THE PIGEONNIER is unique. The lounge is on the first floor taking advantage of the lovely view and wonderful beams giving an almost medieval feel. There are two bedrooms, one double and one twin and a pretty bathroom. The country style kitchen is extremely well fitted including a washing machine and dishwasher. The dining area has lovely views over the garden through the large double window. The pigeonnier also has its own garden and a south facing patio and lawns with walnut tree, fig and grape vine. As this is the last building in the peaceful hamlet there is nothing to get in the way of the wonderful view. There is attractive garden furniture and a barbecue. THE LOVELY POOL has paved surrounds and is shared with the Farmhouse. The Pigeonnier has modern heating throughout making this a comfortable retreat all through the year.
The charming DETACHED FARMHOUSE has four double bedrooms and two bathrooms and is very well fitted with comfortable furniture. It is situated on the edge of a quiet hamlet surrounded by beautiful countryside and has stunning views. The property is south facing and is most attractive with open stonework, shutters and terracotta tiles to the roof, which is typical of the properties in this area. Summer offers fields of golden sunflowers, walnut orchards and vines. The farmhouse its own garden and there is a lovely pool. THE PIGEONNIER is unique. There are many local restaurants but our favorite is The Chateau in Chalais which has elegant surroundings, excellent food and first class service. Ensure you book well in advance for this very reasonably priced treat. Two alternatives are Le Bonne Humeur at Yviers for wonderful fresh food and a friendly welcoming atmosphere and Le Passe Simple at Aubeterre. La Poirier in Bardenac serves an excellent and keenly priced lunch. Our information booklet give full details of local restaurants.

We holidayed in La Foix with friends this Summer - they rented the Farmhouse and we took the Pigeonnier and we were not disappointed at all. It was the ideal set up for such an arrangement and our children, ranging from 4 years to 9 years were delighted by the pool, gardens and boules court (boules and pool toys provided)
Both properties were very well appointed, clean and homely – not at all your average holiday let. You could instantly tell it was a home the owners were proud to share, and rightly so. We were left wanting for nothing and had an incredibly relaxing stay. The communication before, during and after the stay was excellent – with a very useful information book provided with each property and the management were friendly and available.
We could have happily stayed by the pool for 2 weeks but also explored the surrounding area – the lake at Brossac (10 minutes away) , the river at Aubeterre (25 minutes away), dinner at the Chateau in Chalais (highly recommend), and day trip to St Emilion (50 minutes away). We flew into Bordeaux and enjoyed a very pleasant hour’s drive to the property.
We would not hesitate in recommending this property – especially given the incredibly reasonable price. We look forward to returning soon.
Excellent property offering very good value for money. Very well equipped and looked as though it had been renovated in recent past. Property ideal for those looking for a quiet 'away from it all' holiday, although with the pool area, bbq etc. you have everything there. Lovely garden with great views too and walks from the property. Lots of places to visit nearby, if you want. Good selection of restaurants also. Our only slightly negative comment would be that the pool had been closed by the property manager despite the property description stating pool open until end of September (we stayed 20-27 Sept). We were told this was due to the forecast temperatures and although they were in the low to mid 20's and the pool probably would have been quite cold it would have been nice to have had the choice of whether to swim or not. In fairness the owner had emailed us to tell us this but we were already travelling and didn't read it until our return. Overall excellent and we would definitely use this property again. Thoroughly recommended.
The hamlet of La Foix is near the village of Brie-Sous-Chalais in the beautiful South Charente. The town of Chalias where there is a supermarket, banks, petrol stations etc. about 7km away. The closest airports are at Bordeaux, Angouleme, La Rochelle and Bergerac. An hours drive will take you to Brantome, the Venice of the Perigueux or St Emilion, a lovely old town where you can visit the ancient vineyards by small train and sample the wine. 70 minutes drive takes you to a choice of wonderful beaches near Royan. Just a few minutes in the car will take you to a number of safe lakeside and riverside beaches with leisure facilities and lots to see and do. Drive further into the Dordogne and see the amazing Lascaux cave or the famous medieval town of Sarlat. Locally you can hire a kayak and paddle down river to a lovely restaurant and phone to be collected when ready. The attractive and interesting town of Aubeterre is just a 15 minute drive away.
Other Activities: Just a few minutes drive will take you to a number of safe lakeside and riverside beaches with leisure facilities and lots to see and do.
Golf: A short drive takes you to the beautiful Manoir de Longeveau Golf and Country club where you will find a 9 hole golf course in stunning surroundings. There are also tennis courts and a friendly bar and snack bar.
