Don’t be hard headed like me!!!
When Glen and Min tell you it would be preferable to bring a 4 wheel drive, they are serious!!!! Do it or call so I can make fun of you!!!!
Lol! Glad you enjoyed the road Nancy! It is a true mountain road for sure but that’s why we have to recommend AWD/4WD. The big awkward gas company truck has rear wheel drive and gets to our cabin no problem but that guy is local and he is used to the mountain roads. People who are used to only paved roads can find it a little bit of an adventure.
Thank you for the 5 Star review!

Great cabin, steep road
The owners were very clear that a 4 wheel drive vehicle was recommended, and they were right. The cabin was great and right in the middle of an area with apple farms, Asheville, Chimney Rock, Flat Rock and Lake Lure. We hit Grandad's Apples for some great pies, donuts, pastries - perfect October timing on that. Hiked Hickory Nut Falls, beautiful and accessible, had lunch sitting right above the river in Chimney Rock, did the artist district in Asheville after Tupelo Honey breakfast, even did the Haunted Farm, a great experience if you have the nerve for it, shopped the tourist traps of Chimney Rock. All in all, a wonderful experience all within thirty minutes or less of our cabin. Even toured Carl Sandburg's home. Please note the cabin is up a steep dirt road. Our two wheel drive cars all made it up with effort, but we shared a four wheel drive after that, which navigated no problem. The cabin was everything they promised, and everyone told me how much they loved the weekend. Much enjoyed.
Secluded, picturesque and restful
The Hikers Hideaway hosted by Glen and Min was everything described in the listing. It was clean, comfortable and well appointed with everything you might need.
I thought about describing our stay as quiet; inside the cabin is very well insulated and quiet. But sitting on the porch at night filled our senses with sounds of nature. It was amazing the many sounds and how peaceful it felt.
The gravel road to the mountain house is steep but very manageable. As we were preparing to leave on Sunday the property manager was busy grading the road after I had left treadmarks on my many trips up the mountain.
We loved the location of the house in Gerton,NC. There are trails within a short drive for all levels of hiker. We enjoyed Bearwallow to the pasture of cows and also Wildcat Rock Trail to the stream. Chimney Rock and Lake Lure are very close for dining out.
Private getaway with easy access to so many fun things
The Hiker’s Hideaway is a beautiful cabin and is definitely very hidden away. The cabin was very nicely decorated and clean, the kitchen is well stocked and the whole place just feels like home. We were there in the summer and made trips to Lake Lure to their public beach (awesome for kids) as well as Chimney Rock Park and some meals in Hendersonville. We loved having our private getaway to come home to and each of these trips only takes between 20-40 minutes. We also drove into Asheville and that’s about 45 minutes but so worth the drive. Our daughter loved having her own room and playing on the upper deck, we all loved the upper deck and would have morning coffee out amongst the trees and flowers. We all watched a little TV/movies on the Netflix in the house once our outdoor excursions were over and overall just had a lovely time. The owner’s were very responsive and sent updates at each stage of the trip that were very useful, so we could not be happier with our stay!
My family reserved this cabin for just after Christmas. The cabin is as pictured. There was plenty of space. The rooms were broken out nicely to provide the proper privacy. It was a nice feature to have a downstairs with two rooms, a full bathroom and a door that opens to the lower level balcony- cool! This could be perceived as private from the rest of the cabin if you choose or just as part of the cabin. The cabin had two porches with pretty views. Also, there were several windows so you always had a view. Fireplace was nice! My whole family was able to gather and hang out in the living with plenty of space which was a plus. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare food for adults and kids for a week. Both Asheville and Hendersonville were ~25 minute drives which had plenty to do. We went tubing, zip lining, hiking, visited Chimney Rock and went to several breweries. The hosts were great and were very responsive and checked in regularly. We had a great time and would recommend!!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review of Hikers Hideaway! It was our great pleasure to host you and your family!
We are still new as Hosts and will strive to continually improve so we hope you will return to see that the cabin will get better and better!
Very best regards,
Glen and Min
