Luxury Gite with Heated Swimming Pool in the Charente-Maritime

Bedrooms 2
Space 753 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Two bedroom property totalling 70 m2 over two floors with 300 m2 of garden

Our holiday cottage has been lovingly created with a desire to give our guests a comfortable vacation so memorable that they will return year after year.

The overall living space is around 70 square metres over two floors.

Downstairs is the beautiful living / kitchen area complete with CD sound system, DVD player, 80 cm HD flat screen TV, electric cooker and hob, microwave, washing machine, toaster, kettle, fridge/freezer, iron and ironing board. A wii fit is provided as well as a number of books, CD's, DVD's and games.

The cottage also benefits from free WiFi / Internet access.

Upstairs we have two bedrooms, one is a double and the other has two single beds. Both rooms have ample storage spaces for clothes and other personal belongings. Completing the upstairs is the bathroom with toilet, washbasin and a power shower.

For families of more than four we have a number of options, with a double sofa bed available downstairs in the property, we can also put into the property an additional single bed.

For very young children we have a number of cuddly toys we can provide as well as a high chair.

The outside space around the cottage totals around 300 square metres, included in this to the front is a covered outdoor eating area complete with barbeque, to the side of the property is a hard standing area to be used for late evening meals and drinks, facing west, taking in the end of the day sunshine and stunning views of the village.

Around the cottage there is plenty of space for parking your car, and setting up your sun loungers whilst the children play safely at the rear of the cottage or on the field above the main house.

The cottage, main house, heated pool and garden occupies a total land area of 2,000 square metres.

Above the main house is the main garden and heated swimming pool (shared with owners), a fresh water pool of 9 metres x 4 metres x 1.5 metres deep and available from around nine in the morning until late at night (from around the end of April until early October). The heated pool is fully alarmed to comply with regulations.

Various loungers, chairs, tables, umbrellas, water floats, balls are available for use around the pool.

The house is south facing, so the sun rises to the left side of the property (above the pool) and by mid morning the entire property is bathed in sunshine. You can then watch the sun setting to the right front of the cottage late at night.

2014 is our first year of renting out the cottage, our guests this year we now consider as firm friends, please visit our guestbook for full reviews, but we have listed below a couple of their comments;

Thank you so much Stuart and Alison for making our holiday so amazing. The Gite was beautiful, comfortable and spacious for Four adults and Two children

We can't believe how lucky we were to find your gite on the internet - it was everything we wanted. The four of us didn't want to leave such an idyllic place. Alison, Stewart and Shannon were so kind and helpful and great fun! They recommended places to go to and even lent us a map to make sure we arrived safely. there are not many owners who on finding we hadn't eaten when we arrived late and all the shops were shut, would bring round ingredients out of their own kitchen we could make omelettes to enjoy. Thank you so much

About Stewart Boak

My name is Stewart and with my wife Alison we made the permanent move to France early 2014 from the North East of England.

Stewart Boak purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Stewart Boak chose Lozay

We bought our home as it perfectly matched our desires to live in a village in this part of France with excellent access to all that we require. Having spent all our lives living and working in the city we wanted to change in pace of life and time to enjoy life. The location of the property is perfect and we sit outside each night sitting in awe at the beautiful place we own, with such stunning views, the beautiful location and with the village people making us more welcome than we could ever have dreamed.

What makes this cottage unique

If you wish to get away from it all for a quiet vacation this this is for you. Relaxing around your holiday cottage in your garden, spending time around our swimming pool or in the garden and all ten minutes from a major town that has everything you need and more.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We were looking for a holiday in a peaceful setting with plenty of outdoor space to relax in the sun and do some cycling. We also wanted to visit La Rochelle and Ile de Re. La Miellerie ticked all the boxes. The Gite is very well placed for the local cycle paths which are safe and traffic free. Even in October the weather was warm enough to sit by the amazing pool and enjoy uninterrupted rural views. It is a fantastic place to unwind and discover this lovely area of France and Stewart and Alison are the perfect hosts.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for the review, it was lovely to meet you all. Again sorry that the weather was poor and that you did not get to make full use of the heated pool. We are obviously concerned as to why you only scored our gite 3 out of 5 when other reviews we have had on our own website and other holiday let platforms in general score us 5 out of 5. Please let us know what was missing and what we can improve for the future.

mooi huisje in rustige omgeving, prachtige tuin met heerlijk zwembad

  • 5 of 5

Our village of Lozay is a rural municipality in the canton of Loulay, with 150 inhabitants and is located 3 km from the capital of the canton. The town enjoys a privileged location, close to both the sea (La Rochelle, Royan and the islands of Ré, Aix and Oléron), but also to cities of art and history (Saintes, Rochefort) and the Cognac region. The heritage village has a fortified 12th century church listed as a historical monument and several lavoirs to discover (Basse Rues, Puy Bardon, Blouc).

Close to Lozay is the Jardin de Sculptures, the Romane Sculpture Gardens, it is also a rest area on the A10. The Gardens are a fabulous outdoor museum presenting an exciting journey of the most beautiful saintongeaise sculpture. Very pleasant walks can be taken in the Essouvert woods that lie 1.5 km outside the village.

Loulay is located about 56 km east of La Rochelle and 35 km south of Niort and lies on a hill 55 meters above where the Trézence (tributary of the Boutonne) rises. The Gateway of Saintonge, after the great plain of Niort, Loulay has always been a resting place for travellers and many who have rested have returned over and over again. The main route into Loulay is the RD 150 which runs parallel to the A10 Autoroute and SNCF railway from Niort to St Jean D'Angely. Loulay is primarily a rural center with small shops and services essential to daily life as well as the weekly Friday market.

After ten minutes drive you will find Saint-Jean D'Angely which is now home to a vibrant and bustling town centre, with a twice-weekly market (on Saturdays and Wednesdays). There is also a swimming and fitness centre, Atlantys. The Centre of European Culture at Saint-Jean-d'Angély, created in 1989 as a joint initiative taken by the Minister of Culture, the town of Saint-Jean-d'Angély, the regional council of Poitou-Charentes and the council of Charente Maritime, has hosted multinational sessions focused on European culture and citizenship that are dedicated to youngsters sixteen to nineteen years, coming from all European countries. Most striking as you approach the town from all directions is the Royal Abbey. Founded in the ninth century to house a relic of Saint John the Baptist, and rebuilt in the 14th, 17th and 18th centuries because of repeated destruction, then later abandoned, the Abbey is now a listed building. It remains the most remarkable piece of architecture of Saint-Jean-d'Angély, a town which has kept all its medieval charm. Situated on the pilgrim route that led to Santiago de Compostela the edifice still constitutes a major stopping-off point towards Santiago de Compostela. Since 1989, the Royal Abbey has housed the Centre of European Culture, which has breathed new life into the Abbey by restoring it as a historical and cultural site and as a place for the exchange of ideas. From 1989 to 1997, the restoration of the monastic buildings has been carried out according to the needs of the Centre of European Culture, with an emphasis placed on accommodation, catering, as well as rooms for conferences, reunions and workshops. The Centre has been at the forefront of the revitalization of the building, to such a point that today the Centre and the Abbey have been linked in the minds of the residents.

Around the region there are many weekly and monthly markets and fairs, see link below for all information

Also many other beautiful places to visit including chateau's, zoo's, theme parks (Futuroscope).

For the sporting types, each year the Motocross world championships are held at St Jean D'Angely and if you are a golfer there is courses at Saintes and Niort, both around 30 minutes away.
