porch.
Thank you so much for the great review, Donna!
