Location: We are in one of the most easterly and most beautiful parts of the French Alps, nestled on the side of the mountain just off the D902 between Bourg St Maurice and Val d'Isere. Our nearest airports, Chambery, Grenoble, Lyon and Geneva are about 2-3 hours drive away. In winter there is a direct Eurostar service from Waterloo to our nearest station at Bourg St Maurice, about 15 min drive away. With pre-booking we have a minibus available for local transport or airport transfers at a reasonable charge.
The Bubble House is a charming, traditional stone-built village house close to the Auberge sur la Montagne. It has been entirely re-decorated and furnished with a delightful mix of the traditional and modern to make a cosy hideaway for two.
In the winter and summer seasons, it is available either as an 'annex' to the Auberge with breakfast being taken either at the chalet or at the Auberge and afternoon tea and evening meals being taken at the Auberge (see Auberge page for details of meals provided) plus daily maid service, or on a self-catered basis when cleaning is only included at the end of your stay. At other times it is available on a self-catered basis only.
We are Sue & Andy MacInnes and we have lived in Sainte Foy since buying the Auberge sur la Montagne in 1995. We met at Bath Uni where we both obtained a degree in Business Administration. Our love of skiing first brought us to the French Alps, but we now love the summers here just as much. We have been maanging properties for other owners in Sainte Foy since 2003.
Sue MacInnes purchased this chalet in 1995
The Auberge sur la Montagne was built in 1975 for a successful local restaurateur. He used original materials from two derelict 17th century barns that still stand about 500 metres away from the current site. The bar ceiling is constructed from the floor of the barn and the stone wall in the restaurant is clad in original stone from the barns. He ran it for 5 years and sold up in 1980 to a 60+ year old American lady who had been brought up in Paris during WW2 and wanted to return to France, Since buying the Auberge in 1995 we have lovingly restored it to its present rustic splendour and have been running it as a catered chalet ever since.
The Auberge sur la Montagne has stunning views of the surrounding mountains and is situated in a peaceful corner surrounded by fields, yet easily accessible to the mountain resorts of Val d’Isère, Tignes, Les Arcs and La Rosière as well as Sainte Foy Tarentaise. It boasts a state-of-the-art outdoor hot-tub and sauna.
All the staff we met were fantastic and gave the impression that they genuinely cared about your stay and making it as memorable as possible.
The ski's we hired were great and a reasonable price
- Great location
- We both loved the kitchen area which was well equipped and comfortable for a small space.
- The negative was the shower situation, which while there isn't much scope to address the ceiling height (a seat attached to the wall?) was uncomfortable and made showers a battle rather than relaxing at the end of a days skiing. (There is a bath too though).
We stayed at the Bubble House for 3 nights on our 3 week honeymoon tour of France in May. The house has everything you need in quiet cosy setting with fantastic views of the mountains from your bed. There are lots of well sign posted walking & running trails nearby we had a great time.
We found the Bubble to be most appealing and comfortable. In an Excellent location with tremendous views,
Lots to do in the local area which is most characterful.
The meals at the Auberge were superb. The atmosphere most friendly and cosy.
All the the staff were most welcoming, efficient and attentive to all our needs.
We highly recommend the facilities, and the area, to families and snow enthusiasts alike. The area would also make for excellent walking through all the non - snow seasons.
Thank you Auberge sur la Montagne for a wonderful holiday.
Mick & Sue Clark
We stayed in The Bubble during the week of the best snow for thirty years. St Foy is great with endless off piste although the house is not in the resort, it is a 15min drive away which is a problem if you want to drink in the resort after skiing.
The house itself is beautifully furnished and very cosy with everything you need for a weeks stay. The view of the mountains from the bed is very special.
Unfortunately, the bathroom door handle kept falling off, as did the shower curtain and the shower itself is located under a slanted roof so you cannot stand up even if you are 5f 4" like me. Also, being half submerged, the bottom floor is as cold as a cave and required full blast heating at all times.
We were looked after by the management but also left in peace. Overall the Bubble House is a magical place to stay but we felt a few touch ups could have improved it.
We are nestled on the side of the mountain at 1300 metres altitude between Bourg St. Maurice and Val d’Isère in the Tarentaise valley in the French Alps. We are ideally placed for winter ski holidays in the nearby resorts of Sainte Foy Tarentaise, Val d'Isere, Tignes, Les Arcs and La Rosiere and for walking holidays, cycling holidays and mountain biking in the summer. The stunning flora and fauna of the Vanoise National Park is just a short drive away. We are a comfortable 10-hour drive from the Channel. If you prefer to fly, Geneva and Lyon airports are 3 hours away, Grenoble 2½ hours and Chambery 2 hours. All airports are served by one of the low cost airlines. Eurostar runs direct services from Waterloo or Ashford to Bourg St Maurice during the winter.
Other Activities: white water rafting, canoeing, hydro speeding, climbing, dog sledding
