Just a perfect holiday. Chalet is so well equipped (apart from lack of a kettle), we could not have wished for anything better. We would thoroughly recommend this property and would love to return as soon as possible.
From the time we started looking into renting this property, to the end, with all the time in between, our experience was perfect. The owner and their local "on site" colleague were so kind and nice to work with. You really don't need to leave this home. The view and setting are so beautiful. You could just sit outside on the balcony and enjoy the mountains. The home is absolutely off the charts. From the setting, to the beautiful living and sleeping areas, it does not get any better. Plus, you are just a very short walk from the center of Grindelwald.
This is a great place to spend a week or so in Switzerland. The chalet is almost perfect, great location, amazing views, comfortable rooms, and a stellar kitchen. It's also an effective design for multiple families because it has pods of rooms, for instance, the upstairs will house a family of 4 or 5 with their own bathroom and living area. We had a group with ages from 13 to 82 and everyone loved this chalet and the area. You will want to bring the giant casual dining table home with you!
We had a great week in this excellent chalet. The snow started falling the first day of our arrival. We felt very! lucky. The views of the mountains were astonishing; but most of all this chalet was beyond our expectations. We were 8 persons (4 couples) and we had an excellent stay. The chalet is much better than the photos in the site. The owner has to take more professional photos to show the actual luxury of the interior. No negative points! We are strongly recommending this chalet.
We had a great week in the chalet. The weather, the snow, the views of the mountains but most of all this chalet were beyond expectation. We (two families, 8 persons) enjoyed our stay very much: the kitchen was well equipped, the bathrooms luxurous. No negative points! We can recommend this chalet.
We didn’t even notice if there was a tv or not. Sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine and watching the north face of Eiger change by the minute was incredible! The view was our entertainment every night.
Eiger may be the hero, but the chalet itself is a very close second. Every detail is beautifully crafted and features a modern chalet interior that’s clean and new. It includes everything you need to enjoy the best of the Swiss alps.
You’re a very short walk to the Grund train station which gives you access to all the good spots, especially the ones you cannot drive to. It’s also just a couple of minutes by car or bike to the center of Grindelwald for dinner, groceries and shopping (make sure you buy a watch and a swiss army knife). Not to mention the abundance of hiking trails in any direction. An excellent spot to go wandern on the wanderwegs.
Some highlights from our stay:
- Junfrauoch – an unforgettable journey to the top of Europe. We simply walked down to the Grund station early in the morning and caught the train for the 2hr trip to the top. When you get there, check out the zipline.
- Gimmelwald is an unbelievably beautiful and sleepy village sitting on top of a cliff looking right at Monch and Jungfrau. It’s quite a steep hike up, but very worth it. There is also a cable car if you don’t have the legs.
- Tremmelbach falls in Lauterbrunnen. It’s insane to walk inside of a mountain and watch the water carve its way through the rock. Very cool.
- Gletchershact is a beautiful gorge in Grindelwald that you can walk through, right above and along the river.
- Looking for the best hiking? The gondola up to First takes you to a hiker’s paradise.
- The Eiger Trail! - A close up view of the the North Face will change you forever.
If you’re thinking about visiting the alps and want a beautiful chalet to call your own in the best village of them all, then look no further. We will definitely be visiting again!
The picturesque village of Grindelwald, and its neighbours, Wengen and Murren, come closer to the fairytale image of an alpine ski idyll than perhaps anywhere else in Europe. With extensive skiing, quaint cog railways or rustic ambience as well as the imposing north faces of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau that make this region so memorable, whether you’re there to ski or just to soak up the atmosphere. Few Alpine landscapes can have attracted as much attention from mountaineers and spectators as the legendary backdrop to this most traditional ski area. Its secret lies not just in the brooding north walls of the famous trio, the Monch, Eiger and Jungfrau but in the access afforded to non-climbers. Ascending by a train tunneled deep into the heart of the Eiger, they emerge at 3,545m on the edge of the Aletsch glacier - the biggest glacier in the Alps and the source of the river Rhone. There are stupendous views across the 4,000m peaks of the Bernese Oberland and north across the Swiss plains to Germany.Back at valley level, it's also the view that will dominate your day, and the skiing's good too. Trains carry skiers, as well as tourists, to the Kleine Scheidegg - a high point between Grindelwald and Wengen. Of the more conventional uplift, Grindelwald has Europe's longest gondola. The First (pronounced as in 'fierce') area behind Grindelwald village, has extensive and varied skiing on sunny south-facing slopes.
In the Summer and Fall, there is beautiful hiking and mountain biking options. So this is really a year-round destination.
