****** House Rules******

Dear Prospective Guest,

There aren’t really too many house rules. Basically, come in and make yourself at home. There’s no such thing as a check-in time that’s too late, so no worries there. Let me know if you’d like an earlier check-in time than 5PM or later check-out time than 10AM. It can usually be arranged, depending on other bookings. Worst case scenario, we can store your luggage and have our housekeeper make you a cup of tea and you can lounge down in the gazebo by the river while we are preparing the cabin.

Our only request is please do not invite visitors, the cabin and all the amenities we provide are only for our registered guests.

Please do not strip the sheets off the bed we prefer to do this ourselves, just put the beds back the way you found them with bedding left flat on top of the beds. If towels are damp please hang them over the towel rack to air dry. Please wipe down kitchen counter tops, load and start the dishwasher(s) if you are unsure where kitchen inventory belongs please leave on the counter. If grill has been used, please brush grill down and wipe off side trays. Confirm Home Theater Room Projector System has been turned off per instructions, turn lights and ceiling fans off, check to make sure all doors are locked and bag all trash from kitchen and bathrooms and just toss your trash in the bin on the side of the driveway on your way out.

After you book and well before your arrival date, you’ll receive an email from us explaining how to get to the cabin, where to park, and all sorts of good information about things to do in and around this wonderful town. When you arrive, there will be tourist brochures and welcome letter with more information, like WiFi access code and restaurant recommendations.

We want you to thoroughly enjoy our cabin and your time in Blue Ridge. We’ll do everything we can to make that happen. It’s hoped you’ll book with us over and over again. We truly want you to enjoy the accommodations. We'll do everything I can to make your stay wonderful.

Sincerely,

Lisa & Richard - your hosts

About Lisa Strauss - River Ridge Lodge

Our story begins with reading a lovely article about the charming town of Blue Ridge. We live on the west coast and our youngest son was living in Florida so we thought the location would be ideal for finding a cabin for family gatherings. I can recall the drive up from Atlanta being so beautiful even in the winter. The moment we saw the cabin we felt drawn to the beautiful tranquil setting and could not resist the magnificent sounds of the meandering river. The cabin was under construction at the time so we were able to make changes to the layout and design of the kitchen. Once completed we found it to be even better than expected but unfortunately did not spend the time with family as originally intended. Each passing year we would say to ourselves we need to spend more time with family, but our careers seemed to always take priority. Until one tragic day our lives would be forever changed by a phone call. Our precious son had suddenly passed away. We would give anything to take those years back and regret every day that we put our careers ahead of spending time with family. I can still hear the excitement in our sons voice about planning a spring trip to the cabin that never would come to pass.

Lisa Strauss - River Ridge Lodge purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Lisa Strauss - River Ridge Lodge chose North Georgia Mountains

Blue Ridge is a very special place business with our contractor was for the most part done with a handshake and I can say for a fact that Southern Hospitality is alive and well. I will always have fond memories of our neighbors welcome baskets. The best feature by far is the location we are in the heart of the Aska Adventure area on the upper Toccoa River. This location has the best trout fishing. Everyone loves the large gazebo with fireplace at the rivers edge. This is a genuine log home that was crafted with real western cedar logs which gives you a totally different feel. River Ridge Lodge stays much cooler in the summer and is really cozy and comfortable in the winter because the logs hold in most of the heat. The home theater room is a real plus. The curved benches around a large round dining table with a lazy susan in the center makes it ideal for sharing a meal with family and friends.

