Hello, I'm Catherine Bennett, a full-time real estate broker. After showing and selling thousands of waterfront properties, it was time to find a waterfront getaway of our own! Robert is an architect, professional engineer and Class A contractor so renovating this home is a delight for us. We're constantly updating and decorating, and are eager to share this special property with you.
Catherine Bennett, Realtor, Broker & Owner purchased this house in 2001
This property appealed to us because:
First, it is located right on the Corrotoman River, my favorite river because it is very clean and excellent for fishing and boating. It is THE river for sailboaters! By 'right on the water', I mean it is built about 25 feet from the water. Waterfront homes are now allowed to be built no closer than 100 feet from the waterfront.
Second, it has an amazing tidal pond that serves as a grocery store for the local waterfowl and a habitat for ducks, otter, and other fascinating woodland creatures. You'll be amazed at the drama that nature unveils daily, including the awesome birdwatching right here on the Atlantic flyway.
Third, it has a floorplan that makes it cozy for a couple or excellent for more people with gathering space and spread out spaces. Two fireplaces make it charming in winter and the wrap around porch with screened porch below make outdoor living in Virginia's excellent weather ideal. And because I love tall rooms, the vaulted ceiling in the front half of the first floor makes it wonderful!
Fourth, it has woods on two sides, the river on the third side and on the fourth side, up the hill, is a lovely neighbor. You can't get much more privacy! Fish Tales is 1.3 acres, including the tidal pond that is accreting, the opposite of eroding!
Fifth, it is in Corrotoman By The Bay, a wonderful little community with a terrific salt-water swimming pool, beautiful professional quality tennis courts with pickle ball. Free exercise equipment and wi-fi at the clubhouse, playground, and many other features. Parties, parades and other events are highlights of this area.
Most guests comment on the incredible views throughout the house of one of the most beautiful rivers in Virginia. There's occasional kayakers, fishing boats and sailboats that distract you from the awesome birds and wildlife who live on and follow the river.
They also love how beautiful the house is and the wooded setting. Best of all, they love that we welcome your family dog! The picture is of Robert with our darling Old English Sheepdog, Fanny, enjoying a few minutes of happy time in the living room.
Thank you so much for letting us rent Fish Tales! We had so much fun. I love how much detail you put into every room. Your online pictures really don't do this place justice because it is so much prettier in person. Even the dogs loved it! Dad loved crabbing (when he caught some), Heather (my sister) loved the pool, my aunt loved helping my dad crab (most of the time she had better luck than he did), Mom loved watching the way the sun reflects on the water, and I loved taking pictures of nearly everything. The little red sailboat absolutely fascinates me! Do people still use it? Mom and I think it is just for show. We even named a snake that comes to the cove right beside the deck. His name is Sssteeeree haha! We all wish we could stay longer, but unfortunately we have to leave. I hope you like the sign that we made. Until next time...
We had a great time, even with bad weather. We enjoyed a little kayaking and played tennis. Unfortunately the tires on the bikes were flat and the pump did not work. We would love to visit again to get some fishing time in! The realtor was very prompt in returning messages.
AN ENJOYABLE GETAWAY FROM THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE. QUIET AND RELAXING, WITH NICE PEOPLE TO HANG OUT AT THE POOL WITH THAT MADE YOU FEEL AS PART OF THE COMMUNITY. BEAUTIFUL SUNRISES OVER THE TIDAL POOL AND RIVER AND PLENTIFUL WILDLIFE TO OBSERVE. MRS. BENNETT WAS QUICK TO RESPOND TO ANY NEEDS THAT CAME UP. WE WANT TO THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR HOME AND LETTING US RELAX FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST. HOPE TO BE ABLE TO GET BACK AGAIN.
Catherine the owner has such a beautiful property, in the most gorgeous location. We had to bring so little with us as so much was provided including a kayak! The peace was just what was needed after 3 days in Washington DC. I would recommend both Catherine and the property.
We had a great time at Fish Tales! It was truly fun for the whole family - including for our relatives from Germany who joined us during the stay. From kayaking on the river to relaxing at the community swimming pool with the kids, there was something to do for the whole family. At first glance it appears there is little to do, but one quickly learns that this is not the case at all. After we took full advantage of the lovely home and neighborhood where we were staying, we headed down to Bell Isle state Park which was only a few miles away and enjoyed free music and many family attractions. We highly recommend Fish Tales to those who are looking for a quiet, fun and relaxing vacation.
I found this gem for a family gathering with my sister's in laws in VA. We couldn't believe how quaint and welcoming this place is! I have rented many VRBO properties, but have never experienced such a wonderful hostess, Catherine, or such a well equipped space. She had place thoughtful notes around the home to help make our stay more easier. The kitchen has everything we needed and the property and the kids enjoyed the kayak and the community pool.
The view was like a scene from a Nicholas Sparks novel. We will come back again one day!
Laid back owner provides everything you can imagine for a water getaway. The answer to everything you can ask is, "yes, they have it". Despite visiting in the off season the cottage was ready to go and even included an amenity basic.
Look no further, this is the right getaway location for you.
