Why The Owner chose North Coast California

We loved living on the river with snorkling, swimming rafting and fishing in our back yard.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The house is really nice & well appointed. Great location easy driving to the coast, redwoods & out along branches of the Smith River. Had a wonderful time with games, television & fires in the fireplace each evening.

Beautiful setting!

  • 4 of 5

Very nice place, nice to park in the garage, good wood supply. For the price this sweet spot could use a little sprucing up, thread-bare sheets and comforters, for example. I'd go back, though, the good quite overshadows any inconvenience. Owners very responsive, easy to work with and you can't go wrong there.

Private, quiet, good value, good location

  • 4 of 5

Nice older house. Starting to need some maintenance (e.g., grill rusted out, microwave doesn't work, no light in fridge). Bring your own spices and wood for the fire.

Owner's Response: I have filled the wood box! A full 8 foot rack of dry wood in the garage. A brand new Gas Grill on the back deck as of 4/4/17. and the refrigerator light has been replaced. The Microwave was working when I checked the home. Thanks Danni for you feedback Rob

This property is beautiful! It is close to Stout Grove, the beach and Smith River!

I really enjoyed hearing Hutsinpillar creek while enjoying the outdoor covered patio. Very relaxing. This was especially nice as it rained the majority of our stay. Would stay here again!

Beautiful Place tucked away in the Redwoods on the Smith river

  • 5 of 5

The place was great! Stayed here for a fishing trip. I liked the spacious living and having the 3 bedrooms for privacy. Everything was clean. I liked having the two car garage to park my driftboat in. There is a private road leading down to the Smith river. Had a nice warm fire...stocked with plenty of fire wood too! I would stay here anytime and recommend this property to friends and family. Close to Crescent city and Brookings. Owners provided great customer service.

Exactly what is advertised!

  • 5 of 5

We were in town for a family wedding and stayed here for 5 nights - 2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant. The owner was very responsive prior to our arrival and we did not need to contact him during our stay at all. The home is exactly what is advertised and shown in the photos with a couple very minor furniture variations (nothing significant). There were a few things I would put in the category of "if it were my own summer cabin, I wouldn't even notice them"... a toilet seat with a rusty hinge, a very loud washer/dryer, a gate that is difficult to latch correctly, and light switches not in the expected places. Again, these are minor things I wouldn't even bother with if this were my home but did give us pause as we lived there for 5 days. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen worked great for us, the common rooms were spacious, towels and bed linens were provided in abundance, the area was beautiful and the short walk to the river was nice. The drive into Crescent City was quick (10 minutes) and there were a number of places we frequented for breakfast/lunch/dinner. Try the strawberry shortcake at the Apple Peddler and be sure to stop and get the tour at the Ocean World Aquarium - it's a small operation but great for young kids!
