Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Julie and Steve:

Thank you so much for your hospitality. Your place was much nicer than we could have imagined. Ray had it warmed up, and the home is so well-appointed. Very nice! We felt right at home, and we thank you for having so much gear for bicycling, etc., though we couldn't use it in the winter. We borrowed your sleds and snowshoes and used them, and went hiking on the Pulaski trail, my son in law carrying Caleb, their 4 month old, in a sling on his chest.

The location could not be better.... we walked all over town, and even hiked up the big stairs for a valley view.

Thanks for a great time. The house was much larger than I expected, and could sleep 8 easily.

Thanks... see you this summer!

Great place to stay for active people

  • 5 of 5

The house was very clean, with lots of extras if you forget something. This is a totally different experience than staying in a condo. You have to make your own fun, which was great. There is river rafting, horseback riding and great biking within an hours drive. We biked the Hiawatha trail for the 2nd time, an incredible experience. Hint: Take some air out of your tires first-easier ride on the gravel trail. Gloves would also be handy for the cold tunnels. We rafted with Montanariverguides outside Superior. It took about 1 1/2 hours to drive there and were very happy with them. We have rafted with others in the area and find this company to be the best. The biking trial that runs through Wallace is alot of fun and very easy. The area surrounding the house is a little run down, but the people are very friendly. Be prepared for all the cleaning at the end. All the bedding needs to be washed and beds remade, floors vacuumed and mopped. It makes it impossible to leave first thing in the morning, unless you sleep on the floor. I would still stay there again, but maybe ask to pay more for the cleaning deposit. That would give us more flexibility and keep the vacation fun to the very end. The owners are very easy to deal with and gave us contact numbers in case of any problems. The town is full of antique shops, which are fun to browse. We drove through Kellogg, which wasn't nearly as historic. We are so glad that we stayed in Wallace. Kellogg isn't nearly as quaint and has alot more commercial activity. The stairs are rather steep that lead to the bedroom and basement. They do have hand rails and new carpeting, but people with leg problems may find them difficult. Parking is on the street, so everything must be carried up the stairs. It worked out okay for us, as we are all in pretty good shape. It was my husband and I with our 13 and 15 year old girls. We all had a great time!

Owner's Response: Whoops. The clean-up list was meant as a guideline for our housekeeper, not our renters! It's wonderful if you leave the house looking nice, but the cleaning fee does cover vacuuming, mopping, making up the beds, etc. I'll be sure to clarify that at the house. Thanks.

Awesome visit to Wallace!

  • 5 of 5

This home sits on a hill 2 blocks from downtown Wallace. The front porch faces town with a spectacular view of mountains. We enjoyed each morning with our coffee, gazing at the beauty. The home is very comfortable, well laid out, and well stocked with daily needs.

Great location & extremely clean

  • 4 of 5

The owner Steve was very responsive. The listing description regarding the house and the location was accurate. The house was extremely clean and having Ray who looks after the place living next door was an added bonus. Ray has lived in the Wallace area his entire life and is more than willing to make recommendations regarding good places to eat and fun things to do in the area. It was great to be able to walk into town and not have to drive everywhere. The only complaint is the lack of comfort with the twin beds. My husband and I slept in the queen bed which was comfortable however our teenage son was extremely uncomfortable in the twin bed just outside of the main bedroom. After trying out all 4 of the twin mattresses by sitting/laying on them I would have to agree that none of them felt particularly comfortable.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your constructive feedback. I will look into getting new twin bed mattresses in the near future so that guests have a choice of either softer or firmer mattresses. Best, Steve Langer

Great house close to downtown

Stayed here for three nights for skiing and Lookout Pass. House was very comfortable, clean and well appointed. Caretaker Ray next door was friendly and helpful, all in all a great place to stay.

There are better choices in Wallace

  • 1 of 5

Futons for beds, internet router located next door resulting in poor connectivity and the property manager was unaware of my arrival. In short, there are better choices to be made in this area for housing.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry that you had an experience at our vacation home that did not meet your expectations. We do our best to make sure the manager knows you are coming. I include his phone number for you to call ahead to let him know when you are coming on the day of arrival so he can get everything ready, as well as emailing him that you are coming. In this case, he did not get my e-mail about your arrival. I’m sorry for the slower connectivity than you expected, which is something we only have partial control over in the Silver Valley. The beds have mid-range Ikea mattresses for comfort, they are not futons. We work hard to make sure everyone enjoys their stay with us.

Car: recommended

Wallace, a quaint mining town, looks much as it did in the early 1900's. For bicyclists, a 72 mile paved bike path is 3 blocks away. Both Lookout Pass and Silver Mountain ski resorts are a 15 minute drive by car. There are unlimited possibilities for biking, hiking, riding and snowshoeing in the surrounding National Forest. Downtown is a block away, featuring antique and gift shops and other attractions including the Silver Mine Tour, the Oasis Bordello Museum, Wallace District Mining Museum and Northern Pacific Depot Railroad Museum. There are numerous festivals and activities in town throughout the summer.

Other Activities: community pool 2 blocks away

Ski: Wallace is 12 miles from both Lookout Pass and Silver Mountain Ski Resorts! Silver Mountain has more lifts and more runs but is significantly more expensive. It also takes 20+ minutes on the Gondola to get to the lifts. Lookout Pass is less expensive, less crowded, and usually has better snow.
