Amazing Home, Amazing Location & an Amazing Host

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 3 days and it was a perfect home away from home. We reached late at night and were welcomed with delicious wine and cookies. Since we were reaching late during a cold night, Helena was thoughtful to turn the heater on before we got there. The house was spotless clean and was equipped with every small necessity. The room has a spectacular view of the Lauterbrunnen valley. The house is conveniently located about 7 mins walk from the Lauterbrunnen station.

Helena was very helpful right from the start and answered all our queries even before we booked the stay. Once there, she gave us tips on what would be the best places for us to see, transport and food.

Initially in a dilemma whether to stay in Wengen/ Murren or Lauterbrunnen, we realised that staying in Lauterbrunnen was the best decision(kind of the center to everything).

This was the most luxurious stay in the most heavenly place. Can't wait to visit it again. Would highly recommend the apartment to anyone visiting Berner Oberland area.

Superb Swiss Chalet

  • 5 of 5

After many years of holidays in the Lauterbrunnen Valley we have finally found the perfect accommodation. This traditional Swiss chalet really felt like a home from home. It is warm and cosy with its own log burner and an ample supply of logs. Outside it has it's own parking space and lovely seating area with extensive views of snow covered mountains. There is direct access onto footpaths into Lauterbrunnen and up to Wengen.

Helena is just lovely, nothing is too much trouble and the personal touches in the chalet constantly surprised and delighted us. She clearly takes immense pride in wanting your stay to be as perfect as possible. She even went to the trouble of lighting the log burner 15mins before our arrival, what a nice surprise!

We cannot praise highly enough the Lauterbrunnen Valley , the chalet or Helena and cannot wait to return in 2018.

Helena and Family were very welcoming and helpful. The apartment is top notch, with stunning views right from the front door. Very clean and nicely furnished (my wife even went to ikea after this trip to pick up some things she liked in the apartment!). We would strongly recommend to anyone wishing to explore this area of Switzerland. Get a Jungfrau pass to maximize usage of trains and lifts up the mountains (some of these were not 100% covered in the general swiss travel pass).

Excellent, would highly recommend.

I cannot say enough great things about this wonderful chalet. Three of us stayed for a week and everything was perfect. A great starting point to many of the great hikes in the area and close enough to town to run to the shops. The bedroom was extremely comfortable and the queen size pull-out was not a regular pull-out, it was very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need. The location is picturesque and very, very quiet. Helena and her family are so welcoming and absolutely wonderful.

The Wonderful 'Retreat'

  • 5 of 5

Returning to Lauterbrunnen to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary I jokingly said that we had fallen in love with Switzerland. Being just the two of us this year, we chose to stay at The Retreat instead of the Francis apartment on the other side of the town. The views were equally impressive and we were still able to survey scenery which was spectacular but also somehow serene. Inside, the accommodation was comfortable, well-appointed and fastidiously clean. Helena and the family extended a very warm welcome to us but ensured that we had our privacy too.

As before, we invested in a Bernese Oberland regional pass which made travel by train, cable car, gondola and boats on the lakes particularly easy and gave us quick access to the mountains where the majesty of the landscape was fully revealed. All that on our doorstep, but yet we also felt that in Lauterbrunnen we were visiting a 'real' community.

This is a place that weaves a spell on you, so ... until the next time!

Beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

Our children loved this place! The chalet is very clean and was spacious enough for our family of 4 (including 2 young kids). Both the bed and sofabed were comfortable while the kitchen was well equipped and had basic cooking ingredients plus coffee and tea. We cooked dinner every night during our stay there. Helena promptly responded to all our emails prior to our arrival and was quick to help when we had a bit of an emergency there. You couldn't ask for a better host.

This chalet is on a little hill that took our 7 year old about 15-20 minutes (including a couple of rest stops for her) to walk up from the train station. The chalet was really quiet at night and away from the crowds on the main street which made our stay there even more authentic.

Why Helena Francis chose Lauterbrunnen

We recently got this house and we very happy here. The chalet is a ECO friendly made property called by the locals the 'Chalet Terra'. This apartment is what we called 'The retreat' because is located in a very quiet area away from the centre of the village, although is still at walking distance from everything. From the bedroom and living area we can see the main road from the village, the mountains and the water falls that surrounds us. We recently renovated the apartment and is now ready to welcome guests.

What makes this apartment unique

The best benefit of our apartment is by far the fact of it quietness and peaceful location.
