Delightful Visit England 4**** rated cottage 10 mins walk to Padstow harbour

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

Individually designed cottage with south facing garden and estuary view

Spindrift enjoys a secluded setting towards the end of a cul de sac with open countryside views from the garden and double bedroom and is 10 mins walk from Padstow harbour.

Spindrift is a two bedroom 'cottage' which we completely overhauled in 2008. Decorated with a seaside feel and with all mod cons, this is an ideal getaway cottage for a long weekend or family holiday. Open plan living and well equipped with a 4*** Visit England rating, you can be assured that a very good standard is maintained. The ground floor living area opens to the south facing garden with a decked terrace and lower area. The views are to open countryside with estuary views from the double bedroom.

Parking facility adjacent to the cottage in a car park designated for this cluster of cottages and/or in front of our garage a few steps away.

Facilities include dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge, freezer, DVD player, sound system for use with phone, laptop ipod or other device. Hair dryer. Linen and towels, final cleaning.

NB INTERNET ACCESS IS VIA LOCAL BT HOTSPOT (free of charge for BT broadband customers or you can sign up and pay as you go).

The front door opens into an open plan living room with designated seating (large leather sofa with chaise lounge and armchair) and dining area (table with seating for 6) and a fully fitted built in quality kitchen with integrated dishwasher and washer/dryer. Gas hob, extractor hood, electric oven, microwave. Cafetiere, kettle, toaster, liquidiser, plentiful supply of crockery, cutlery and glasses.

The French doors from the living area open onto a sun trap south facing decked terrace with a lower area with washing line and BBQ. Open views of the stunning countryside and a peaceful atmosphere make this a most relaxing area to enjoy with sun loungers and table and chairs.

Upstairs are two bedrooms: A double bedroom, south facing, with two windows and views of countryside and the estuary where you can enjoy beautiful sunrise views. This bedroom is equipped with a built in wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables. A hair dryer is provided.

Twin bedroom: with 2 single beds, a built in wardrobe, shelving and storage and bedside cabinet. Window with view to trees at the front of the house.

Also upstairs is a well equipped shower room with shower cubicle, basin unit with cupboard and WC. additional storage shelving provided.

10 mins walk into Padstow from the cottage (various routes) and you can approach via the far end of the harbour, passing all the interesting sites on route with the sea on your right. There will be plenty to explore in the town and if you feel like visiting some of the many beautiful beaches just carry on through the town up to the monument where you will get a fantastic view of the beaches on your right hand side. Restaurants are aplenty and it is wise to book in advance. There are some very good gastro pubs which generally don't need to be booked. Most shops and pubs are dog friendly as are many of the beaches. If you enjoy surfing there is plenty of opportunity to pursue this sport and with the ferry crossing to Rock just across the water you can enjoy the facilities of its golf club and course. There are many interesting shops and galleries to visit in Padstow and it is a pleasure just to stroll around and enjoy the harbour views.

We do accept dogs and there is an additional charge of £25 per week per dog.

About Sheila Yelland

I have been involved with property for as long as I can remember and when we first visited Begur in we thought it a wonderful region and decided to buy a holiday home, Casa Alfora.

We rented it out through a local agent the first year (2001). After that I decided to rent it out myself and since then we have built two more houses and purchased another in Begur all of which are on this site. Gradually I built up a business and we now have our own website featuring property in Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal.

Poros Island, Greece is a favourite destination of ours where we have a house overlooking the harbour and on the mainland, both with amazing views and both of which are featured on this website.

Now we have added our lovely Padstow cottage to this site. We hope you like it!

Sheila Yelland purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Sheila Yelland chose Padstow

We love Padstow. There is such an air of relaxation and cheer away from the rush of our normal busy lives. The pace is slow and good....The beaches are beautiful and the air is clean. We like eating out in the many and varied restaurants and gastro pubs; just wandering around Padstow and its harbour is a delight. We wanted a house where we could walk into Padstow and this takes just 10 minutes, and a further few minutes to the amazing beaches with wonderful views. There are many coastal and inland walks which we greatly enjoy. Long weekend or or longer family holiday; both as enjoyable as each other. We are sure you won't be disappointed if you stay in our 'cottage' as we have tried to make it as special as possible taking great care to maintain it well with good local management.

