Perfect Quiet Setting

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable, roomy house in a perfect, beautiful, quiet setting. On a quiet back road, but close enough to the main roads. Lots to see and do in the area. We saw more wildlife right outside the cottage than we did anywhere else. A herd of deer comes through a couple of times a day, we were visited one morning by a black bear, and our game camera captured night pictures of a fox and possum. The cottage has a great handbook full of info on the house itself as well as local attractions and restaurants. Dick is a perfect host.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Ronnie & Al for taking time to write a review. We always appreciate 5 stars but, especially so when the reviewers are veteran vacation home renters. You get 5 stars for cleaning and doing the laundry. You are the best yet!

Nice place out in the country

  • 4 of 5

We visited my daughter for a week during her summer work internship. This was a good place for us to stay, away from the crowds, close to the hiking trails and many wineries and breweries in the area. It worked out well. Owner is nice and very accommodating, best equipped kitchen I have ever stayed in, nice bedrooms and even with 4 people and one shower never ran out of hot water. The deck is a nice place to gather, could use a little maintenance there, that is my only knock on the place, but that has to be a constant battle for the owner being in the country so it didn't affect our stay, still enjoyed it.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We pride ourselves on providing 5 star service, however, while we find that we can please most of our guests most of the time, occasionally we slip up. Apparently, the issue here was moss in a few, very small spots on the edge of the deck between the decking boards. We pressure wash the deck each year but, with about 50 reservations per year, it is tough to find a window to do it more often than that. In the woods, moss is a natural part of the environment. We take pains to insure that it does not pose a threat to health or safety. That said, we kinda like it. We think that a little moss adds to the charm of the cottage.

Perfect for our girl's weekend

  • 5 of 5

Afton Cottage is a beautiful, quiet, comfortable cottage in the foothills. The house itself is set up well for a long stay. The kitchen has all of the equipment you might need and there are plenty of books and puzzles to keep you occupied if you decide to stay in. We ventured out to wineries and peach orchards and some of the historic sites that surround Charlottesville. We had a wonderful time and the cottage was perfect!

Cozy Dog Friendly Cottage in the Moutains!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I (and our dogs) spent five nights at this cozy cottage! It has a great location in which to visit wineries, breweries and restaurants in the area. The surrounding area is absolutely gorgeous!!!! It is very private and the owner is great! We so appreciate that it is super dog friendly and has a great yard in which the doggies can run! If you're looking for a home base in the area, don't hesitate to stay here!
