Sleeps 4. Luxury 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment on clifftop at Hallsands.

Five, Prospect House is a self-catering luxury apartment, sleeping four in two bedrooms. Situated in a unique and peaceful location on top of cliffs overlooking Start Bay, between Salcombe and Dartmouth. Purpose-supplied furnishings and contents for a prestige holiday let. Consistently furnished in a New England theme with high-quality products throughout. Awarded 4* Gold by Visit England, you are assured of a high quality, comfortable stay.

Children and babies are welcome (high chair, cot and steam steriliser provided).

Expansive views across the whole of Start Bay, from Start Point lighthouse to Mewstone Rock off Dartmouth, and probably the best wide view in Devon. Ideally situated between Salcombe and Dartmouth, with easy access to coastal walks, beaches, sailing, and surfing. There is a heated swimming pool (May-Sept only) and tennis court (all year).

An ideal location for a family holiday or a romantic break for two, Five offers a comfortable relaxed living space, with high-quality entertainment systems (Sky HD, DAB radio, iPod dock, two flatscreen tv's, wifi), that ever-changing view, yet within easy reach of local pubs, restaurants, and a huge variety of outdoor activities.

Beaches: There is a beach less than 2 minutes walk from the apartment, reached via a gently rising and falling path. The popular beaches of Lannacombe and the quieter but no less beautiful Mattescombe are less than five minutes by car, whilst Slapton Sands and Blackpool beach are less than fifteen minutes away, and there are dozens of other beaches, inlets and rias to explore nearby - Mill Bay as well as the usually more crowded North and South Sands beaches in Salcombe are recommended.This variety of locations allows you skim stones, build sandcastles, explore rock pools, swim either alone or with lifeguards around (in season), and you can usually find a sheltered location no matter what the wind direction.

Walking: The South Coast coastal path runs directly outside Prospect House, making it an ideal base for walking the cliff-tops and seashore. A forty minute walk talks you to the Start Point lighthouse, whilst less time in the other direction takes you past North Hallsands beach and brings you to The Cricket Inn, a pub serving excellent food at Slapton Sands. There is also a children's park and playground for them to run off any more energy, and the best seafood shack in Devon, with bring-your-own drinks and fresh catch of the day.

Local Towns: Salcombe and Dartmouth are the two main tourist towns nearby, both about 20 minutes by car, offering all amenities and activities. Kingsbride is the town closest by car, and there are numerous villages, most with highly agreeable pubs, spread over the area.

Ornithology/bird-watching: as well as the sea birds soaring on the up draughts along the cliff edge, Slapton Ley, very nearby, offers some excellent brackish water wetland bird-watching.

Horse-riding/mountain biking: as well as the local lanes, there is excellent riding on Dartmoor under an hour away.

Fishing: sea fishing trips go from Dartmouth and Salcombe, with some good river fishing in a variety of waters from Dartmoor southwards.

Astronomy: the coast offers some of the clearest skies in Britain, and, away from the flick of the lighthouse beam, there is no light pollution, so you get dramatic views of the stars and planets.

Recommended Pubs: The Cricket Inn is the closest pub, easily reachable by car or via a picturesque walk along the coast (25 minutes of undulating cliff-top path with great views and wild flowers: a torch for the return journey is recommended if it's after dusk). It serves a wide range of predominantly seafood-based dishes, good beer, and has a friendly atmosphere and staff.

The Pig's Nose, at East Prawle, is also close by, and is renowned for its friendly (and child-friendly) atmosphere, excellent events, and hearty food.

As a family, we have been sailing and holidaying in this area for many years, enjoying the friendliness of the locals, the fresh air, sea and beaches. We hope that you'll enjoy it as much as we do.

We first explored this coastline from the sea, sailing along it, and fell in love with it. With small children, sailing has diminished, and so when we found this with the great sea views, it was the place for us.

What makes this apartment unique

Winter walks on deserted beaches; summer sun and ice creams; freshest lobster on the planet; that view; tennis, swimming on site; mountain biking, walking, moors and wilderness all nearby. Great markets, interesting shops, and a local feel and culture all its own.

Great quiet location with the most amazing views!

Had a short family break here. The flat is in a great location with amazing views of the sea and lighthouse. The flat is a good size and had everything we could have needed. We had some fab walks to Start Point and Mattiscombe sands. A short drive to Dartmouth on a couple of days and Hope Cove. We even ventured further into Cornwall to the Eden project (1hr 40 from the house). Overall fantastic peaceful stay...highly recommended!

I agree that the trip to Eden is worthwhile, too - as is Plymouth on the way, with the River Cottage Cafe and a great public swimming pool, and the aquarium. Hope we see you again!

Great views and history.

The drive to the property is down some typical narrow country Devon lanes but if you take your time it's fine and the location is worth it. The house that the apartment is in is gorgeous. The apartment itself is very comfortable, light bright and airy. We experienced a strong wind while there but the apartment was well insulated so we could enjoy the sea waves from indoors. It's a great place for walkers as the coastal path is right on the doorstep. The history of Hallsands was well worth reading; interesting and moving. We got in contact with Russell (the owner) at the beginning and end of the holiday just to for information really and he replied very promptly. The nearby villages are all worth visiting. A really great place to take a relaxing break - thank you.

Stunning place to stay

Beautiful, well equipped flat in a truly stunning location with a very interesting history. Great place to stay to explore the local area. Fabulous pub within walking distance (you'll need to book during busy period) and a great pool (not too cold! Even I went in!) and tennis court so you don't have to venture out by car if you choose not to. A lovely pebble beach close to property which is very calm for swimming (beach shoes helpful for pebbles). A very much enjoyed holiday by all of the family. Thank you!

A beautiful property with every comfort for an enjoyable stay. Fantastic location .Lovely touch to arrive to a selection of goodies .Wine very nice .I find nothing negative to say about our stay .We saw dolphins and seals .

A beautiful bijoux property in a stunning location that is equipped with everything you could need

Beautiful little place, spotlessly clean and exceptionally comfortable. Stunning views, out of this world sunset potential from the comfort of the lounge with a g&t in hand.

Prefect for couples and small families alike. Toddler friendly without losing any grown-up's only appeal.

The softest bedding and most comfortable bed we've slept in for a while. What a great find!

Prospect House is located above the historic ruined village of Hallsands, perched right at the foot of the South coast, overlooking the channel to France. It is easily reached via the M5 and A38. It is roughly equidistant from the picturesque coastal towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe (approximately 20 minutes by car), with major centres like Plymouth, Exeter and Dartmoor within easy reach.

There are 4 beds for adults in the proper - two babies/very young children in cots can also be accommodated, if you wish - though it's a squeeze to get the cots into the rooms, it is possible.

In low season only, the linen charge is separate and can be waived if you bring own bed linen and towels.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
