Why Choose Villa Lumia?: Featured as 'Retreat of the Week' in an Irish national paper and with excellent feedback from our guests you too will be happy you chose Villa Lumia!
Our representative will meet you in Catania and help you get off to the right start. Your comprehensive Holiday Info-Pack has all you need to know - from restaurants to day trips. Our Sicilian chef would love to come-over and cook for you, and David will happily guide you on an outing to Mount Etna's volcano, vineyards, and restaurants.
Close to the beautiful Taormina, the crystal-clear waters of the Aeolian islands, Mount Etna and vineyards - all less than an hour away - there's plenty to do and all within easy reach…
Accomodation Highlights & Kids!: The large private pool, six large air-conditioned bedrooms sleeping up-to thirteen, indoor traditional-style bar and extensive living areas are all finished with great Italian style - marble and terracotta abound. Quaint garden areas are set in palm and citrus trees with outside kitchen, real wooden pizza oven and bbq areas. Satellite TV, American-style fridge with ice maker... - you'll want to stay on!
We have especially planned for small children and babies, particularly with regard to safety. The pool has access from two points in the garden. Both access points have gates to keep young children outside of the pool area. Internally there are child gates, toys, a high-chair and two travel cots.
I am from Ireland but lived in Italy for many years and it's a 2nd home to me.
Niall purchased this villa in 2001
We built the villa for our own use, and wanted a nice area that wasn't touristy, had a quiet family atmosphere and was close to the beach. The villa is in a gated residence of approx 30 detached villas that was built on an old lemon and olive orchard, the area is very safe and pleasant.
Externally the grounds include a large pool (12m x 6m), a pizza oven and barbeque area, and there are many trees (including lemon and orange), plants and fragrant climbers such as jasmine. The house itself has been tastefully designed with venetian marble, solid cherry kitchen, designer bathrooms. Each bedroom has independent air-conditioning and this is important as Sicily can be hot in the summer. Balconies around the house (not to mention the pool!) ensure there is always a cool place to relax for those who dont wish to spend al day in the soon. The house also has mosquito nets on all windows.
We had a great break! David met us at the airport and nicely eased us into holiday mode! Your house is beautiful. The supplies and wine were much appreciated. We hadn't arrived 5 mins when we were into the pool - we made great use of it.
It was a very relaxing holiday… We did all the suggested activities on your Holiday Info-Pack which were great to have.
2. Just back from the holidays - we had a brilliant time. Your villa is fabulous, there is no other word for it. We loved everything about it. We especially loved all the space inside which was very welcome with a roaming toddler.
The villa is very spacious. We were three families totaling 11 people. There was plenty of room for all of us. The pool was amazing and the kids would have spent the entire two weeks in it if they could have. The kitchen was open to the dining area which was nice for entertaining. A couple issues came up the first couple days but they were resolved very quickly.
There is a clothes washer but no dryer. Only a drying rack is in the home.
There is a nice market, Eurospin, about an eight minute drive from the home.
We rented a van and a small car. The van was difficult to drive on the narrow and small roads. Also, pack some water shoes since the beach is rocky but very beautiful. The views of the ocean and mountains in the area are amazing.
Overall, the home was beautiful and we had an amazing family vacation.
This is an excellent villa that comfortably accommodated our family of 10 people - in fact, one double bedroom with 2 single beds was unoccupied. (our party consisted of a 64-year old grandparent, six other adults and three children from 4-10). The standard of the rooms and facilities is superb, especially the large kitchen-dining area, the barbecue-patio area and, of course, the big pool. We were well looked after by the owner's local representative on arrival, and by the villa manageress throughout - both were charming, friendly people. We also indulged ourselves with the chef one evening, and he too came up trumps.
The only downside is that the locality does not quite match up to the property. At the end of May, some local restaurants were still closed (until 1 June) and we were all thankful for the well-stocked EuroSpar supermarket about 8-10 minutes drive away in Villafranca: other nearer and smaller shops were of limited use. And anyone going to Sicily has to expect a less than relaxing time on the roads - the standard of driving is appalling and most villages (never designed to cope with the automobile) have been ruined by undisciplined parking. As has Messina. That said, we were able to visit Mount Etna, Savoca, Taormina and the Aeolian Islands (from Milazzo) quite easily, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We planned it so that we did our trips on alternate days to recover from the traffic!
In short, Villa Lumia gets full marks. If Sicily is serious about tourism, it has to seriously get its act together.
Merci encore à Niall on va y retourner
Rodia is located on the north east coast of Sicily, 15km from Messina city and 25km from Milazzo. It is 90 minutes from Catania airport, and just 40 minutes from Taormina and Mount Etna. Rodia is a fishing village that comprises three beachfront restaurants, a pharmacy and two small shops. Villafranca at a distance of 3km has a population in excess of 1,000 and has numerous shops, supermarkets, and pizzeria/restaurants. The villa is within 2km of the motorway and hence access to airports, Messina and Milazzo is very good. For CAR HIRE from Catania contact the owners for website details.
