'Casa dos Amigos' is a first floor apartment on the beautifully landscaped Sao Rafael complex in Sesmarias, approximately a ten minute drive from Albufeira centra. It is spacious, airy and light. It has one double and one twin bedroom, an open-plan lounge/dining area with fireplace, sliding patio doors leading to the main balcony with lovely sea views, kitchen, bathroom with bath/shower, basin, WC and bidet. It is equipped with Satellite TV although since the beginning of this year we have lost access to English BBC, ITV, etc. We currently have access to Sky News and several other channels but not the UK main channels. We have a DVD player and there are a small number of DVD's in the apartment. You can always take a few of your own to watch. There is a CD player, microwave, fridge, cooker, washing machine, toaster, kettle, blender, cutlery & crockery, hairdryers, fans, etc. All bed linen, tea-towels and bathroom towels are provided. It can sleep up to 6 people (sofa-bed in lounge). We also have a travel cot. Electricity, gas and water included. Maid service (one mid-week visit) can be provided for a small additional charge. Beach towels are not provided. It is privately owned and run and is not part of any large holiday company. Children are very welcome. Animals are not permitted. It is a few minutes stroll from the un-spoilt coves of Sao Rafael with its beautiful sandy beaches (European Blue Flag) & cliff top walks.

Golf: The Algarve is one of Europe's premier golf areas boasting over 300 days of sunny weather - all year round.. There are currently over 25 golf courses in the space of 100 miles of coastline, all within one and a half hours' drive of Faro International Airport, with some in very close proximity to Sao Rafael. Salgados, a challenging links course and the nearest course to the apartment, is five minutes drive. Others range from the Palmares to the Pine Cliffs to Benamor, all characterised by the favourable weather conditions and the immaculately manicured fairways and greens, each course in the Algarve adds to the beauty of the Algarve being Portugal's premier golf region.

Car Hire & Taxis: Whilst car hire is not essential, it can be easily be arranged by yourself through the internet. We are happy to recommend the companies we currently use who offer very competitive rates . Taxis are readily available and can also be pre-booked.

The Algarve is a truly beautiful area and the use of a car will further allow you complete freedom to explore and enjoy both inland and coastal areas. The office at Sao Rafael are normally happy to book taxis for the cost of a phone call. You will find that they are very reasonably priced. It is sometimes cheaper to hire a car for the duration of your holiday, rather than hire taxis throughout, even though you may only use it to transport your party to and from the airport, the choice, however, is yours.

Sao Rafael Complex & Apartment: There is a staffed complex office within the complex - with a window overlooking the pool area. Swimming pool tokens are available for our guests at this office to be used in high season. The girls in the office are lovely and are also able and happy to assist with the booking of taxis as mentioned previously, restaurant reservations, general enquiries about excursions, lost property, etc.

Why Mrs Christine Sturley chose Albufeira

This apartment offered everything we were looking for in our dream holiday home. Beautiful peaceful location on a very well run complex, yet not too far from Albufeira or the airport, very near to numerous fantastic beaches, great swimming pool, excellent accommodation, fantastic sea view from the main balcony and from the front bedroom, lovely gardens and lots of lovely restaurants.

Sao Rafael has been rightly called 'The Jewel in the Crown'.

We envisage spending more and more time here in the years to come. In the meantime all our family and friends - young and old alike - love every minute of the time they spend here and always return home with new and fond memories.

What makes this apartment unique

Its perfect location is its best attribute. Not far from the airport, not far from Albufeira, very near to the beaches, fantastic swimming pool and great views.

The complex offers typical Portuguese buildings with heaps of character and beautifully kept gardens.

  • The bathroom has been partly refurbished with new tiles, mirror, lights, bath and shower. The hot water is provided by a condensing boiler so never runs out, providing the boiler is switched on. There is no hot water tank to heat up. There is a built in extractor fan which comes on when the light is turned on and a two bar wall heater which may be used as necessary in the winter months. There is a set of weighing scales if you feel inclined to use them! There is plenty of worktop to put your toiletries.

  • 1 large double bedroom with a high ceiling, bedside cabinets, built in wardrobes and a lovely 5 foot king size bed. This room has double doors opening onto a small Juliet balcony and a wonderful sea view. Have a cup of tea in bed and look out at the sea view! The twin room also has built in wardrobes, with the safe inside, and has two 3 foot single beds with one bedside table in between. It also has double doors opening onto a small Juliet balcony. This overlooks part of our beautifully landscaped gardens. In the lounge area, and if required, there is a double sofa bed which sleeps 2 people (very comfortable) and is quick and easy to make up and manage - linen and pillows are provided. One baby cot is available upon request - linen & pillows for the cot are not provided. Please bring these with you.

The apartment is continually being re-decorated & refurbished. Some TV satellite channels are available but not BBC, etc. Sky News is available. We have a CD/Radio and a DVD and a small selection of CD's, DVD's, games, books, etc. The main balcony is large and has a table with 4 reclining chairs and 4 standard chairs, perfect for dining or just relaxing. The views from both the lounge/main balcony and the double bedroom balcony are beautiful. Each bedroom has patio doors and a small Juliet balcony with wooden shutters. The two beautiful local beaches (Sao Rafael & Arrifes) are both just a short stroll away. Sunbeds are available on both beaches in the summer. Each beach has its own bar/restaurant serving meals, snacks and drinks throughout the day and evening but may be closed out of season. There are numerous excellent restaurants nearby - many within walking distance - offering a superb choice of dining. There are also a number of nearby restaurants who also serve food to take away

Great location and perfectly kitted out

We had 2 small children and this apartment was perfect - just the right size, had everything in it you could want and more

The location is excellent as you can walk to 2 beaches ( with small kids who don't like to walk!) - excellent rock pools and cafes/restaurants on both beaches!

Also lots of locals so it must be good

Sao Rafael is a prestigious, 'open-plan' complex of low rise apartments and villas in a beautiful setting, in well-maintained, landscaped gardens, occupying one of the most sought after locations in the Algarve, overlooking the sea. It offers a peaceful, non-stressful holiday location. Our apartment is only a few minutes stroll from the un-spoilt coves of Sao Rafael with its sandy beaches (European Blue Flag), cliff top walks and popular beach bars/restaurants.

Sao Rafael is 40 kms from Faro Airport - approx 30-40 mins by car. It is 3 kms from the centre of Albufeira which rightly claims to be the original tourist capital of the region.

Nearby restaurants are too numerous to mention here but there are several within walking distance. Seafood/fish is in abundance but all tastes are catered for.

Guia with its chicken piri-piri restaurants and Zoomarine (where you can also swim with the dolphins) is a short drive away.

Algarve Shopping Mall and Cinema Complex is also very near. Albufeira Marina is within walking distance where numerous boat trips and water sports activities are available. There is also a go-kart track here based in the car park.

Refundable Damage Deposit £150

Each extra person (above 4) will be an additional £50 per person per week regardless of the time of the year. No additional charge is made for the provision of a cot. If your booking is made less than six weeks before the commencement date, full payment is required upon confirmation of booking. A 'Security Deposit' of £150 is required for each booking at the time of payment of the balance.

Prices in £ sterling are per week based on 4 persons sharing. Payment by Bank Transfer to a UK or a Portuguese bank account preferred. Sterling or Euro Cheques are accepted. Bank details to be provided at a later date. A 25% deposit is required within 7 days of booking as confirmation, the final balance being due six weeks before the commencement date of your holiday.
