Besiktas is one of the oldest areas of Istanbul but these days also a modern, vibrant and fun neighbourhood. Examples of historical must-sees are the Dolmabahçe Palace, Yildiz Palace and the Istanbul Sea Museum.
Besides historical highlights you’ll find here many bars and restaurants and cheerful groups of young people enjoying the nightlife. It’s close proximity to the Golden Horn and Taksim area together with great transportation links make it even more attractive.
We really enjoyed the view overlooking the Bosphorous, and the apartment was comfortable and met our family's needs. It is conveniently located in Beskitas with good "walkability", and a market, butcher, and liquor store just down the hill. The hill that the apartment is on is very steep; we had no problems walking it, but other people might. The majority of the apartment was very clean; however, after we checked in we noticed clumps of long dark hair and dust clumps in the rooms and the dining room table underneath the plastic tablecloth was very dirty. As we are not very squeamish people, we just cleaned the apartment ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The weekly housekeeping service was great and efficient, and we were provided with clean bedding and towels. We would suggest that a full-size broom and dust pan be provided for your renters, as well as additional trash bags and dishwasher soap, especially for families like us who like to cook while on vacation. Instructions on how to operate the clothes washer and where to take the trash would have been appreciated too. An extra set of keys would be awesome, as sometimes we had problems coordinating access to the apartment if our family wanted to split up to enjoy Istanbul. We loved the neighborhood, the people, the city, and the view!
