Our recently built home sits on one of the most beautiful locations on the island. It was featured in a Wall Street Journal article last fall, and several of the photos are generously shared by their photographer. The house has an open floor plan facing south and west. Located in the village of Sunset, every room has a water view across Southwest Harbor to Sheephead Island and beyond to North Haven, Vinalhaven, Penobscot Bay, Eagle Island, and the Camden Hills. There is easy access for kayaking or hiking, with a remarkable island-to-island walk to Sheephead out your front door. Built to thoughtful green standards, there is solar hot water and solar electricity, tied to the grid with a generator backup.
More suitable for adults than children, there is custom cabinetry throughout, a grand piano, designer lighting, and a gourmet kitchen. The TV is on a lift. A woodwaiter delivers firewood from below. The sound system is excellent. A study faces the ocean. There are two bedrooms with elegant bathrooms and a half-bath downstairs with a glass door to the private outdoor shower, which faces the cutting gardens.
Outdoors, there are front and back decks for changing weather and time of day. Beautiful landscaping with cutting gardens, granite walls, and lawns to the water. There is a small parking area nearby where people come for birding and dog walking out to the islands and where a part-time lobster fisherman moors his boat, happy to sell you lobsters most evenings.
