Cyprus: Cyprus is the third largest Island in the Mediterranean, it is an island of beauty and a country of contrasts. Cool, pine-clad mountains are a complete scene-change after golden sun-kissed beaches. Tranquil, timeless villages are in striking contrast to modern cosmopolitan towns.
In Cyprus all distances are easily manageable, mostly on modern roads and highways - with a secondary route or two for the more adventurous. The summers are long and hot, fruit trees buckle under the weight of their bounty as do the vines, the grapes of which go into producing some fine local wines. The Island has long been of great strategic importance and boasts the legacy of many of its occupying empires, fortifications built by the Crusaders still stand. A Villa holiday here is idyllic, there is lots to see and plenty to do, the welcome is warm and the weather likewise.
Kathikas Village: The warmth and rich hospitality you will find here are as sincere and old as Cyprus itself. This is a corner of Cyprus as yet untouched by mass commercial development. Whether your shopping in the local bakery or enjoying a Cyprus coffee at one of Kathikas' 'Kafeneon's' you may well be surprised at the locals interest shown in visitors from cooler climes. Local places of interest include an Ethnic Museum and Donkey Farm where children can take a donkey ride. In or around Kathikas village you will find five restaurants(two within walking distance of the Villa), a bank and a grocery supermarket.
Local Shopping: Part and parcel of any holiday is the question of what to take home. Leather is very good value. The shoe shops stock up-to-date styles at very reasonable prices. Handbags, suitcases and jackets are a good bargain. Shoes and jackets, as well as men's suits and shirts, can be made-to-measure within a week or so. Handicrafts abound on every shopping street. A good spot to view them is the Cyprus Handicraft Centre in Lefkosia, with retail shops in every town. Small items of the distinctive, traditional pottery make good gifts, and so does Cyprus copper ware and filigree silver. Always popular is the beautiful 'Lefkaritika' or ' Lefkara Lace'. Folkweave or 'Phitiotica lace' as it best known can be seen being made in the nearby village of Phiti, it really is worth a visit. The village of Kathikas has two high quality wineries with special wines made from the locally picked grapes among the best in the region.
Thanks for all your help regarding the holiday. We had a truly fantastic time and Panicos and Marina were the best of hosts. We are definately hoping to go again next year. Jane, Lincolnshire.
I thought I would just drop you a note to say how much we enjoyed our stay in Kathikas at Villa Marina.
We really enjoyed the house, the village, Paphos and Cyprus in general.
Can you please pass on our thanks to Panikos and Marina for their hospitality, which made us feel very much at home. Finally thanks to you for making it all so easy. Alastair, Inverness.
8 people, ages varying from two and a half to 49 years, had the most amazing holiday in the beautiful, unspoilt village of Kathikas. From the moment we arrived at the villa, late, hot and tired, we were wowed by the size and facilities the villa had to offer. The website pictures really do not do it justice! It was extremely clean upon arrival, with a food welcome pack - generous for 8 - and was cleaned again thoroughly halfway during our stay.
The owners Marina & Panicos made us very welcome, as is the Cypriot way, and gave us lots of advice/tips when required. Visit their restaurant 'The Moorings' on Paphos seafront - a lovely meal with very friendly staff plus a discount too! Also in Paphos - visit Skorpios bar near the market area - a favourite of ours for many years for a lunchtime drink & snack and to be spoilt by the staff. They open on Saturday evenings for Meze and music. Try the Melitzia Tavern in Tala village - another old favourite with fabulous views of the sunset.
Kathikas village itself has several really good restaurants & bars. We really liked Imogens and the Petradaki tavern, followed by a nightcap in the bar opposite the church and visitors centre, up the steps.
We are all missing the very spacious and well equipped villa, the sun, the pool , the food and the people of Cyprus. This was about our 6th visit to this lovely island and by far the best. We will definitely return to this lovely villa in such a pretty village.
