We offer a beautiful two bedroom, one bath home on prestigious Opal Cliff Drive.

Vaquita House is a remodeled cottage steps from Privates Beach, our gated neighborhood beach. We provide you with a key to access this unique gated beach and great uncrowded surf spot. A seven minute walk along the ocean will take you to shopping and dining in Capitola Village and awesome Capitola Beach. Famous surf spots the Hook and Pleasure Point are also just a short walk away. A surfer's paradise; walk to your own break. Surfboad and wetsuit racks are right outside your door in a secure patio area for easy access.

Vaquita House comes with a full kitchen, stainless steel appliances, and everything you need to prepare a gourmet meal right at home. The house has hardwood floors in the main living space and carpeted bedrooms. Island themed art work fills the house with a laid back vacation feel. Both the queen bed (with new organic mattress, June 2018) and the twin-bed room access the private landscaped patio through their own sliding glass doors. Relax in the sun with the outdoor dining table surrounded by flowers and hummingbirds. The patio deck is perfect for barbecuing on the grill or relaxing with a glass of wine.

Less than a ten minute walk to Capitola Wharf, Capitola Village, Capitola Beach, Pleasure Point, great shopping, and fine dining. Vaquita House is a short drive to downtown Santa Cruz and the beach boardwalk, and 35 minutes to Monterey. Perfect for a romantic getaway or family beach vacation.

About Alexandra & Jon

Alexandra & Jon own and manage the Vaquita House. In addition to maintaining our rental, Alexandra is an author and psychotherapist; Jon is an organizational consultant and musician. We also have long-standing interest in and love of dolphins. The Vaquita is an endangered porpoise found only in the Gulf of California. We donate a portion of the proceeds from the house to the conservation of the ocean and preservation of the dolphins and whales.

Why Alexandra & Jon chose Opal Cliffs

We've lived on the east side of Santa Cruz since going to the University years ago. The Opal Cliffs neighborhood offers a vacation vibe in a family friendly neighborhood. Nestled between Capitola Village and Pleasure Point, you can walk to everything you need while at the same time having home base in a quiet, safe neighborhood. Many people run, walk, and bike on Opal Cliff Drive to take in this beautiful street; Privates Beach is 10 doors down from our house. The upgraded promenade along East Cliff Dr is two blocks away. We love it here because everything you need is within a few blocks. You can literally park your car for the week and walk to Pilates, baked goods, surf spots, breakfast, organic markets, bars, beaches, bike shops, boutiques, wine tasting and anything else you can think of. We often think our neighborhood is too good to be true. . . but it is true. Come and see.

What makes this house unique

Vaquita House is in an upscale residential neighborhood. We personally do the check ins and check outs and keep the property in tip top shape; it is professionally cleaned between each stay. We live nearby and are here for anything you may need. Need a restaurant recommendation for dinner -- romantic or with the kids, you got it! Lovely hiking spot, you got it! Best local cafe, you got it! We love to share the ins and outs of Santa Cruz and Captiola and are happy to answer your questions at any time during your stay.

We were a family of four looking for a quiet beach neigbourhood with easy access to the beach, good food and awesome bike riding. Each day included a easy ride to the hills, beach and strawberry fields. We have to admit that family road rides are in access of 100 km a day. Opal House and neigbouhood provided a perfect oasis at the end of the day exploring by bike, car or foot. The owners personalized our stay before we arrived with solid fun information. They were available if we had a question and were not made to feel like we were imposing but just friends visiting. An excellent choice! We would go back again.

Great home close to the beach, restaurants, etc.

The Vaquita House is a great 2-bedroom house perfect for families. It is less than 1 block from Privates Beach, which is great for surfing, splashing, or exploring tide pools. It is also less than a 10 minute walk to 41st Street restaurants, coffee shops, and more surfer-watching. The house is clean, well kept, with nice indoor and outdoor spaces.

We will rent this again!

This was our first “beach house” as a family and will now choose this very house over hotels in the future. We alternated between enjoying the Privates beach and Capitola Village. Great location. Clean and cozy. We never used our car once. We hope to come back soon!

Great stay!

Cute little bungalow in perfect location. 10 minute walk to Capitola which has tons of shops and restaurants (what a relief to not flight for parking on a sunny day!) Access to the private beach was great also and only a short walk down the street. The house had beach toys for our kiddos and a great little back yard. Great stay!

Great beach cottage within walking distance of Capitola dining and shopping. Quiet, comfortable and doors away from private beach access. Cozy home in a great location!

Location location location! This home is walking distance to everything (shops, restaurants, beaches, bars). The private beach access is a HUGE plus, too. Although the home is smaller, the layout is great. There were 4 adults total (2 couples) and we weren't waking on top of each other. The house was so clean and well-kept! And they provide you with ample extra towels, blankets and many other amenities. The owners were super friendly and very responsive!
