Our Chesapeake Bay estate is located just outside Cambridge, a quaint maritime town filled with history and tucked away on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Travel through the countryside James Michener wrote about in 'Chesapeake.' It is the perfect getaway for boating, fishing, golfing, shopping, sightseeing, playing games and just relaxing with family, friends and all who want to have fun while playing and/or working! Our estate offers you an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Chesapeake Bay shoreline!!
There are miles of walking paths and our boat dock/ramp offers direct access to the bay for water sports. Our facilities offer lots of places to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings - a 10'x 60' screened in porch, where great bay breezes pass thru, that overlooks a fenced-in pool, pond and the Chesapeake Bay itself. There are unparalleled views from all 3 homes and especially from the 2nd floor deck. Here, you can watch the sun come up on 1 side of our world & later that evening see a breathtaking - 'stop what you're doing & watch' sunset go down into the bay!!
Wildlife abounds; the surroundings are picturesque. You can go boating, crabbing and fishing on-site. The Blackwater Wildlife Refuge is our neighbor and offers more paths (for walking, hiking, and biking) and waterways (for canoe and kayaking). Boats, canoes, kayaks and bikes can be rented locally. Want to dine out or need milk, wine, etc - there is a restaurant & a grocery store in the watermen's town of Fishing Creek, just 5 minutes down the road.
Our multi-complex estate has a Family Room and a Great Room in the Main House. There is also a 30' x 30' meeting/rec room in the Fun Center where 40+ people can sit together for meals and/or meetings! Find all the amenities you will need to make memories that last a lifetime. We have thought of everything, so you don't have to!! Come and enjoy all blessings that our estate has in store for you!! Marie & Perce look forward to hearing from YOU!!

RCR retreat is scenic, secluded and the perfect space for a group getaway. The game room kept everyone entertained and it provides space for people to play while others gather to socialize, cook, or eat. The pool is perfect for a lazy hot day and more active people can enjoy the water onsite for kayaks or other water sports. Runners and hikers have plenty of space to roam. Quite literally, fun for all!
In the past, we've done our annual choir retreats at places like camps and conference centers, and I was worried about having it at more of a vacation property. I shouldn't have worried -- the facilities were perfect for the 35 of us who came out for the weekend, and it was a wonderful opportunity for singing and bonding. Marie was helpful, the listing was accurate, and the place was clean and well cared for. We can't wait to go back when the Harriet Tubman museum has opened nearby. We only wished we could have spent more time exploring the area -- but we were there for singing, and sing we did!
We rented Ransome's Chesapeake Retreat for a family reunion. We had 20 adults and 15 children, ages 22 months thru 15. Everyone had a great time. The setting was great. There was lots of land to explore, crabs to be caught, wildlife to see, ships to watch, a screened in porch to sit and catch up, and a pool. The Fun Center was great for the kids. They even put together their own talent show and held the event In the fun center.
We did have some problems with the automatic pool vacuum, but the handyman, John answered our questions, stopped over, and got the pool repairman there first thing in the morning. Not many places have such a responsible and nice handyman. He was much appreciated.
When planning a reunion with so many people, it is hard to find a place where everyone gets a bed. This was the perfect place.
We all had a wonderful time in a beautiful setting. We would recommend this retreat for anyone planning a family reunion.
Setting is excellent. condition of the buildings & amenities overall fair at best-poor in important areas–dirty, aged, inadequate, safety concerns, poorly maintained, definitely not a “resort” type property. Advertising overblown. Apparent lack of interest in basic cleanliness, common sense maintenance, upgrading, pride of ownership. Doesn’t come close to being what is advertised–a family vacation resort.
Safety–smoke detectors–some missing, others non-functional-several hanging by the wires from ceiling.
Lights -bulbs missing or burned out; numerous switches don’t operate anything
Stairs to Fun Center loft steep; railing cannot be used for most part due to large book case against it.
Door to loft is approx 4 ft. high-no landing–very difficult and unsafe to enter /exit
Many nail heads protruding on screen porch floor and docks (we pounded a lot down).
Bridge over pond held together with nylon straps wrapped around some of the poles and decking.
Dirty – large dark dirt area on/hanging from kitchen ceiling over stove & sink–appears due to dirty AC filter–spreads out at least 18 in. & obvious been there a long time. Found in other areas also. Floors dirty, especially corners, under furniture; most carpets worn, stained. Refrigerators in dire need of good cleaning; unit in the Fun Center appears to be at end of useful life.
Poorly maintained. AC Main House insufficient, need cleaning, Cottage AC failed during our visit. Filter totally filthy
Pool -significant leak- area between the pool & dock is swamp–leaking long time. problem. Mattresses for most part old, sunken, stained, inadequate all aspects. Most furnishings are old, inadequate, dirty. Had to clean sofas, chairs, tables to use them. Most has not been moved for cleaning-lots of dirt and debris under them.
Most storm doors don’t close properly, sagging; some glass falling out.
Fun Center billed sleeping 12+ people. Has 6 small beds in loft. Very low ceiling, have to crawl under rafter beam to access half of area. Unfit for adults, hard for children to us. Beds in 2 bedrooms are metal bunks–bottom double, top single. Low ceiling makes using top bunk hard. Only 1 bath room to serve entire space. Similar bad beds other buildings. Houseboat is camper on barge on land -no motor. Cottage bathrooms small; downstairs looks like converted small closet; inadequate. More but ...
As it is we will never return and would never recommend this place to anyone. Sent full write-up to owner
Our family loved all the amenities the retreat has to offer: fishing, swimming, cooking marshmellows by the campfire, walking trails, playing yard games & indoor games, tennis, ping pong, pool table, & more more more....
My favorite part was that RCR estate is COMPLETELY PRIVATE!!! And of course the views are amazing!!!!!!
Marie & Percy were such a pleasure to work with. We are thankful to have had an amazing backdrop for our family reunion!!
Hugs & Blessings, Kim
When my extended family started looking for a place where we could all be together for an extended visit, the options were few and far between. We like to plan a group vacation every three years or so... but our group keeps expanding. We have three more little characters added to the role call since the last vacation, and during our week at Ransome's Chesapeake Retreat, we heard news of a new arrival coming by the end of this year!
We were particularly excited to have a separate bedroom for all our families while still being able to use the Main House kitchen to feed everyone.
Days were mostly spent lounging on the screened in porch in the shade enjoying the breeze with a jigsaw puzzle overlooking and talking with anyone who was floating in the pool. But, we are also an active bunch! We rented kayaks and had a rotating schedule of boaters, one of the teenagers hosted a tennis clinic for the younger kids on the tennis court (maybe not a regulation court, but it did the trick), and we enjoyed the bean bag game provided in the game shed. We even caught a few crabs in the traps at the dock.
The nearest town of Cambridge is a bit of a hike (30 mins?), but we found ourselves there almost daily for groceries, or other odds and ends. We were able to find very efficient and responsive medical care when the baby spiked a fever one night. We also traveled to the bird sanctuary trail for a bike ride and over to Hoopers Island for dinner at Old Salty's on our last night together.
Prior to our rental week, the Ransomes were simply a phone call away to answer any question a member of the family had. They gave us a great recommendation for a chartered fishing tour. Once we arrived, they were equally attentive to meet our every need. When the wifi needed to be reset, they helped right away. Thanks, Marie and Percy for all your help!
