About Gigi Sudbury
Hodie and I live in South West Dorset, the heart of Thomas Hardy country. We live with three children, dogs, cats, llamas, chickens and ducks! The children learn autonomously through home schooling. I am an artist painter and Hodie is a film and TV construction manager.
Gigi Sudbury purchased this House in 2003
Why Gigi Sudbury chose Lecrín
The Valle de Lecrin is a beautiful and unspoilt area of Andalusia. There is so much to see and do on the doorstep. Oranges, lemons, olives, almonds grow on the hillsides and in the groves around the village. You can go out and be really active or sit back and watch the world go by at a wonderful easy pace. We go there to loose a sense of time and dream.
What makes this House unique
The house is unspoilt with it's old wooden doors, little shuttered windows, low beams, arched doorways and uneven plastered walls. Here we feel an unrivalled sense of peace. The children can explore the village without us worrying, or buy the bread and croissant delivered twice a day by the bread man who honks his horn as he drives down the village. It is our little bolt hole away from a world timed by the clock and the pressures of everyday life.

Wonderful Peaceful Retreat
Rustic charm in the heart of Andalusia... a great place to relax and unwind. A well equipped kitchen (cooks delight!) and lots of great outdoor space. Fab interior of Moorish decor and a sprinkle of pure magic. Welcoming and friendly village community a real bonus! Fantastic location with super motorway for fast access to Malaga airport, beaches and Granada. A must for those who seek authentic Spanish experience...a special place to be ....a hidden gem...thanks again Gigi :)
We Didn't Want to Leave!
I'm not sure I want everyone to know about La Palomita but I am going to be very good and give it the review it deserves!
Circumstances meant we'd been unable to travel much with our two daughters of 14 and 7 up until now. Making up for lost time, this spring we decided that a first trip to Spain for any of us would encourage the girls with their Spanish.
I really wanted to avoid mass tourism and had a dream of Spain and Andalucia in particular that I feared reality couldn't match up to - particularly on our limited budget. When I was despairing of finding the place that suited us all at a price we could afford, La Palomita popped up out of a random search. Was it really this price I enquired? Yes it was!
Gigi Sudbury, the owner, is that rare type of very interesting person who is genuinely interested in others and exceedingly kind . Both her and Gym, her friend, fellow artist and property manager ( who renovated and used to own La Palomita) dealt with our chaotic travel hiccups very patiently on the night we arrived. In the morning a busy Gym, who unfortunately had very little sleep due to us, found the time to bring some delicious jam, milk and butter and even ran after the bread van for us!
La Palomita is like an artist's dream of Andalucia, with all of it's shades, colours, textures and spaces. No object is out of place and being in La Palomita is like living in a beautiful work of art, but with intense comfort in the essentials. The beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The girls loved all of the courtyards, the roof terrace and the nooks and crannies. Every day we saw something new we hadn't noticed before. The changing light is lovely in the interiors and courtyards.
It is the most ideal destination for a family that are new to Spain and car hire, want to be away from the hurly burly and yet get into it easily whenever they want. Chite is a very short 5/10 minute walk along a panoramic pavement from the bigger Lecrin. From Malaga airport drive up motorway, turn left at Motril and then left again to Chite. In an hour and a quarter from the airport you are in the peaceful, friendly surroundings of the village looking over to the Sierra Nevada mountains. If you aren't confident to drive up the narrow street La Palomita is on, just park in the wider street towards the main road. There is always a space and the walk to the house is short and pleasant. We can't wait to go back.
Lovely space to relax in .
The house is cosy and has so many different spaces to relax in. We were there in late Autumn, and had cosy open fires most nights, with the thanks to Gym we had a good supply of firewood and the surrounding hills provided a good supply of pine cones to help get the fire started.
We had heard from our manager Gym what wonderful guests you were. I love the fact that you have explored the area on your bikes. Come back whenever you wish!
Gigi and Hodie
Authentic cottage very functional and so beautiful
We spent one week in the Gigi's cottage with our 3 children.
Our stay was highly pleasant : Chite is a wonderful town very typical with all these white houses and strait streets.
The Gigi's cottage is lovely : very beautiful, very clean, well decorated and very functional. We have been welcomed by Gigi's friend : Gym who is a very pleasant person who is a great artist : she has a painting gallery and a shop with plenty of vintage objects and clothes that everyone must see !
Well today we still have the head full of really plesant memories of our stay in Chite.
We recommend everyone to go in this wonderful cottage !
Damien was a lovely guest to communicate with and we hope he comes back.

We are very glad you enjoyed your stay. We think our house has a very special atmosphere; one that is hard to find on a holiday let and you have appreciated it. Thank you for your review and you are welcome back any time.
La Palomita is perfectly placed for lots of different activities. Walking, riding, cycling on your doorstep. Granada City with the famous Alhambra Palace, gypsy quarter, restaurants, bars, flamenco, tapas, museums, flee markets and much more, is 30 minutes. Skiing in the Sierra Nevada is 45 minutes away. Mountain villages and spa towns all around and in the nearby Alpujarras. Beautiful beaches of the Costa Tropical 35 minutes away. In Chite itself there is a very special shop selling clothes and furniture and home decorations. Wednesday market in nearby Durcal.