What makes this cabin unique

Riverfront, Riverfront, trout fishing from our riverbank and listen to the sounds of the river to lull you to sleep at night. Our gazebo with wood burning fireplace is a huge hit and everyone loves our Home Theater room!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at the lodge exceeded our expectations! Communication with Lisa leading up to the stay was easy and informative. The actual lodge website has tons of helpful info about your stay as well as info about things to see and do in the area. The house itself has plenty to offer if you are looking for a place to relax and just enjoy some quiet time. We loved having the river right there on the property. Easy to get in and fish right from the house. We also enjoyed the fireplace by the water as well as the movie room. The kitchen was superb if you enjoy cooking. For us vacation is about spending quality time together and we enjoy doing that over meals. It was nice to be away from home but have everything we needed right in the house. A quick trip to the local grocery store for the food and we were all set for the week. The house is very well maintained and it is set in a very private peaceful setting. We felt like we were in our own world for the week. Lisa has done a great job decorating the home as well as providing more than necessary in the house to make you feel at home. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone looking in the Blue Ridge area. We would LOVE to bring our whole family and come back for another visit. Thank you SO much for making our first experience in Blue Ridge and with airbnb a success.

Amazing property in the N Ga Mountains

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a last minute spot to host friends for a surprise 40th birthday getaway weekend and found River Ridge Lodge. At first I was a little perplexed by the rate structures being based upon how many people vs just renting the house, but this turned out to be a significant benefit. While there were just 4 of us, so 2 bedrooms, we had access to all the phenomenal non-bedrooms in this beautiful 5000 sq ft home. From the park like outdoor setting of the back yard to the fantastic media room to watch the World Series and college football games we all had great time. The house and property are amazingly quiet and if you have forgotten how dark it can really get at night just get away to the mountains and you will be quickly reminded. The owner's were super easy to work with and have thought of everything with this house. From the brand new outdoor covered seating area, to the natural grass grill and smoker, to the kitchen that has every utensil you can ever imagine. This is what a mountain getaway is all about. We will not hesitate on where to look first when we are looking for our next weekend in the mountains. River Ridge Lodge was just fantastic.

Truley Spectacular

Contrary to other reviews the owners are a breeze to work with. As for the lodge, well mere words can't describe it. It is by far the cleanest and best maintained cabin we have ever stayed in. We rented it for a family reunion and there was room for all. We were pleasantly pleased with all of the amenities provided at no charge. Yes, the rules are strict, but I can understand why after stepping foot in the Lodge. Leave it as you found it and you will have no problems as we did. I would highly recommend this Lodge due it being on the river and it's close proximity to so many things to do, if you are a outdoors person. One of the best things is you can rent one bedroom or five depending on your needs. We will definitely return!!!!

Great cabin, extremely challenging/difficult owner

  • 2 of 5

When you arrive the only words are wow, wow, and wow. Extremely well appointed, beautiful views, very large and very comfortable.

Unfortunately the single most difficult owners I have ever worked with on VRBO. We have rented cabins, vacation homes, ski lodge, etc. We have rented 6 - 8 cabins in Blue Ridge alone. Beginning with check in at 5 PM! Every other VRBO property I have rented has been a 3 PM C/I. The check out time is 10 AM! (They do offer a per HR. Early/Late arrival/Departure) I asked if we could leave at 11 AM a week before we were supposed to check out and i was told that wasn't enough notice. (My mother has limited mobility) So mom left Monday night so she wouldn't risk making us late checking out.

A different cabin owner I rented from 2 years ago told me "You can check out at 3 since we don't have another renter for 3 more days, enjoy!

If you put your garbage in the wrong trash can (each trash can is marked by day and you are allocated 1 per day) you are charged a ridiculous fee, i mean ridiculous!!! You are instructed to leave the Kitchen as you find it! WHAT!!! I paid a MONSTER CLEANING FEE! 3 times what I have paid elsewhere and I have to wash the dishes and put them away before I leave otherwise I risk a per hour cleaning fee extra! INSANE! Their response is -- this is our home and we want it to be dealt with properly. The very high cleaning fee, plus security deposit plus application fee! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Their web site says they supply starter firewood, we couldn't find any for the outside gazebo.

Oh and don't leave a window or door unlocked when you leave or you loose YOUR ENTIRE Security deposit. (although I found 1 window unlocked upon arrival)

I feel like sending them a bill for the 18 bugs my wife killed and threw away.

