Azulejos tiling, sturdy wood and lots of light –all the classic hallmarks of a Lisbon apartment. The cobbled street below is just as typical. Buy fresh fruit, go out for dinner, and enjoy a cocktail in unpretentious surroundings – all within few metres of your door. It’s hard to imagine that such local style is right in the centre of the city.
Students and artists of all types get together in this area to let their hair down at night. The Bairro Alto is the epicentre of the city’s alternative scene.
But it’s not all about nightlife. The day is the perfect time to check out the views from the Mirador de São Pedro de Alcântara or have a glass of port at the Solar do Vinho.
Or head to the Príncipe Real where you’ll found gay-friendly bars, galleries and a park with exotic plants.
Warm welcome from the hosts, appartment had everything we needed and very central location. Nope - could be too noisy for some (street musicians playing right under the window until late etc ) but we enjoyed the atmosphere of being in busy central area.
Location is close to main square in old part of town.
The apartment was lovely. Perfect for two people and very centrally located. The apartment manager was very helpful and friendly. There is a lot of action in Bairro Alto at nightime, so the street noise can be VERY loud... but if you can't beat them join them :-)
The manager and the maid were very concerned about our happiness and treated us wonderfully. We had a problem with the internet and they solved it. We mentioned that some light bulbs were out, and they were replaced immediately.
The apartment is in a great location, even if it is a bit noisy late at night. The glass doors and windows are well designed and all but eliminate the noise when closed. When opened, you really feel like you are part of the excitement on the street.
