Guestbook comments from the manager

I traveled with my husband and two teenagers. This apartment had more than enough space for our size party. The THREE terraces were the best part of the experience staying in this apartment. Fabulous views!!! There was AC in the three bedrooms. The management was excellent in accommodating our requests. Ex: we couldn't figure out how to open the washing machine so the property caretaker went there to open it and even hung our clothes to dry for us while we were out touring. Note: there is no clothes dryer but typical in Italy. Restaurant recommendations were spot on. The second bathroom on the second level was not conducive to taking a shower (it has a combined shower/tub) but there was a standing shower in the main floor bathroom so that worked out fine. I would definitely recommend this apartment. It was great!

Fantastic

We had the great pleasure of Renting Domitilla early September 2016. It was my Sisters

Birthday & we wanted to find something very special in Rome. While checking the internet

I came across an Apartment called Domitilla, which immediately caught my Eye.

The apartment was designed in the 60’s and is of its time, beautiful layout / incredibly spacious with 3 terraces & views which I think would be hard to match in Rome.

Spent afternoons being very lazy in the sitting room taking advantage of the Eames Chair

And Ottoman (exceptionally comfortable) & mornings on the Large top terrace enjoying the Sunshine & great views ……….

Location of apartment is brilliant; 10 min walk to the Trevi’s Fountain / 15 min the the Forum & about 20 mins to the Cool shops by the Spanish steps.

Adriana (Our Greeter) could not have been more helpful, did some shopping for us prior to our arrival, Organised Taxi’s from/to the Airport / recommended Restaurants – which we enjoyed very much (All very local – particularly the restaurant behind the apartment, a

Family run place – food was fantastic – recommend the Pasta Carbonara)

Over all, I can highly recommend both Domitilla & Commendable Rentals (looking forward to using the apartment again in 2017)

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words. We are delighted that you would like to return. The terraces , certainly do make it very special indeed, as does the architect and designers decor. Of course though they did that in the 60's , they building goes back several centuries, as it is in Rome's historic center. It is also a near neighbour of the Quirinale Palace, and one of my favourite Museum's, The Scuderie. I hope that you had a chance to visit! Thank you again, Susan, Adriana , and the Commendable Rentals Team

Great place in the heart of Rome

  • 4 of 5

This apartment is right in the heart of Rome and very close to Trevi Fountain, the Forum, and the Colosseum. It has three bedrooms, including a (rare for Europe) king-size bed on the upper floor. It also has three great decks that overlook the city. The only drawback to the place is the showers. For some odd reason neither shower has a curtain or shower doors around it. It is very difficult to take a shower in them. Maybe the owner will fix that situation soon. Also, only one set of towels were given to us, which was not near enough for four days. But overall we loved the place.

Owner's Response: Thank you for writing. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay, and the apartment with its extraordinary views of all Rome , from the Vatican Dome to The dome's of the Piazza del Popolo. The open showers are the Italian style ( infact in the rest of the world they are proudly installed as a "Italian Showers", we will have a look and see if a shower curtain makes sense. We rather like the open style ourselves when designed as here, so that the water does not go out of the shower area. We are always happy to offer extra towels, and they are available for you to take. We wish you had asked us where to find them. Next time! Do come back.

Breathtaking views in the heart of it all

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the domatilla was wonderful. Having such a beautiful place to come home to and helped make our trip wonderful. Our party included myself and my husband, his parents and our 6 month old son. Since having a child, it is much more difficult to go out and experience the nightlife while traveling, so it is important for us to stay in an apartment or hotel where you feel like you are in a different city and not say in the middle of New Jersey. This apartment delivers. From the moment your eyes open in the morning you see some amazing monument or architectural wonder and the entire city skyline spanning centuries is laid out in front of you.

Location

I cannot stress how perfect the location is. It is within walking distance to almost all major attractions in the city. We signed up for two tours and both times our guides just met us at the front door since it was so close to where we were going. This was essential for traveling with a small child.

Apartment

The apartment is so spacious and allowed us to spread out and have our own space throughout the week. The large dining table was perfect and allowed us to all have dinner together. The beautiful terraces (there are three) were the perfect place to relax after a day of touring and we could watch the amazing sunset with a nice glass of wine.

Mr. Soni

One of the greatest parts of our trip was Mr. Soni. He is a master in the kitchen and prepared such delicious meals for us. It was such a wonderful feature to be able to come back from a long day and have someone prepare a wonderful (and authentic) Italian meal in the comfort of our apartment. If I could have taken Mr. Soni home with us, I would have.

Commendable

Commendable Rentals were absolute pros and helped stock the kitchen for us upon arrival and coordinate with Mr. Soni and even found our baby monitor that we accidentally left. They absolutely go the extra mile to make your experience great.

I would recommend this apartment in a heartbeat and my only criticism would be the upstairs bathroom is in need of some updating and tlc - but we used it for a week with no problem. Also I would note that we had a young child (not walking yet) and it was great - if we had toddlers or more mobile children, I would have kept a closer eye on upper terrace door to make sure they could not go out there. It has a lock and safeguards of course, but you would need to be diligent if you had toddling small children.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for writing this thorough and extensive review. You will wonderful guests, and we loved that you started your little one travelling so soon. He will be a man of the world. I have also found that children who start travelling at any early age adapt to circumstances better than those who don't. By the, we agree with you totally about this apartment not being suitable for small children, and we have we do advise those with small children against it, unless the agree to keep the terraces locked. The owner is considering the bathroom upgrade.. Thank you again. Susan

Stunning!!! but..

  • 4 of 5

I wanted to give this place a five star rating, actually I would love to buy this place, but unfortunately I can't do either. I loved this apartment! It's classic mid century modern and the views are to die for! But, it won't be for everyone. It was featured in Life magazine in 1969 and was even more spectacular then. A lot of the same furnishings are still there. And there lies the problem. It's in need of a little updating, especially the master bath. The downstairs bath is lovely and has been renovated. The kitchen is functional, and I cooked many meals but original. Some more outdoor furniture would of been nice since the terraces are simply amazing. One of our guides was so intrigued, she came back to see the place and was in awe. She said she's never seen a better view in Rome. There is no air conditioning essentially since the unit in the master bedroom is probably from 1969 too and doesn't cool at all. However, walls of glass, that slide open, allowed a nice breeze, despite the unusually hot June. The trade off is street noise. So, it has warts, but I would rent it again in a heartbeat. It's simply that spectacular. My family all agree. For some people, a modern kitchen will be more important than the ambiance, but for us that was less important.

The uniqueness won out. The place was clean, check in and out were easy, we walked or uber everywhere. A lot of nice restaurants within walking distant along with a small but adequate grocery store. I wish I could given it a five.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your frank point of view. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay, and that you appreciated that this apartment has a spectacular view and position. It was designed by a very famous Italian Architect, and is rather a landmark apartment as you did discover. Changing some of the things that you mentioned are just not possible; it would be like redecorating a Frank Lloyd Wright home in The US, However, some updates will be done, and new terrace furniture is planned for the summer. We are delighted that you would like to come back. That is worth more than 1000 words, and we would greatly welcome you as a Commendable Rentals guest again.
