I'll start with the downside - no WiFi in the house - just meant research had to be done prior to visit or in one of the many venues around the city offering free WiFi . No street parking between 2pm and 6 pm - however unrestricted parking available at the top of the road or next street. Train line at rear of house - did disturb early morning lie-in a bit.

On the plus side - bus stop about 60 metres away with frequent (every 20 minutes) bus into the city for connections to the incredible public transport system on offer - Keyham railway station about 300 metres away for railway connection - costcutter supermarket in next street - chippie and pub next to Keyham station - house comfortable. clean and well kitted out in a quiet residential area - highly recommended.

Good quality.

A very comfortable and homely property. As others have said, its all a bit dated but clean and wholesome. It is surprising to find a rental property without Wi-Fi in this day and age. Convenient for the city and all travelling. Please ignore others comments about the railway at the back and sirens from the dockyard, as it would be hardly noticeable to anyone unless they were on a night shift!

A home from home. If you’re from 1972 and you like trains.

  • 3 of 5

Unfortunately relaxing in the garden of this property is somewhat spoilt by the odour of cat excrement wafting over from from neighbour A’s garden, mixed with the odour of cigarette smoke from neighbour B’s. Added to this is the constant background hubbub from nearby primary school, which is situated just the other side of the railway line (yes, railway line), which runs along the bottom of the garden. How none of the other reviews mention this is beyond me.

Admittedly there aren’t many trains - it is, after all, far cheaper and easier to get a bus into town than wait for one of the few trains that stop at the nearby station - but the trains do run all day, and occasionally at night. It is also possibly worth noting that the train noise and primary school noise are, on occasion, both completely drowned out by the noise of cannons being fired on the nearby naval base. But only every other day. So not a major problem.

Alas staying on the hottest week of the year so far meant we had to keep the all the windows open, so there was no respite from the noise even inside the house.

Clean and well equipped (if not dated) this house certainly is. Quiet and peaceful the garden is not.

homely warmth

  • 5 of 5

I stayed for almost the whole of March 2016 whilst my husband was being treated at the main hospital. Although this was a really stressful time, the accommodation proved to be a comfortable, safe haven of peace quiet and convenient for public transport and shops. The house was clean, very well equipped and there is a lovely little garden. It is not ultra modern, but a place where we felt at home. We were very pleased with it, and the owner was very very helpful to me in a traumatic few weeks of my life, I will always remain grateful to her and her house!

Owner's Response: I remember this lady and her daughter very well, i felt very sorry for her and talked with her at length about her husband while he was in hospital, before being transferred to a hospital near their home.
