Guestbook comments from the owner

Reviewed 11 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We stayed at the Coach House for a family 70th birthday. We all said 'wow' as we drove up the driveway when we arrived. It was dark but the house was all lit up and looked so inviting. We had a fabulous reception from Anna who had baked bread and scones for our arrival. The house is beautifully presented and maintained to an extremely high standard. We felt very at home and comfortable during our stay. Our party ages were 20 months - 70 years and the house catered for all our needs. The fluffy robes and chocolates on the towels were a lovely touch. We can not recommend this house enough Anna is a fantastic host. Thanks for such a perfect setting for a big birthday celebration.

Private dining available from a well-respected Norfolk chef using the finest local ingredients. Fresh eggs available from our small flock of free-range chickens. Scones with homemade jam on arrival. Personal greeting and quick tour of the property by the owner, Anna. The Coach House is a detached property on a private country estate. It is completely self-contained within its own large gardens with countryside views. It is not part of a holiday complex or group of cottages. Although tucked away, the house is close to amenities and is near to link roads to explore whole of Norfolk and its coast, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. The Coach House was built in 1800, originally housing horses and coaches. The bedrooms upstairs were once the hayloft and the downstairs bedroom used to be part of the stables. Newly renovated to include all the comforts of a modern home.

Celebrating a birthday, our family came together for a wonderful weekend. The property was extremely comfortable, set in delightful surroundings and offered a high standard of accommodation.

The location gave easy access to the coast and inland, places like Burnham Market.

We would thoroughly recommend this property and the kindness and attention to detail which the owner paid to our comfort.

A beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

We booked a weekend stay in order to celebrate my husband's 70 th birthday. Our party consisted of 8 adults and 2 children aged 7 and 9. The house more than met our expectations and we had a memorable weekend.

The owners' attention to detail enabled young and not so young to relax and enjoy the stay. The hot tub was especially enjoyed by the younger members. The friendly horses were a delight too.

Anna thoughtfully provided us with scones, cream and jam which we tucked into on arrival.

A huge thank you to the owners for enabling us to escape to the country!

Stunning property and very well maintained

  • 5 of 5

I booked to stay at the coach house the day before we stayed and Anna was extremely helpful from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Email was sent to me straight away explaining everything I needed to know about the property and really good directions. Upon arrival we were greeted by Anna who gave us a tour of the Coach house and explained how to use everything including the hot tub which was very easy. We were all amazed how squeaky clean the property was and such attention to detail in the bedrooms with beautiful furniture and feather quilts with a selection of different pillows and cushions. The showers were just perfect with the added touch of some very nice body wash & hair conditioner. The kitchen is huge with 3 different ovens and everything you need is close to hand. It has a real warm homely feel about it. The back garden had lots of different seats to choose from with cushions and sun loungers. The hot tub was so relaxing especially at night with all the tree lights on. The location was perfect and very peaceful with lots of different shops only a few minutes drive away including Tesco and a local butcher. I think out of our group the top favourite was the hot tub followed by the extremely comfortable beds

Quietly situated on the edge of the peaceful riverside village of Hilgay, near Downham Market. The Coach House is a stunning luxury retreat, perfectly located for touring Norfolk and it's coastline, as well as Cambridgeshire. The vibrant Cathedral City of Ely is a short drive as is the ancient maritime town of King's Lynn.

Some of our favourite things to do and see....

We adore the glorious sandy beaches at Hunstanton. A Victorian seaside town with charm and character; renowned for its striped cliffs and magnificent sunsets. Have a go at kite surfing! Explore the coast and visit Wells, Heacham, Burnham Market, Cromer and Sheringham.

A wander around our ancient market town of Downham Market, 4 miles away, known locally as 'The Gingerbread Town', also home to a clean, well-run swimming pool and leisure centre.

Enjoy a superb mix of shopping, history, cinema and entertainment in King’s Lynn.

It's not everyday you see your local butcher in a London Bus on the river! Hilgay Raft Race, a hilarious fun-packed, fund-raising event on the river in our normally very sleepy little village! Every July.

Dinosaur Adventure, a favourite with our children! A truly ‘monster’ day out with brilliant indoor and outdoor activities.

Be Wilderwood, another favourite! A huge, award winning forest of family fun and outdoor adventure. Tree houses, zip wires, jungle bridges, Crocklebogs, Twiggles and Boggles, storytelling, boat trips, marsh walks and really yummy food! Our children loved building a den.

Stow Hall Gardens; a very local well-kept secret! Shh! Welcomes dogs on a lead.

The Hare Arms, 5 miles away, simply good local food and beer in a beautiful setting.

Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve, the National Trust’s oldest nature reserve and England’s most famous fen.

The Cathedral City of Ely, home to 'The Ship of The Fens', one of the most magnificent Cathedrals in England.

Fishing at Dent’s in Hilgay, just across the road, 5 well-stocked fishing lakes.

Ryston Park Golf Club, in the next village, welcomes visitors.
