About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4 Baths, (Sleeps 14-18)

Vacationing by the lake is the consummate Door County experience. The waves will lull you to sleep and the ever-changing mood of the lake will become your favorite memory. Kite and sail surfers practice in our bay because of the calm conditions. All types of pleasure and fishing boats arrive and ore ships hug the shore as they pass.

The clean lines of the Empire style interior are accented by our collection of one-of-a-kind antiques from around the world. Each area has an access to the outside by way of a porch or balcony. Each room is cleverly designed to have a lake view.

The queen bedrooms are off the porch and deck on the main floor and upstairs in the whirlpool area. The standard bedrooms are off the garage and upstairs in the Carousel area. 3 bathrooms are attached to bedrooms; one in the upstairs Carousel area is not.

You are ten minutes away from thick and lively shopping traffic on the bay side. Our lake side is known as the quiet nature sanctuary of unique wild plants and animals. The beauty and calm has drawn the most talented actors and artists to this area since the early 1900's.

Children are delighted to play in the sand at the shallow water's edge, walk to the Yum Yum Tree for ice cream, rearrange the doll house, ride the wild carousel rabbit, play the unique folk toys, or other games. The kids collection of DVDs can be viewed as the prepare for bed. Ask for directions to The Farm where even older children like to purchase food for the hungry baby barnyard animals.

Great Family Gathering Experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at Cedar Beach House! Family from Florida, Michigan and Wisconsin were there; three were unable to join us and two more were there but not overnight. In fact the most who slept overnight was only 12. The weather was variable, but when it was pouring, there were plenty of interesting items to look at in addition to the games and books we brought. We used one Weber grill one evening and the fire pit two evenings. Everyone was very pleased with the experience at Cedar Beach House. Chives is essentially across the street, and Florian's a very short walk. We didn't take advantage of the slightly longer walk to Harbor Fish Market and Grill because we enjoyed eating on site. Porches upstairs and down!

Do not rent this property

  • 1 of 5

This property is adjacent to a gas station. During our rental, the upper balcony was being renovated. The balusters were almost completely gone, crudely, often only partly ripped away, often leaving shredded stubs of wood and bent old nails exposed. This was a safety hazard for all who stayed in the house, in particular the children; I'm sure this was in violation of all relevant safety codes. It was also incredibly unpleasant to look at. (It is on the lakeside of the house.) The rear of the house looked like it hadn't been painted or washed for years and is filthy. The interior is crowed and very dated. This is the worst house I have rented through HomeAway/VRBO, and I've rented a couple of dozen over the years.

Owner's Response: The gas station to the South provides breakfast and lunch as well as groceries since there is no other store in Baileys Harbor. It is very convenient and there is a large band of Cedar trees between our house and the station. The rain delayed the construction before the high season started which when finished will have aluminum spindles and will be state of the art. The one upper balcony under construction has a locked door to the outside so there is no danger to kids. That upper deck was power washed leaving some dirt on the lower wall. How this review is relevant for future renters, who will not experience this situation doesn't seem pertinent. We will have a new picture on our website as soon as the construction is finished.

letdown

  • 2 of 5

Quaint old home. Too cluttered with worn out furnitures and appliances. Beds were beyond their usefulness and very old. Laundry was not done and the beds were not made. Garbage not picked up and sat at the curb for most of our stay.

Spacious yard overlooking the water was beautiful and the downtown location was convenient.k

Owner's Response: We constantly update our home. Since July, we have replaced the refrigerator with a top of the line LG stainless, an L G stainless stove and microwave. Furniture has been replaced and with large groups for a week, people need chairs and tables. The previous renters were late leaving and so the home was not ready. We have changed times for entry and exit. The garbage is no longer picked up at the curb but from the North side of the garage. We have been in business for 22 years and have had very few complaints and we have acted on each one.

June 17th 2016 Zak and Guests

  • 1 of 5

Arrived today to find the joint wide open and unclean. Cleaning crew (two person team) arrived right behind us and advised they were just dispatched a half hour ago. We have a 5 pm Wedding Rehearsal to change and get ready for, it's currently 4 pm. The crew is still cleaning. Texts and voicemail to Mary are yet to be returned, it's been 2.5 hours since I called. I text on the way up around noon as a reminder and to confirm the address.

Not very happy for our maiden voyage. I'll follow up with another review if the owner contacts us with a resolution. Headed to a friend's beautiful rented house close by so we can scramble to get ready for the rehearsal dinner for tomorrow's wedding.

Dissatisfied and frustrated.

Owner's Response: We do apologize for the delayed response of our house cleaning team. They are usually very reliable and follow the list of arrivals and departures that we give them. After June 15, we book by the week if we can and this client asked to stay just 3 nights. We agreed, but it probably was why our house cleaner was confused.

Great House, Perfect Location

  • 4 of 5

We had a family reunion with 14 guests ranging from 2 to 82 years old. The house sits right on the water and the enclosed back porch is the perfect spot to enjoy the water. Bailey's Harbor is less populated than Sisters Bay or Fish Creek and was the perfect spot....less traffic, less congestion. Sisters Bay and Fish creek are only 15 minutes away so we were easily able to enjoy the shopping and sights and then return to the quiet side of town. House is spacious. Giving 4 instead of 5 stars because the one bedroom off the garage is really small. No closet or drawers for your belongings. We didn't feel right putting anyone in that room but others may not have any problems with it. Obviously the owners can't change that so it is not a reflection on them. Ray and Mary are great hosts and very responsive.

Cedar Beach Inn

  • 5 of 5

Hi Mary,

We all enjoyed our stay from 2 - 6 October at your house in Baileys Harbor. The house was lovely and spacious and attractively decorated and everything worked out perfectly. We all thought the location was perfect and it is very convenient to the other side of the Door peninsula. Being on the water was a great feature. We ate at Chives and Harbor Fish Market & Grille which you had recommended and they were excellent. We also ate at Al Johnsons Swedish Restaurant in Sister Bay with the goats on the roof (very interesting). We also tasted beer at Door County Brewing just up the road from your house and had lunch at the Cornerstone Pub. We also visited many art galleries and purchased an original oil from Ed Fenendael at his Windmill Farm studio in Baileys Harbor. All in all a great vacation.

Thank you
