About Jennie Pinto

Sea Shell Sanctuary is our home in the USA. We are residents of the UK, coming to the States when possible. We enjoy bird watching, wildlife viewing, canoeing, bicycling and found the perfect home to do all. Across the street from Osprey Cove, we are able to watch the REAL Florida from our balcony, golf cart or bicycle into town, enjoy the historic downtown, and be home in time for tea.

Jennie Pinto purchased this house in 2007

Why Jennie Pinto chose Florida North Central Gulf Coast

Cedar Key is home to Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge; the Refuge consists of 13 islands ranging in size from 1 to 120 acres, totaling 762 acres. We kayak to many and enjoy viewing the wading birds, shorebirds, fish, manatees, bald eagles, ospreys, crabs, and even some reptiles.

When not wildlife watching, we enjoy bicycle riding. With the entire island of Cedar Key being .91 sq. mile (2.35 sq. km), we can ride anywhere within 20 minutes.

What makes this house unique

Cedar Key is 60 miles (96.5 km) WSW of Gainesville Florida, 2.5 hours north of Tampa, and a 3 hour drive from Orlando. Close enough for a day trip to all the Florida 'attractions', yet far enough to experience the true nature of Florida. There are no high rises, no congestion, no traffic jams; there are friendly locals, locally owned and managed shops and art galleries, yet no chain restaurants nor chain stores. We are able to savour life, take a deep breath, remember how life is supposed to be.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We have been to Cedar Key dozens of times and can say this was the best and most relaxing - as the sign reads in the master bedroom - "Just another day in paradise " We feel rejuvinated.

another lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

Once again I've had a wonderful stay in this home from home. So well-furnished and well-equipped - obviously a much-loved family home. So relaxing, but with plenty to do in the local area. Having the use of bikes is very convenient and what fun to be able to ride round in the golf cart. Overall a fab place for a holiday.

This was out sixth stay at Sea Shell Sanctuary. The house is very well equipped and the view from the porch of the marshland is fabulous. The house is convenient to everything that we like to do. It is well managed and maintained. We plan to return in 2017.

Nature Coast rocks as usual!

  • 5 of 5

Just spent 2 nights in SS and we loved it. I've worked cleaning hotel rooms and I can tell when a place is cleaned properly and this place was CLEAN. It's also quiet, well appointed and the owners have wide variety of reading tastes...great books. There's never a hassle checking in or out and we'll keep giving them business. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Lovely home, but remote.

  • 4 of 5

The house was great, clean, spacious and comfortable for four adults. It was well furnished and had everything you needed to feel at home. My only issue was that, I did not ask the right questions prior to renting. In order to use the kayaks and to go fishing you have to go to town and use the public dock. This is not a problem, but because I saw pictures of water by the house, I assumed they had a dock. My mistake, the water is across the street and there is not a dock. Other then this we loved the house and our stay. In addition, the reality agent handling this home was very accommodating and wanted to make sure we enjoyed our time in Cedar Key.

Quiet, serene location, but within driving distance of lots of adventures. We had so much fun scalloping, fishing, snorkeling in nearby springs, bike riding....we need a vacation from our vacation to recover!

Relaxing Nature Retreat and Great Amenities!

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed a relaxing retreat in Cedar Key and selected the Seashell Sanctuary because it was secluded, pet-friendly and had so many amenities... Bikes, kayaks, and a golf cart are included! We used the golf cart everyday and it was great to travel freely around Cedar Key without needing a car. If you love nature, the outdoors and need to unplug from the busyness of life, then this is a great place. If you still need to stay connected, they do have wifi and satellite TV! Definitely eat the Clam Chowder at Tony's or visit the Big Deck Raw Bar (pet-friendly) for some great food! The property was managed by Jennie and she was friendly and accessible when we had questions.
