Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in California

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.25 Baths, (Sleeps 3-6)

Just 7 miles from the town of 29 Palms and the east entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. 360 degree views amid the peace and quiet, beauty and wonder. Perry created a stimulating yet restful desert environment where indoor and outdoor osmosis expands your exposure to the desert he loves. Simple design mixed with intricate patterns excite the eye. Touches of luxury, whimsy, and function make the visitor feel safe but also adventurous. Begin to sense the quiet.

The Tile House sits in the middle of the vast and open desert. You need not walk two feet to be a part of the wilderness, now it is up to you to look around both micro and macro and see what you can see here. Jack Rabbits, Cottontails, Ravens, Scorpions, Desert Iguana, Snakes, Gambel’s Quail, Lesser Night Hawks, Owls, Coyotes, Roadrunners, Sphinx Moths and Kangaroo Rats, flash floods, dust devils, lightening storms, sunsets, summer rains, empty roads, wildflowers and cacti are some of things you might happen to see. So see what you can see. Walk gently in nature. At night, absorb the clear starry skies and August and November meteor showers.

Cradled inside an inspiring work of art you find yourself situated in complete silence, watching the desert light crawl across the vast and intricate landscape around you.

You are ironically completely alone in the middle of nowhere and the center of the universe.

This is the home oƒ artist, Perry Hoffman… however, when not in use it is available as a vacation rental of the most unusual kind. This wilderness home is a treasure trove and visual ƒeast for the eyes.

An indoor Buddha fountain sets a perfect tone for meditation. A two bedroom house with outdoor hot tub and gated courtyard with firepit. iPod dock with speakers. Laundry facility on site. Fireplace and Pellet Stove. A dog-door for your pet to access a fenced and secure yard. Great for large get togethers or a romantic get a way. SL€€PS six

About The Owner

I am an artist currently living in both Santa Barbara and Wonder Valley. The beauty of the desert brought me to the area. I have photographed extensively over the last ten years. I am also a mosaic artist and have been creating the Tile House, a ten year project. The house is full of whimsy and tile, comfy and welcoming. The outside is a wilderness of OPEN desert that holds beauty every day as the sun sets and rises over this BIG sky and expansive place.

The mountains to the south are Joshua Tree National Park and is easily accessible, only 7 miles away form the headQuarters and entrance.

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

The property was a mix of art, spiritual and dessert retreat. The house had so much to look at we spent most of the morning looking at the exterior while enjoying a cup of coffee.

The property direction provided are spot on so follow it as close as you can. There isn't much out there for markers otherwise to find the house. Fortunately the Christmas Lights helped the little house stand out as late as we arrived. The beds were oh so comfy. The scent of oils, herbs and sage filled the home and relaxed you to sleep. It is a lot larger than the images on the website make it out to be. No actual "doors" for the bedrooms but that didn't bother us at all.

House was very clean except for a little sandy feeling on the floor but to be expected with the wind gusting 30mph the night before.

Owners were very quick to answer questions we had via email and followed up the next day to make sure we were happy with the stay.

We will be back for sure. It's booked out pretty well in advance so don't hesitate if you are interested. We wanted to book for a few weeks out but found it already taken. We may wait till winter time to enjoy the dessert in a different season.

Treasure Trove

  • 4 of 5

Staying at the tile house was wonderful. The beds were very comfortable, and we all slept well. There is an endless sense of discovery, beginning with the tile, and stretching out into other art work, books, and the desert beyond. We arrived at dusk, and finding things like light switches was something of a treasure hunt. Ultimately we figured out all the workings of the house, and found it fun and entertaining along the way. As is everything in life, it was all about having the right state of mind...The hot tub was awesome, saw several shooting stars. Wish we would have stayed longer, we felt very at home. Thank you!

What a Fun Place!

  • 5 of 5

My husband I stayed for 2 nights and, once we got there, wished that we would have booked a longer stay. This is such a great property! The house is incredibly eclectic, cozy, and inspiring. Everywhere you look you find something that you previously missed. The kitchen is well stocked, the bed is comfortable, and the pellet stove kept us nice and warm during the chilly nights. The hot tub and fire pit were also welcome additions and made stargazing all the more pleasant. The location into town and Joshua Tree NP were ideal and the drive through the Mojave from Las Vegas (about 3.5 hours) was a fun adventure. We can't wait to return again to completely unplug, enjoy the quiet, and see what other fun additions Perry makes to the property!

Magical and romantic love palace

  • 5 of 5

A spectacular spot within 12 miles of Joshua Tree. Definitely not for the OCD, the entire place is a work of art. It's easy to misplace things because it is so visually intense and stimulating. Well equipped and homey, the Tile House is a bit out of the way if you are looking for night life but why leave if you have everything you need and your sweetie and your dogs? All you need are a few breath taking walks in J Tree in the afternoon and dusk. Bring all the groceries you need because there are slim pickings nearby. Perry has a well stocked kitchen for the random bits like spices that are easy to forget. As with all vacation rentals, bring a good chef's knife with you. We were happy to have slippers for the concrete floors in November but it would feel great in spring and summer. Lots going in in the house like books and art and hot tub and meditation gypsy trailer and views to weep over but no TV (yay). We hope to be back! Thanks, Perry!

Beautiful, Inviting Space

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I rented the Tile House for a New Year retreat. We wanted a secluded, inviting space close to the park but miles away from civilization. From the second we pulled into the driveway, we were blown away by the property. The house and the area surrounding it are a work of art... and that doesn't even begin to do it justice. Every piece of tile, every found object has been carefully placed and arranged with the surrounding objects to form a playful landscape of color and wonder. My friends and I felt as if we were on a constant journey of discovery, as every time we looked at a particular room or wall we would notice another detail that we had overlooked before... maybe it's the tiny rabbit's head peeking up from the floor, maybe it's the hand holding the lights in the courtyard, maybe it's the bowling ball supporting the charger for the lights in the yard, maybe it's the tentacles extending up the posts on the kitchen stools... everywhere you turn in the Tile House, there is something waiting to greet you.

Artists, entertainers, creative types, and those who respond strongly to color and texture will be right at home in this space.

The kitchen is well-suited for cooking elaborate and tasty meals; the hot tub is perfect for stargazing in the chilly evenings; the wood pellet stove in the living room lends a cheery ambiance to late-night card games, reading, and comraderie; the large surrounding property is great for early morning wildlife sighting (jackrabbits, roadrunners, small birds); the buddha fountain in the center of the house is ideal for morning meditation; and the peace and quiet of the secluded desert is perfect for quieting a busy, overstimulated mind.

Last but not least, the owner, Perry, is as gracious and welcoming a host as you could ever hope to find.
