We both grew up by the sea, David in Ireland, Kathy in San Francisco and we always knew that however far away we moved away from the sea, we would always come back. After we met in college, we traveled much of the world together, but it was Maui and the stretch of beach in front of the Mahana that captured our hearts. Over the years, we returned to Maui and the Mahana for a month every summer. For our children, it was a second home. Now young adults, they still love coming back every chance they can. Once you have been to the Mahana, you’ll want to come back too!

Why Kathy chose Kaanapali
We fell in love with the Mahana in 1977. We were at a conference in Honolulu and came to Maui for a day. We were walking along the north end of Kaanapali beach. The sun was setting between the islands of Lanai and Molokai. It was the most amazing sight! We turned around and saw Mahana. We knew right then and there that we had to buy one of these beachfront homes. For us it was the view and the view and the view! We had our pick of condos and chose #818 on the spot because of its incredible view, not to high, not too low, just perfect! We were still very young and buying this condo meant that we couldn't buy a house for several years, but we never regretted the investment in a beach home on Maui! Later, we did get a house (!) and we also bought two other condos at the Mahana (#708 in the Molokai building and #819, the corner condo, which is right next door to #818). For us, however, #818 is still a magical place and one we ourselves love coming back to year after year!
What makes this Condo unique
For us it’s a home away from home. In winter we love watching the whales, in summer it’s the dolphins and turtles. I love getting up to see the dawn coming up over the ocean. My husband is mesmerized by the stars. We all enjoy walking or jogging on the beach, swimming and snorkeling in the crystal clear blue water, exploring all the other nearby beaches, Kapalua Bay, Napili Bay, Fleming Beach, Honolua Bay and watching the long sunsets. We also love going to the Farmers Market for fresh papaya and mangos and finding local fish to grill back at the Mahana. It’s the majesty of the ocean and the mountains. It’s the trade winds and the friendly people. It’s something else, totally special that is just impossible to describe. You have to come to Maui and the Mahana and you will experience it yourself!

ONLY ONE PROBLEM! YOU WON'T WANT TO LEAVE!!
From the moment we walked in the unit, we knew we made an amazing choice! This home is beautifully, (yet very comfortably), appointed. The breathtaking views from the lanai, living room and master bedroom were truly spectacular! The unit is well equipped with all the extras that you would not normally travel with. When going to the beach, there were coolers, beach chairs, snorkel equipment....you name it, they thought of it! If cooking at home, they had every pot/pan, utensil, etc. that you can think of. Rather than spending additional money on restaurants in order to take advantage of the amazing Maui sunsets, we had the sunset all to ourselves on the comfortable of the lanai. I can not say enough good things about this condo. We are hoping to return to Maui and there is no doubt that we will be back to The Mahana, Unit 818!! Thank you Kathy & David for making our vacation so special!

Great home away from home!
Incredibly well maintained property with all the comforts of home. The view is spectacular, parking easy, from the elevator to the beach about 100 paces. The beach is crystalline most of the time. Lahaina is action packed 15 minutes by car and Duke's, a great restaurant is right next door. We did not miss a single sunset and each got better as the days passed. Loved it!
Whale watching from your lanai - January-April. Championship golf nearby. Beautiful coral reef below window.
