The Yam House is situated within a scenic plantation setting and although in a rural location, there are neighbours close by providing a secure environment. One of three houses who share the communal swimming pool, the emphasis is on country living in this breezy, peaceful destination. The plantation is now a racehorse and polo pony breeding stud with paddocks for the mares and foals as well as the farmyard animals on the property. The house was built in the traditional style dating from the 1800s and has been tastefully restored by the owner in a comfortable country style, as befitting the property. The Yam House has 4 air-conditioned bedrooms, 2 en-suite bathrooms,1 family bathroom upstairs and 1 full shower room downstairs. The air-conditioned master bedroom has a 5' bed with en-suite bathroom, built-in wardrobes, wooden floor and traditional furnishings. The spacious en-suite bathroom has a bath with shower, double vanity, bidet, WC and dressing table. One twin-bedded room and one single room share the family bathroom with shower, single vanity and WC. These bedrooms have air conditioning, wooden floors, traditional furnishings and built-in wardrobes. The air-conditioned fourth bedroom has a 4'6' bed, a fitted wardrobe, wooden floor, traditional furnishings and an en-suite shower with single vanity and WC. A large living/dining leads to a covered verandah overlooking the paddocks. A fully-fitted kitchen is directly off the dining room and this leads to the laundry room with washer and dryer with a drying yard behind. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and stove. There are sun loungers on the verandah of The Yam House as well as around the pool. Satellite TV and internet are provided. There is a weekly maid service and babysitting is available by arrangement. A welcome pack can be provided if requested and airport meet and greet service if required. Reservations for hire car, restaurants, golf, fishing, etc. can be arranged. A wonderful place
Our initial arrival at the Yam House was one of the highlights of our holiday. We arrived a few hours early, hoping to leave our luggage there, but it was all ready for us, including a very generous welcome pack of food, and we were told we could stay. The week there was great. The house is very spacious, comfortable and immaculately presented. The various staff were always attentive and helpful. We loved it and would definitely recommend staying there.
The only thing to mention, which is obvious from the location, is, you do really need a car. A bus goes past the plantation, but I think getting around would be a bit challenging and it's not really walking distance to the beach, although an easy drive.
If you're after a beautiful retreat within easy reach of amenities but a bit away from it all, this is your place. We would love to return. Thank you and hope to be back.
Thank you for your wonderful review! We are very grateful you took the time to write for us. We are so glad you had a lovely time with us and really look forward to welcoming you again.
Thank you and see you soon.
A COUNTRY HAVEN
We have vacationed in Barbados before, and wanted something different from the traditional beach stay. The Yam House is exactly what we were looking for. This property is in the northern part of the island, and very different from the resort areas. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the house is spacious and well kept, and the atmosphere completely relaxing! In addition, the pool is serene and refreshing on a hot day. I especially enjoyed sitting on the outdoor veranda at meal times watching the birds, goats, and cows. The rooms at night are comfortable and air conditioned, and a breeze keeps the downstairs cool during the day and night. The best part of the property is being able to walk the grounds and pet the horses. They are stunning animals! This is also a child friendly place, and the kids loved the variety of things to do!!! A rental car is a must, and there are many things to do in the northern part of the island. We enjoyed going to the beach every day, and the west side beaches are the most calm...we were even swimming with sea turtles which was one of the highlights of our trip. I highly recommend this property, and will cherish the memories we made on our family vacation.
Our recent stay at this family friendly plantation house was nothing short of perfection. We have been frequent visitors to Barbados over the past 40 years and we have stayed in many wonderful homes. This year we had the good fortune to book the Yam House on Bromefield Plantation and we can honestly say that we have found a bit of paradise on Barbados. The location is rural yet within a short drive to the beach, shopping and dining. The host Mary-Ann Williams was most welcoming and attentive to all our needs. The property surrounding the home is nothing short of idyllic and the accommodations are elegant yet comfortable and cozy. I could go on and on with superlatives in recommending Bromefield to anyone in search of a first rate Barbados vacation. Suffice it to say, we have already booked our return visit... Thanks again for everything Mary-Ann!

Staying at the Yam house was amazing. I stayed here for week in January with my family and I must say I was amazed with how much space this house had. Another surprise was the full bathroom with a shower downstairs instead of the half bathroom we are accustomed to. Mary-Ann was very quick and accommodating to any questions or needs that we had. The only thing I would say was a little trouble was the strength of the wifi. Traveling with teenagers they were glued to their devices and couldn't go far from the router to get proper signal. But overall I had a wonderful experience and would stay there again.
We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday with us and The Yam house exceeded your expectations. I am sorry you didn't find the wifi signal strong enough. We have never had this complaint before. Our guests usually mention to us that they are delighted with how quickly they can get access and how simple it is. However I will certainly have it checked out. I am wondering how far from the router the teenagers needed to be so they could access their devices continually as the house does have full coverage.
Definition of vacation
I have been to Barbados many times before and each time I rent through HomeAway.com, but Bromfield Plantation is by far the best property that I have experienced thus far. Although the property is secluded and quite far from many places I needed to go , I am glad I choose comfort over convenience . Every time I told a local person where I was staying their eyes got wide with shock so I knew I was in for a treat. The property was beautiful, tranquil, and private. If your like me , a lover of nature this is just the property your looking for. The land was well kept, the birds flew in and out as they pleased , a few monkeys 🐒 frequented the property , the horses and cows grazed the field peacefully. I have never experienced anything like Bromfield Plantation, the Yam House , which I was told is over a 100 years old , definitely has modernized feel to it but certain aspects of the house are still the same which is great. Kerry, the grounds keeper was a gracious host he gave us a tour of the property as well as St.Lucy which was beautiful, he took us up to the Animal flower cave, and I have never in my life experienced such beautiful sights , so you must get him to take you on a tour of the town. Going forward when I visit if the property is available this will be my home away from home. Thank you Mary-Ann for accommodating myself and fellow travelers, it is greatly appreciated !
Thank you so much for your kind words and wonderful description of your stay at The Yam House. I am delighted you had a lovely time and look forward to welcoming you again soon! All the very best for the New Year and thank you again. It is so special when people enjoy staying with us.
Warmest regards from Mary-Ann and the team here at Bromefield
Last time in Barbados, we stayed at a beachfront property. This time we decided to try somewhere else. The Yam House was a fantastic option and very good value. The house itself is lovely with quality furnishings. The terrace is beautiful and where we ate all of our dinners. The views are lush and we spotted monkeys in the nearby field as well as humming birds...
We are a family of four, so we had plenty of room.
The shared pool is very nice and we used it when we had a bad weather day.
Thank you Mary-Ann for the start up groceries and Kerry for looking in from time to time.
Having neighbours made us feel safe, but we were also independent.
The fishpot was around 5 mins away, with a pretty little beach and Heywards next to Almond Beach, 10 mins. We sometimes picked up some local food from the back of the van parked at the roundabout there, terrific Yam and flying fish. And very good value.
Wifi worked very well, although at first we had to reset it by pushing ia pen into the hole at the back of the box.
Would definitely return as eaily as good if not better than beachfront.
We rented a car for the duration. Thanks also for meeting us at the airport to help us find the way.
Very happy with the whole holiday!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments! We are all delighted you enjoyed The Yam House and staying with us at Bromefield and we certainly look forward to seeing you again in 2016. This is a very special corner of the island and especially pleased you loved it too.
Best wishes and see you next year.