My son brought a friend. they are both 18. One boy is 6' 2" 225 lbs. Well they didn't want to sleep together, so I asked -- can we use one of the sofa beds? (This was on Tuesday 2 days before we were supposed to check in.) I was told no way. It wasn't reserved, the property manager enough time to prepare the sofa bed, plus we aren't allowed more than 10 ppl in the cabin. (They did allow us 11 since one was a 3 month old infant).

SO get this! They LOCK sofa beds! THey refused to let us use the sofa bed.We paid a boatload more than I have ever paid for a cabin, for 5 nights. I felt nickled and dimed at every corner.

Cabin is for sale, perhaps a new owner will be more responsive and attentive to customers

Owner's Response: Bob I truly appreciate you taking the time to write a review. As you mentioned our cabin has a huge WOW factor and it is our rental polices that help keep it that way. We are not difficult owners we just do not work well with guests that agree to our rates and the terms of the rental agreement and then try to take advantage of us by asking for things that were not part of what both parties agreed to. You booked our cabin more than seven months earlier which gave you amble time to make changes to the reservation or cancel if you found our polices too restrictive. Occupancy is a major issue for us as our insurance carrier has placed a rider that limits occupancy to ten people. We fully disclose in our fee schedule that sofa beds are an extra fee and that they are locked. They must be made up in advance because we want our guests to be comfortable so we place an extra pillow topper over the conventional sofa bed mattress. I also explained that when you are working directly with an owner we do not have a staff of people my husband and I are dependent on a couple that oversees our cabin and does the cleaning themselves. Unfortunately when your request came in they had already made up the cabin and had left town for the holiday. As you could see our cabin is not typical cabin it was professionally decorated with fine furnishings throughout. If doors are left open our insurance carrier may not cover the loss which is why we are so sensitive to this issue. If the shoe were on the other foot and this was your home I’m sure you would take issue with guests forgetting to lock up your home.

Incredible!!!

  • 5 of 5

Pictures just can't do justice to the beauty of River Ridge Lodge. We were expecting to find a beautiful home, but instead found a place BEYOND our highest expectations. Like others, we have stayed in many "high-end" places around Blue Ridge....and this one is way above the rest! Every detail has been well thought out... creating an incredible atmosphere (better than staying at the Ritz - but "homey" at the same time). Home was spotless...sheets, towels, etc. all top of the line. Media room was great....just too many amenities to list, but they were all fabulous! The owner was a dream to work with and answered all our questions and John and Ana (the caretakers) are two of the sweetest folks you'll ever meet! Our daughter and son-in-law truly enjoyed the gazebo by the river to renew their wedding vows....fire going in the fireplace, candles, flowers and music...it was beautiful!! And, of course, we dined at our favorite Toccoa Riverside Restaurant!! We will definitely be coming back again soon!!

Great cabin but poor management.

  • 4 of 5

All I can tell you is the owner takes no responsability for the caretakers actions. I followed the check-in instructions exactly as I was told. I left a message with the caretaker that the SPA was dirty upon arrival and to CALL ME regarding ths. The care taker shows up without calling us out of the blue and then tells us the SPA was clean prior to our arrival and that it was dead skin. He cleans the SPA and leaves. I later discovered a $45.00 fee for him coming out to the cabin!!!! The instructions do say a trip fee will be charged if requested but I never requested him to come out. I asked for him to CALL ME BACK!!! We could have addressed the issue over the phone. The Owner stated she has to back up what her caretaker said and wouldn't budge from this. None the less the cabin was great and we had a good time. Just make sure to leave plenty of time for cleaning in the morning.

Owner's Response: This guest forgot to mention that they reported the heater in the spa as not working. The rental agreement indicates should you experience any repair problem to contact our caretaker and he will make the determination as to if this is an emergency or not. Any problem reported and later found functional the guest will be charged a trip fee. We view a spa heater not functioning as a possible safety issue. When the caretaker arrived he found that the guests children changed the spa settings to energy mode (instructions state not to touch these settings). Although we contend the spa was clean at arrival we cleaned it again at n/c. The caretaker also offered to split the trip fee which was not mentioned.
