David & Nora are longtime residents of Hilo. David is a master wood bowl turner and built our homes and gardens here in Hilo. Nora is an CNS, MSN, RN, traveler, animal lover. We lived in Alaska for 18 great years prior to moving back to Hawaii to raise our family of a son and 2 daughters. Love our home here in Waiakea Uka and sharing it with friends and family!
Nora Waters purchased this house in 1999
We found this 3 acre Waiakea Uka property after months of searching on the east side of the Big Island. It is a dream come true for us to be able to live here and share it. The climate is wonderful; the breezes balmy and the night delightfully cool. Night rains keep our plants lush. We love animals: our dwarf Nigerian goats, chickens, 2 dogs and cats, and so do our guests. We live a casual life, grateful for all we have. We work hard to keep everything clean, comfortable & welcoming for our guests so they can just kick back and enjoy themselves!
Sunny days, cool nights, nightly rains that keep Hilo GREEN! Hundreds of rare palms, our bee hive, our ponds, lilies and lotus flowers, and other seasonal bloomers: orchids, vireyas of many colors, ti, hibiscus, brugmansia. David's wood shop. Beautiful walks up the hill and grand views of the ocean from Hilo Bay to Kapoho lighthouse. The company of friends, family, animals and the god sent trade winds that keep us a unique spot on earth. The lovely drive up to the house with striking views of Mauna Kea, Panewa Forest, & Hilo Bay. Driving to work at 6am is a joy, and how many people can say that? We are grateful for this very special spot and hope you enjoy its unique perspective on East Hawaii.
the place. We loved the walk up the hill about a mile with the spectacular view down across Hilo Bay. Great view from the lanai and quiet sitting was the best. Beautiful clean elegantly decorated place! Loved it! Can't wait to come back! Thanks Dave and Nora

Thank you so much for your hospitality. We loved the cottage, and everything was GREAT!! I loved how open it was. Great views !! The wildlife was great ! Your helpfulness was much appreciated. Hope to stay with you again, next time in Hilo !
Thanks so much
What a delight to enter and enjoy this spacious home! The welcoming lanai, spacious bedrooms, ample kitchen and roomy bath, set in a tropical garden surrounded by birdsong (and evening frog serenades!) drew us into a place of deep relaxation and refreshment. Thank you, Nora and David, for the warm welcome and readiness to respond to our questions. We had a lovely time in Hilo and look forward to our return visit!
Accommodations were clean and house was very well equipped with everything needed to cook meals and live comfortably. Was just like being at home. Loved having the dogs and cats around along with the goats. Would definitely stay there again and recommend to anyone staying in the Hilo area.
It was a fantastic Merry Monarch Hula Competition weekend. The best part of the entire weekend was the luxurious home that we stayed in Hilo Mauka (Waiakea town). The home is super clean, the view spectacular and the pets on property were so friendly and really gave you that "home away from home" feel. I would recommend this as a vacation rental to all who enjoy both the country feel, with the comforts of home. This is where you and your family belong!
We are 3 old gals who thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Noe's Nest. The house was spacious and clean and very comfortable. The location was great for our scheduled trips to the Volcano National Park, Volcano Winery, Hawaiian Tropical Botanical Garden, Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory, Rainbow Falls, Coconut Island, and Big Island Candy. We especially enjoyed the time that we spent with the 'house' cat Bijou who was always waiting for us out on the lanai. Thanks to Nora and David for providing the country setting for some old country gals!
My family loved our stay at Noe's Nest! The home is well-appointed and squeaky clean. Soft towels and linens. Very comfortable place to stay. My 4 1/2 year old son adored being greeted each day by Nora and Dave's lovely animals. Nora was kind enough to let him help feed the goats one day! Evenings were nice and cool and we happily slept with the windows open. Nora was a gracious host and spot on with her recommendations for restaurants and things to do. As advertised, the property is a short drive from downtown Hilo, but the change in elevation makes it comfortable at Noe's Nest even on days where Hilo/Bayfront was warm and muggy. We look forward to staying again in future!
