Description

Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday villa in Certaldo - Villa 'Il Castore'

350 m2, surrounded 360° by a park, private pool,5 suites with en-suite bathrooms

Villa Il Casolare is a complex of 350 m2. It was built in the 18th century and it dominates the hills of Tuscany. It boasts a breathtaking panorama appreciated in every side of the villa, because it is unobstructed on all four sides. The structure was renovated in January 2014 (with Tuscan style), and combines the love for antique Tuscan décor with the most modern comfort and luxury: every detail is intended for the pleasure and relaxation of the client.

The structure, consisting of a main house, an attached house, and a private swimming pool immersed in nature, is located on a hill in a dominating position. It is surrounded 360° by a park of one hectare decorated with cypress trees, fruit trees, olives, and vines. It is located a few kilometres away from Certaldo. This is a privileged location for those who desire relaxing and calm holidays and want to visit the most beautiful city of art in Tuscany.

Main House

Ground floor: access through three different entrances, spacious hallway, reading room/library, living room with fireplace and TV, dining room, independent kitchen with fireplace, small bathroom, and cellar with a selection of wines and oils.

First floor: TV room, 5 bedrooms with en-suite bathroom

Red Suite: bedroom with king size bed, built in wardrobe, desk, and bathroom with shower.

Yellow Room: bedroom with two single beds, wardrobe, chest of drawers, armchair, and bathroom with shower.

Green Suite: bedroom with two single beds, wardrobe, and bathroom with shower.

Blue Suite: bedroom with king size bed, wardrobe, desk, armchair, and bathroom with shower.

Pink Suite: bedroom with king size bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, and bathroom with shower.

The living room on the first floor is accessed via a magnificent 'Colombaio' staircase that rises along the structure and offers a splendid panoramic view of the Chianti Classico hills.

Attached House

The veranda in front of the house leads to a typical Tuscan barn, in which there is a spacious living room with fireplace and a fully equipped gym, all surrounded by large windows that assure exceptional brightness and a view of the surroundings.

Veranda: attached to the barn, it is a lovely porch with wide arches and offers a breath taking view of the surrounding hills. It is equipped with a large dining table to enjoy fantastic outdoor dining moments.

Swimming pool

It is nestled a few steps away from the house. The pool measures 14 x 7 m. The surrounding solarium is built from handmade bricks typical of the region. It is completed with sun beds, beach chairs, chairs, and umbrellas.

Picture perfect vacation in the Tuscan countryside

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful vacation at Villa Il Casolare! The house was beautifully renovated with modern and well-equipped kitchen and baths, while retaining its old world charm and character. It was clean, comfortable and the grounds and pool were well-cared for and truly lovely. We were there in late June/early July when the weather was warm and sunny. Despite the lack of AC, by closing up the house in the morning and then opening up the shutters and windows at night (the Tuscan way!), and using the fans provided, we were plenty cool and comfortable while we slept. The crystal clear pool was set amidst a grove of olive trees, and we spent many afternoons relaxing and reading under the shady canopy, in one of the many chairs and lounges.

The location of Il Casolare was convenient to Florence (easy train ride), Siena, San Gimignano (both stunningly beautiful, medieval, walled cities) and even Cinque Terre - a bit longer drive, but well worth the visit! We found that interspersing a busier sightseeing day with a relaxing day at the villa made for an ideal vacation schedule.

Eleonora, the owner, was warm, gracious and incredibly helpful to us as we planned our time in Italy. She generously helped me with train schedules, restaurant recommendations and reservations as well as local info and maps. She and Andrea even prepared a delicious meal one evening for us at the house; something that they offer and which I would highly recommend. They had a wonderful selection of wines available at the house, as well. As a family of runners, our efforts on the quiet and mostly shady roads around the villa were rewarded with breathtaking views at every bend.

Most of all, we loved the loggia next to the house, with its stunning view of the countryside, including the distinct hill and towers of San Gimignano. We spent much time here reading, writing, sketching and enjoying breakfast, the occasional lunch and more dinners than we expected! Out of the 9 nights we spent there, more than half included dinner in this amazing spot. We made a trip to the local grocery store and market and found ingredients to supplement the thoughtful welcome basket provided to us by Eleonora. Some of our favorite memories include all of us in the kitchen, cooking up a delicious pasta feast and then dining outside, watching the sun go down, with a glass of wine!

I would absolutely recommend this villa to my family and friends and will definitely plan a return visit!

Tuscany Villa for Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

The Villa Il Casolare was everything the description and pictures showed. This was an absolutely beautiful villa and generous in its living spaces. Eclectic touches thru-out the villa showed that a lot of care went into the renovation and decorations. The surrounding hills were remarkable for the views of vineyards, olive groves and out a little further the hill city of San Gimignano and it's towers. For the six adults and three children we all had our own rooms and ensuite bathrooms. Plenty of electricity and never without hot water. The pool was done very well and at the end of a day of touring a great relaxation. The owner prepared one of our meals, the food excellent and serving it outside was a great event for our family -- celebrating five July birthdays on the 4th. The owner even had fantastic birthday cake prepared for us. The wines stocked at the villa were almost all very good and reasonably priced. Overall I give the Villa and the owner 5 Stars for meeting our expectations.

On the downside we visited in one of the hottest months and Italy was also experiencing a terrible heat wave --we were at 104 degrees one day--the pool really helped. We suggested to the owner that every bedroom should have fans and downstairs a couple for the setting areas. The only negative were the mosquitoes--seemed to be in the house and all around the Villa. Probably due to all of the new plantings underway.

Would we stay there again? Absolutely -- but only in the fall or spring.
