My mom and I loved staying there. The setting was beautiful and quiet.
Great getaway cabin
Had everything we needed for cooking in the kitchen, to grilling, to a firepit. Just down the road from all the major attractions. Horses on nearby property were beautiful and friendly as well as their dog. Fun to have the visits!
Beautiful Property with Loads of Charm
Started off worried because the long time owner sold the property after we reserved. Not to worry! The current owners were wonderful communicators and did everything they could to make us comfortable with the reservation. We were so pleasantly surprised when we arrived and saw this charming cabin and beautiful property. We had a graduation picnic and the graduates and friends had a blast playing lawn games and just hanging out by the fire pit eating s'mores. The cabin is well provisioned all the way down to a first aid kit. (which wasn't needed. :) We recommend this property to anyone looking for a fun week/weekend away.
Wasps, No Hot Tub and Stove Issues
This was my first experience with HomeAway after going years of using other rental sites and I will never use this site again!!
We rented a cabin for spring break and it was a disaster from the beginning! When we walked in we quickly realized the ‘hot tub’ that was advertised was a jacuzzi tub...NOT the same by any stretch.
Once back from dinner at a terrible local diner that was recommended - we found a wasp in the tub. As the kids screamed and freaked out, this began the debacle of killing at least 10 wasps over 4 days. No one could stay in the master bedroom upstairs because that is where the nest was. This forced us to sleep on an extremely uncomfortable pullout sofa which as someone with a herniated disc was horrible.
We then went to use the stove in the morning which didn’t work!! The repairman came Monday after checking in Saturday.
While I understand that the new owners just took ownership of the property two weeks ago - they had the audacity to tell us they bent over backwards and refunded $300. This house should not have been rented and I believe we deserve a full refund!!!
I apologize again for the confusion regarding the jacuzzi. There was no jacuzzi checkbox when creating the listing so I checked the hot tub box and wrote in the description “Jacuzzi tub in master bedroom”. This has since been corrected on the listing. It certainly was not meant to deceive you, unlike bringing extra children not listed on your reservation to get out of paying additional guest fees.
There are a few things you forgot to mention in your review. We did pay for an exterminator to come by when you were upset about finding a wasp in the bedroom. Her report states that she did not witness any wasps during her inspection and confirmed that there is no nest in the ceiling. It is a bit confusing why you could not sleep in the bedroom where you found the wasp, yet the jacuzzi tub in the same room was used daily. I know this because my housekeeper and myself came by twice to clean it when there was a dirty film left in the tub after the children used it. It is quite unfortunate that there was so much rain and mud during your stay.
I also apologize that the connection on the stove went bad. This was unexpected, but we did issue you a $300 credit ($100/night) and ran out to purchase a single gas burner for you to cook on until the repairman was able to get there on Monday. In addition to the stovetop, there was also a working microwave, wall oven, and gas grill.
When you first arrived, you complained that there was no Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts nearby. As an act of hospitality, I also purchased some Starbucks kcups, creamer, and croissants for you to use at the cabin.
We appreciate all of your feedback. All of the issues you brought to our attention have been addressed and corrected, with the exception of the local restaurant’s cooking. Unfortunately, we will not be honoring your request for a full refund after you’ve completed your stay. I would also like to remind you of the past due balance still on your booking of unpaid additional guest fees.
It is a charming property
Clean, well maintained, wonderful getaway
Great Vacation at a rustic cabin
Our family had a great stay over Thanksgiving at this cozy cabin. It was close proximity to many activities!
Nearby wineries and breweries. Only 2 miles from the famous Natural Bridge, Monacan Indian Village, Natural Bridge Caverns, Virginia Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom II, and the Pink Cadillac Diner. Just 12 miles north is Lexington, home of General Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson, and the impressive campus of Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute. This area is rich in history! Take a horse drawn carriage ride through the streets of downtown Lexington.
