Welcome to Lancaster's Lair! Our mountain-view chalet is located in the award-winning Cacapon South community, less than 10 miles from downtown Berkeley Springs. With four bedrooms and three baths, this custom built three-story chalet will accommodate eight guests in comfort. Whether you are looking for the ideal 'home away from home' for an extended family vacation or the perfect setting for a fun and relaxing weekend getaway with friends, Lancaster's Lair is a terrific choice.
The chalet boasts plenty of modern amenities. Relax in front of the oversized stone wood-burning fireplace while enjoying your cable programming on a 42-inch flat screen television. We also have wireless internet service and central heat and air for your convenience. For fun, enjoy the ping-pong table or the additional 55-inch flat screen television and DVD player in the recreation room. If the outdoors call, gather on the covered porch which wraps around to an expansive deck.
Meals are easy to prepare in the chalet's full kitchen, complete with dishwasher, microwave, and cooking utensils, or you may choose to use the outdoor grill for barbecuing. If you do not want to prepare your meal, the lodge is nearby for a buffet breakfast, quick lunch, or a relaxing dinner. Or treat yourself to a fabulous meal at one of the many superb restaurants in town-- we're happy to offer suggestions!
Lancaster's Lair is within walking distance of a Robert Trent Jones Sr. golf course as well as the local lake for swimming, fishing, and boating. A game of tennis or basketball is also close by, as is horseback riding. Scenic nature trails for hiking wind throughout the area, and in the winter months, downhill and cross-country skiing and snow tubing are nearby.
The town of Berkeley Springs offers a delightful blend of mineral spas, art, and antiques. Civil War battlefields, the C&O Canal, Paw Paw Tunnel, Berkeley Spring State Park, Cacapon Resort State Park, and Coolfont Resort are also close, giving you plenty of sightseeing opportunities. Special events throughout the year include the Apple Butter Festival and the Festival of the Waters.
The Lancaster Family has enjoyed the Berkeley Springs area for generations! They have enlisted me (Sarah) to manage their beautiful and relaxing chalet!
This chalet is a perfect retreat from our busy lives... an awesome setting to explore nature, enjoy fine food and fun shopping, and reminisce and laugh with friends and family.
Wake up early and sip your coffee on the expansive deck overlooking Cacapon Mountain or collect the crew for sundowners in the evenings!
First of all I would like to thank you for accommodating us at the last min. We were orginally suppose to go camping in MD at the beach but the hurricane forced us to abandone those plans and I desperately needed a place. i was calling people non-stop from wed to thurs to basically say hey i need your place for tonight. Most that we liked were booked. When I had almost given up hope your place came through. Thank you for allowing us to come thurs night and leave late sunday.
The place by far exceeded our expectations. It was clean and had a nice layout, roomy and very comfortable. It was truly a relaxing weekend. Everything at the house was in great shape and we had no issues with anything. The place and area was just as you described it. We really noticed the attention to detail like including towels and soap/shampoo in the bathroom that goes a long way. Also you made it easy to pay for the place and you made me feel comfortable about what I was renting.
Having the park across the street was a big plus. We were able to play golf and go hiking. You will def here from us again. We may try to get out there in the winter and do some skiing and/or go back in the spring.
The property itself is very nice. The view from the balcony is amazing. The fireplace is a huge plus. The cost, however, particularly after cleaning fees and other such charges, is prohibitive. It also appeared that the place was not actually cleaned prior to our arrival. It wasn't filthy, but there were dead flies everywhere, and a general sense that maybe the last time it was cleaned was months ago. The internet was spotty and slow, which was problematic for streaming movies at night. So the pros (views, fireplace, nice big warm cabin with cool artwork) were very strong, but the cons (cost, cleanliness, internet) bring it down to three stars. I would definitely return, particularly if there was some sort of cost reduction. Overall it was an excellent weekend in Berkeley Springs and I felt very comfortable in the property.
We stayed at Lancaster's Lair last weekend (October 28 through 30, 2016) with our friends who were also retirees. When we first pulled in the driveway on the hill, we felt like we were in a different word. The surrounding is so quiet and beautiful with tall trees and leaves partly turning yellow! Later deer came so close that we could take pictures from inside the windows or from the big deck. Walking in the house, we felt like home! The interior design is simple and the accommodations and amenities were better than we expected.
We like most the location of this house. Cacapon State Park is within 5 minutes drive, Berkeley Springs State Park with warm spring water Bath House and museum is 10 miles north on route 522, Berkeley Spring Castle and Panorama Overlook are within 15 minutes drive from these places we could take nice pictures!
Overall, this is a good place to stay and enjoy our getaway! More than that, the owner, Sarah, is so wonderful and always answer our questions promptly and nicely! She also allowed us to check in at 2:00 PM instead at 4:00, as we asked, because there were no guest checked out on that day. We will definitely stay here again if we return to Berkeley Springs.
Wouldn't stay more than 2 days if you have 7to 8 people staying there. Ran out water pressure.
The house was an anticipated from the pictures. The top floor has two bedrooms, including the one with 2 twin beds. Then the main floor has a third bedroom, and the 4th is in ground floor. That arrangement worked out great for our group; every couple/family had their own space. Note if you have any guests that aren't good with stairs; both the stirs to the front door and the top floor are a little steep.
The property was clean, well stocked with supplies and adequate for all our needs. The house lived up to the description stated in the listing. We did rent bicycles in Maryland for a ride on the C&0 canal towpath. Also took a drive and explored Harper's Ferry National Park. Would recommend this rental to others.
Wonderful experience. the cabin has everything our family needed and is located next to wooded areas that added privacy. We hope to return, maybe when the trees fill in.
Just across from Cacapon State Park-which boasts a lake for swimming, boating, shooting range, fishing, horseback riding and golf. Whitetail Ski Resort and historic Harper's Ferry are less than an hour away.
Other Activities: shopping, cross country skiing, health spa, basketball, bowling, horseshoes
