About Mike Wooster

I am a recovering Floridian, spending my childhood in South Florida and early adult years in Jacksonville. Following 8 years as a Navy pilot, Work related relocation has taken us to Pennsylvania, Ohio, (back to Florida), North Carolina, Mississippi and finally Oklahoma.

We lived in and loved this home for two years and have been blessed to be able to share with others.

Mike Wooster purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Mike Wooster chose Maggie Valley/Waynesville Area

We love the location of this home. Although not up on a mountain, we have wonderful views and are only a short drive to town.

Great get-away

  • 4 of 5

My family really enjoyed our weekend get-away to the Rustic Roost. The cabin is well-appointed, and provides just about all you'd need for the weekend. The host and property management company are prompt, friendly, and easy to work with. We did have a little trouble finding the location, as the house itself isn't marked with a house number, and at the end of our stay, we had some trouble with trash collection/drop-off. Otherwise, the location was a perfect jump-off for our trips up to the BRP, Dillsboro, and Asheville.

Very happy with house and much enjoyed the area

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable and well equipped in a delightful and welcoming area. Very spacious reception and dining area. Very nice terrace with good garden furniture, looking up into the Smokies. Good access to much to be seen. We enjoyed staying here and exploring this part of USA.

Great View and Location

  • 4 of 5

As advertised, this property is perfectly situated on a hilltop at the edge of Waynesville with a view of the mountains to the north and west and a pastoral scene below. The cabin is perfect for a group of four and will hold more. The photos of the cabin reflect the property's appearance. Kitchen had all the right utensils and the cabin had all the amenities we require. We loved the easy access to Waynesville and beyond. The property manager was easy to work with and very helpful. Driveway was blacktopped and landscape nicely managed to permit views and maintain a garden like feel around the cabin. We loved the Panacea coffee house, the Chocolate Bear and the shops downtown. Loved shopping the new Ingles for groceries and a Starbucks coffee. I would recommend this cabin. Side trips to Cherokee, Cataloochee, Brevard and Asheville were all easy and enjoyable to make from this location.

Womderful retreat

  • 5 of 5

A Rustic Roost was even better than the listing claimed. The photos do not do it justice. The hiuse was so comfortable and well equipped we wanted for nothing. All we needed was food and our own personal items. We used the house as a base for day trips in the area...Hendersonville, Ashville. And the Blue Ridge Parkway. But Waynesville was the perfect little town. We loved the Friday night Art Walk, the Wednesday and Saturday Farmers Markets, and the mountain music and dancing in the street. However, the best time each day was sitting on the screened porch, rocking and contemplating the view....with our coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. We look forward to the chance to come again, and stay at A Rustic Roost.

Such a disappointment. NO views.

  • 1 of 5

After an 8 1/2 hr. drive we arrived at 5pm.to find the place had not been cleaned after the last guests. Beds unmade, dirty towels, pizza boxes on the kitchen counter, etc. The smell was not too pleasant either. The property manager, Donna got someone in to clean and about 8:45 pm we were able to re-enter the cabin. Hungry & tired.

The biggest disappointment was there are NO views from the cabin or porches in any direction! The place is just overgrown that I doubt there is a view in the winter either. Besides it being overgrown, the screened in porch deck needs a good cleaning & pressure wash. The rocking chairs were so uncomfortable we had backaches from them. The outdoor metal dining table is rusty, the swings were filthy & need a good pressure wash too.

The only good thing is this place has is a short ride into town. But we drive up here for the views from the cabin. We rent many times a yr. and found this to be very overpriced, compared to others places we've stayed.

I suggest that someone does a lot of upkeep of the garden and clear out some trees, vines etc and provide views from the cabin.

Owner's Response: I am truly sorry our cabin did not live up to your expectations or match the wonderful reviews of past. We have recently repaved the road and replaced the rocking chairs on the front porch. Our yard service is in the process of trimming back the trees which are the only hindrance to the views of the mountains we advertise on our web page. During an upcoming break in rentals we will also take care of the outdoor tables and swings. As for cleaning, this was an unfortunate scheduling error and we have added additional staff to assure it does not happen again. Again, please accept our apologies and our appreciation for the frank input. Reviews of all kinds serve to make us better

Wonderfully clean and well decorated

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was beautifully and tastefully decorated and was exceptionally clean. There were plenty of linens, blankets, and extra towels. The only thing I would have liked to have was a fan for the master bedroom as it gets a little warmer in that room and a few knives. I had a difficult time cutting vegetables with the few knives that were available. The fan also would help because on two of the coldest nights (of the year so far....18 degrees), a neighbor located at the bottom of the hill behind the cabin decided to leave their dog out all night long so my husband's sleep suffered because of the all night barking. The owners cannot be blamed for the neighbors poor treatment of the pet but a fan would help future guests have the noise to drown out any future cruelties of the neighbors down the hill. The area was so beautiful and there are plenty of hiking spots and some great local shopping. I encourage anyone to visit the waterfalls and the Bear Meats Den in Cherokee as I purchased some of the most wonderful soaps and craft items. The Cabin was well worth the money we spent and we will definitely consider coming back.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review. Your input certainly will improve the stay for future visitors and hopefully for your next stay. I will address the fan and dwindling knife issue immediately and should have them resolved within a week. Thank you again for your comments. Mike Wooster
