Guestbook comments from the owner

My only thing would be photos of house make it look more secluded than it is. Your kitchen is one of the best stocked ones I have stayed at.

Well stocked kitchen, very clean. Quiet area on dead end street. Restful sleep so good bedding and smell of the sea through an open window. The dogs enjoyed the yard area and the deck. Everything worked well-so obviously well maintained. Very convenient to Rockland etc. Great lobster just down the street. Karen was very helpful through the whole rental experience-providing info on upcoming events and personal favorites. Lots of brochures available at the house on local places and things to do. Thanks for such a nice rental property.

Peaceful Sojourn along the Maine Coast

  • 5 of 5

This was our third stay at Crest House. A decade ago, we and our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Leo spent delightful weeks during two consecutive summers at this lovely house that sits on a hill in the center of Spruce Head Island. But we had not returned to Maine for 10 years and when we decided to return this summer with our 2-year-old terrier Kenzie, there was no doubt about where to stay. What makes Crest House special is that while its interior is charmingly homey and its immediate surroundings are soothingly quiet, its proximity to an array of activities--the Maine lobster enterprise, the art and theater scenes in Rockland and Camden, some excellent restaurants, access by ferry to other islands like Fox and Monhegan, a terrific and secluded beach in Birch Point State Park, and historical sites such as Fort Knox to the north and Marshall Point Lighthouse--assures that guests will get out and about and truly immerse themselves in the Mid-Coastal Maine experience.

The owners of Crest House, Karen and Brian Smith, go out of their way to make a stay at their property a rich and memorable one. Karen is a terrific source of voluminous information that will aid in planning ways to fill one's stay there. Brian is literally 'on call' to troubleshoot any technical issues that might arise. In fact, the care we receive from afar from the Smiths was a major reason we wanted to return to Crest House this July: we knew we were in for an experience in which worries would be minimal and enjoyment would essentially be guaranteed. To top it off, Karen had some great news. Just a 10-minute walk or one-minute drive down the hill to the water a new (to us, but it's been there a few years now) lobster shack, McLoons, which serves up, along with other seafood treats, one of the best lobster rolls in Maine. Now if that's not an enticement....

Perfect Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect cottage for our family vacation. Loved the location. Easy drive to state beaches and a short walk to Mcloons lobster pound. We enjoyed Rockland and Camden and hiking in Camden Hills State Park. The cottage was very well provisioned with everything we needed. Karen was so helpful with ideas for things to do and places to eat in the area. We enjoyed time on the deck and the yard had plenty of room to play games with the kids. We highly recommend staying here. Can't say enough good things about it!

Wonderful house- very comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • 5 of 5

Great place to get away from it all and enjoy some peace and quiet and all that Spruce Head Island has to offer. Owners were very helpful with any questions we had and making sure we were all set. The fireplace with a good supply of wood was a nice feature during our November visit.

Cozy home—stocked with everything!

  • 5 of 5

There were 4 of us ( 2 couples). The house is very comfortable & the host is so nice! Karen sent us all kinds of info about the area before we arrived. The only issue is that you should be aware that there is one full bath downstairs & one upstairs. So if you are 2 couples, one set will be running upstairs to get ready etc (such a minor thing)). Also, we arrived mid-October & so many restaurants & businesses were closed for the season. But—it is beautiful & a great choice if you are considering this rental.

Brian and Karen have fixed up the most delightful bolthole with a wonderfully furnished house and delightful position. What's wrong with walking down a hill to the best Lobster Rolls Maine has to offer. !!! As a chef who enjoys cooking on holidays, the kitchen was completely outfitted. I took my own utensils but left them in the box after the first meal. We've reserved again for 2019 so that says a lot. Now we're off to the Betty Ford Clinic for a treatment. Mainers really know how to put away the wine!!

Awesome Island home!

  • 5 of 5

Came to this area for a wedding and found this listing a short drive away. From the moment we started planning, I just knew we made the right choice. Karen made contact with us about arrival plans - and even sent us information regarding favorite places to eat and things to do. VALUABLE information! We ate at a lobster place right down the hill- freshest ever!!!!!! And the next morning ventured to her recommendation for a great breakfast...both were amazing! She even left our family a little "treat"- which was a welcome addition. The house was perfect for my husband and I, and our three adult children/spouses. It was clean, the yard was relaxing and the house is just a short drive from all the area attractions. Looking forward to coming back!
