About the property

Truffle Cottage - a cottage that sleeps 3 guests in 2 bedrooms

Truffle Cottage is a small but really characterful cottage set just a short distance to the north of Chichester city centre. It is one of the oldest houses in the area and is so called as it used to be the home of a truffler who "hunted" truffles in the old woods at nearby Goodwood. It is a ideal for a couple or for friends to share as a base to explore Chichester and the local region.

The cottage has a cosy sitting room with TV/DVD. This is semi-open to the dining room, with a dining table that can easily seat up to 4 people. There is a galley style kitchen which offers an oven and hob, microwave, fridge and all the cooking equipment needed to be able to comfortably self-cater. There is also a further fridge and a freezer in the garage to the cottage, along with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

Also on the ground floor is a bedroom with a 4ft bed. The stylish shower room to the cottage is a little touch of modern luxury in this historic property.

A wooden staircase leads to the bedroom and dressing area on the first floor. This offers a large double bed (Please note, the staircase to the first floor is fairly steep with narrow steps, so may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues).

Outside, the cottage has a small front garden, as well as a decked area at the back of the cottage, which makes a peaceful spot to quietly sit and have a evening drink on a summer's day. There is a gravelled driveway that provides off road parking for guests.

Noisy traffic

  • 1 of 5

The roadway immediately outside the cottage detracted from what should have been a peaceful visit. The cottage itself was pleasant but dark and we were unable to to admit light through the front windows due to there being no curtains, only wooden shutters throughout. None of these fitted properly. The sofa was uncomfortable in a room with absolutely no natural light unless the door was open to the elements. The house was not as well cleaned as expected on arrival with spiders and dust prevalent. The kitchen was not as well equipped as we were led to believe having only one saucepan with a lid and a frying pan which was a disgrace and had to be scrubbed before use. Access for a car was difficult due to the excessive speed of traffic despite a 30 mph limit. Heavy lorries in particular causing much disturbance 24/7. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were unsubstantial.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review Truffle Cottage, we are sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay at Truffle Cottage. Truffle Cottage is a Toll Gatehouse built around 1830, part of its a charm is from the original features including the small windows. There is plenty of lighting in the property as the owner has added extra lighting for this reason. Being located close to the city of Chichester and within walking distance of both the town and theatre there is an increased traffic flow. We do welcome feedback to help improve stays at Truffle Cottage and we have forwarded your comments on to the owner.