Thank you The Hodge and Keech Family from Hampshire
Two families and a total of nine adults were all accommodated comfortably in this well appointed villa. The small Cypriot village of Kathikas is literally outside your front door with several restaurants and bars and a couple of supermarkets within 5 minutes walk. Being located in the hills above Paphos meant that nighttime temperatures were far more bearable than down on the coast and also there were no mozzies!
Our hosts were very helpful throughout the stay, providing advice and guidance to us when asked. The fact that they also owned a restaurant in Paphos was also a bonus as we were treated like long lost friends when we ate there.
The acid test is whether we would go there again and the answer has to be yes. I would definitely recommend Villa Marina for those who want to see the real Cyprus as opposed to the tourist areas on the coast.
Thanks from 2 Hampshire families.
We had a lovely time at the villa with family and friends including 4 late teenage boys and grandad of 80!
The villa is very spacious and well maintained with excellent cooking facilities and equipment provided.
The owners were extremely helpful and easy to contact.
The village is quiet and friendly with fab simple food at local restaurants
Most of our time was spent relaxing by the pool reading and swimming to cool off
Our family has just returned from our second two week vacation in Villa Marina. The Villa is very spacious and well appointed. It is on three floors with the 4 main bedrooms and a bathroom on the top floor, the lounge, kitchen, a toilet and a small bedroom on the main floor and a bar, play area, another bathroom, and the washing machine on the floor below. The village is in the village of Kathikas which is a very pleasant Cypriot village in the hills 20 minutes drive away from Coral Bay and 30 minutes from Paphos. Panicos and Marina speak good English and are very friendly and helpful.
We spent most of our vacation in the villa or around the pool. We spent our time swimming, reading or playing table tennis. In the evenings we either walked to one of the local tavernas, which are of a really high standard, or ate in the villa and watched a DVD with the children. The villa is really quiet both during the day and at night, with most sounds coming from local wild life (or our children in the pool).
This villa is ideal for those who want a quiet restful holiday, or a base for exploring the beautiful Akamas peninsular.
A very spacious comfortable property with excellent facilities. It was a relief to return to the tranquility of Kathikas village after a day out in busier areas. Our favourite days though were spent relaxing around the pool. The villagers were very friendly and welcoming as were the owners. There were 4 restaurants within 10 minutes walk of the villa, our favourite was Imogen's for the vegetarian meze. We would definitely consider staying at Villa Marina again as there is so much more we would like to see in Cyprus and we prefer to stay away from the main tourist trail.
Quiet village life with a touch of luxury, just 25 minutes from Paphos, 15 minutes from Polis and 15 minutes from Latchi the village of Kathikas attracts more and more visitors each year. Its surrounding countryside is perfect for walking, birdwatching, photography and many other leisure pursuits. Kathikas is close to the sea, beaches, mountains and forests, yet it is also convenient to the tourist resorts of Paphos with all its modern facilities. Vineyards abound in and around Kathikas, the two local wineries wholeheartedly welcome visitors to sample there choicest wines. The famous Coral Bay beach areas are only 20 minutes away, the drive of which has some quite stunning scenery.
Golf: Paphos is the new jewel in the crown for golfers seeking golf breaks in the warmth of the eastern Mediterranean. It offers golfers challenging world class championship courses, warm hospitality and almost year round sunshine. There are three 18 hole golf courses to choose from. Tsada Golf Club which is just 20 minutes from Paphos town, on an elevated position 550 meters above sea level to ensure cool breezes during the summer months. It plays to a par 72 and measures 6,060 meters. The Secret Valley Golf Club is 18 kilometres east of Paphos lying within a scenic valley and offers panoramic views. It plays to a par 72 and measures 6,120 meters. The Aphrodite Hills Golf Complex is a unique up-market experience The Award Winning Golf course is located near to the birthplace of Aphrodite, only 2 mins from the main Limassol-Paphos highway. The course is in a fantastic setting on 2 plateaux, 300m metres high. It plays to a Par 71 and measures 6,665 metres.