What makes this cottage unique

Spindrift is easy to run and very comfortable and cosy. The decked terrace is south facing; a real sun trap and the views are most relaxing with no houses in front of us. From the double bedroom you have estuary views of wonderful sunsets and sunrises. We totally transformed the house when we bought it in 2008 and turned it from a 3 to a 2 bedroom house to create more upstairs space and made the downstairs open plan. The decor is similar to a house we have on the Greek island of Poros and helps us feel close to the sea and beaches!

We have included all mod cons in the house and although it is very small compared to our main home we feel very at home in Spindrift. Although we have been renting out Spindrift for a number of years, we decided this year to advertise Spindrift on Owners Direct rather than rent through a local agency. We have very good local management to deal with any queries during your stay and look forward to hearing from you.

Very clean, good beds, great location, quiet and peaceful, lovely views

  • 4 of 5

Good location with excellent garden and views, great for dogs. The cooker needs to be renewed and television is too small for a family room

Excellent location

  • 4 of 5

What a delightful find Spindrift was. On arrival we parked our large 8 seater with ease. The cottage had everything we needed. Maybe an inside airer to dry clothes on a rainy day would be a added extra.

Property was very clean & beatifully presented. We took our dog & it's perfect if you are considering that.

Location is ideal a short walk into Padstow Harbor & the beaches. Tesco also within walking distance. So much to do & explore. We had a fantastic time. Only gripe was double bed was on the small size but then I am 6 foot so maybe that's just me.

We will return.

Owner's Response: Dear Tanya Thank you very much for your review and so glad you enjoyed your stay at Spindrift. With reference to a clothes airer, we can easily provide this so thanks for the suggestion. There is however a clothes dryer which is incorporated with the washing machine. We look forward to your return to Spindrift! Best wishes Sheila Yelland

Key attractions include the National Lobster Hatchery, The Camel Trail and Prideaux Place.

Surfing-North Cornwall has several good surfing beaches, facing in different directions, to give plenty of opportunity for surfing.

Eating out-Whatever your favourite food, the Padstow area offers an exciting choice of places to eat, at any time of the year. Intimate and family restaurants, cafes and bistros rub shoulders with vibrant tapas bars, cosy tearooms and the warmth of welcoming pubs. Relax and dine alfresco at the harbour side cafes offering regional and international cuisine or enjoy delicious home made pasties and traditional fish and chips. Soak up the hustle and bustle of harbour life, then dine on locally caught fish, lobster, crab and seafood, for which Padstow is so well known - accompanied by a wide variety of vegetables and produce grown nearby. Padstow's culinary reputation is renowned.

To avoid disappointment check out a selection of restaurants that can be booked ahead of time.

Boat Trips-A variety of boat trips available from Padstow Harbour. With the exception of the Jubilee Queen and speed boats all need to be booked in advance. There are 4 mackerel fishing boats operating from Padstow. You can book them from Padstow Angling Centre.

Crabbing-cheap and very entertaining way to spend the afternoon, regardless of your age. Crab lines and bait can be bought from many of the shops around the harbour. The inner harbour is the best place to catch them. Drop a baited line into the water and wait for the baby crabs to bite. Put them in a bucket of sea water then put them back into the harbour when you're done. Padstow is a working harbour and you are not advised to crab from any of the slipways or steps that have boats working from them e.g. the ferry slip.

Churches-Padstow's is the second largest in Cornwall and has recently been restored. St Enodoc, once buried in the sand, is unique and has stunning views across the estuary.

Cycling-Eighteen miles of the disused Padstow to Waterloo railway line have been turned into a cycle track and walkway. Known as The Camel Trail, after the River Camel that it follows, the Trail is very popular with visitors, walkers and bird watchers alike. You can hire bikes on the harbour.

Fishing-Sea angling from the cliffs and from boats. You need to get a fishing permit from either Padstow Angling Centre or Padstow Harbour office before you can fish. Although a free permit, it is a requirement.

Fun Parks-The nearest fun park to Padstow is Crealy, between Padstow, Wadebridge and Newquay.
