About this property

Experience Living at the center of the Village of South Britain settled in1683

Your stay will be in a portion of a 1795 home accessed from a private parking space by a walkway to the three stairs that leads to its historic entrance doorway beyond which is an entrance hall with kitchen, and door into the 400 square foot Library living room with a thousand books, queen-size bed, 55" Roku TV, desk, two seat dining table and a newly installed small bathroom with waterfall shower.

Cool fresh air in the summer and warm in the winter, is provided from a duct with operable damper.

You will have access to two acres of lawns and gardens on the property with fire pit, gazebo, and Loo building, surrounded by trees with a backdrop of a towering forested hill, that is climbable to the stone wall marking the boundary of the property where in the fall and winter one can obtain an overview of the Village below and the farmland beyond.

You will be living in at the center of the Historic Village of South Britain, first settled in 1686 with at present has 22 pre-1800 homes, an 1836 Congregational Church across the road, one of a dozen mill buildings along the river waterway, and buildings that served as the Town of Southbury's first town hall and library. Nearby is the Village Delicatessen with sandwiches and groceries, and the Audubon Sanctuary with 700 acres of paths along the river and up into the hills.

A mile away from your rental home, along a dirt road through farm land, is the center of the Town of Southbury's Main Street business district with shopping centers at both ends. It can also be reached by main roads that take a longer time to get to the center.

A mile away in another direction is the Audubon Sanctuary with bird observation balcony and hiking trails throughout the 700 acres along its river and up into its hills.

Terrible tiny bathroom
The room looked nice with all the bookshelves and a decent bed. However, who needs 50 thousand book when staying just a few days? The bathroom was so tiny that we had to enter it sideways. Trying to get out of it, i hit the shower handle and got a cold spray on my back 3 times. It would have been better to use the "kitchen" space to extend the bathroom. Then take out some of the bookshelves to add a mini frig and microwave near the table. More bookshelves could be removed to make space for guest belongings. The bed was comfortable, but the sheets didn't fit right and kept coming off in the corners. We would not stay here again. Plus the add-ons made the price too high.

Such a relaxing stay
My husband and I were visiting friends and we enjoy seclusion when it comes to staying in different states. Jay and Julian made our stay perfect and was exactly what we were looking for! I strongly recommend their suites if you are looking to stay around the area. Thank you guys again!

friends from stranger
talking with owner was the easiest I've had anywhere renting. Sitting & talking over handmade blueberry waffles we solved all the worlds issues. I found a new friend in a beautiful home to boot.

2/10 Terrible

Barbara D.

Never again!
Was told by the owner on arrival that the room I booked for four days wasn’t available because he overbooked. At the last minute he turned his dressing room (with his toiletries and clothes) into a guest room using an air mattress. I had a miserable night as the mattress was cold and uncomfortable. After telling him that I didn’t sleep and that I wouldn’t spend another night in that room he had the person in my originally reserved room switch with me. Who does this?????? There’s more but as far as I’m concerned this is enough of a heads up for anyone considering booking here.

Travel the roads to the north along the CT Antique Trail that begins in neighboring historic Woodbury, founded in 1689, with two houses open for viewing, and then on to see the towns of Litchfield County, each with its own distinctive appearance
