About Edwin and Maria Rosier

Hi. I'm Edwin Rosier. I was born and educated In Ipswich, Suffolk England and had the good fortune to marry an Irish girl. Her family are dotted all over Ireland so our 'home in Ireland' enables us to visit often and spend time with them.

Edwin and Maria Rosier purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Edwin and Maria Rosier chose Ireland

There are many beautiful places in the world to visit but few so unspoilt and yet so 'human' as in the small towns and villages of rural Ireland. Nature abounds with wildlife and a beauty that is unsurpassed. Come to Ireland to enjoy the culture, people and places in their traditional state - you will reflect, reminisce, relax and who knows, you may even decide to retire here!

What makes this cottage unique

Our cottage is located central in Connaught and as such provides access in all directions to the counties of Leitrim, Sligo, Roscommon and Galway. We may be biased but we truly believe that Mayo is the most beautiful county of Ireland. It's rugged scenery is both unassuming and delightful aligned as it is both North and West by the Atlantic coast. The many lakes, forests, woodlands and parks with their tranquil walks and varied flora and fauna make for a truly relaxing experience. The small towns of Mayo with their shops, pubs and restaurants provide for variety seldom found in larger more modern high streets and malls.

Rural retreat

Exactly as advertised . Rural farmhouse is remote and peaceful ! Enjoyed local towns of Kiltimagh and Claremorris . Good location for exploring Westport and Galway . Well supplied kitchen . Central heating supplemented by burning peat and coal in fireplace which we really enjoyed ! Very cosy on wet nights ! Low head clearance ( if over 5'10" ) into kitchen . Edwin visited us and was very friendly and hospitable !. Would recommend and would like to stay again.

Tranquillity itself..

  • 5 of 5

This lovely old farmhouse was a delight to stay in. Well equipped, very comfortable and generously stocked with fuel to guarantee warmth - the house is both centrally heated & has a fantastic open fire. There is a great garden to enjoy and the setting is so peaceful that we largely just forgot about the world beyond the gates.

However, when we stirred ourselves, it is also well situated for exploring Co.Mayo, with Westport and Achill Island to the North, Cong, Leenane & Ashford Castle to the South & Knock to the East. There are also a plethora of interesting old ruins & lakes in the area. The mountains and beaches of the West coast are well worth the drive to explore and much excellent seafood chowder was happily consumed in various pubs & restaurants en route.

The Rosiers are generous hosts and Trish the housekeeper was even there to meet us, fire lit for our arrival - wonderful! We would highly recommend this property for a real 'getaway' & time to relax.

Home away from home.

Such a lovely cottage, A warm welcome and keys handed over late at night on arrival. open fire had been lit. We really enjoyed our stay here. The board games, book and DVD library were really great for keeping my three boys (11, 13 and 15yrs) entertained. The house was warm and cosy. Great to have the dishwasher, washing machine and dryer all at hand.

Great base for us to visit relatives. Good local knowledge and tips given by Edwin...who also took the time and persevered to contact me after I had not received a vital email. We really appreciated you going the extra mile. Many thanks...and we hope to return soon.

A warm welcome and great vacation home!

My wife and I wanted a central location from which to explore Mayo and this house was the perfect place. When we arrived, housekeeper had lit the fire in the living room and the owner provided a nice bottle of wine. What a nice welcoming touch that immediately made us feel at home.

The house is well equipped and has everything you need to make your stay very comfortable.

We stayed at the house for only 4 nights but were so refreshed at the end of the short trip, it felt like we’d stayed longer. We would have no hesitation in recommending this house for your visit to Mayo.

If you are planning to fly to Dublin or Knock Ireland West airports then car hire can be booked in advance. Book through Ryanair using Hertz, or use auto-europe.co.uk, who in our experience are excellent. Driving in Ireland is straightforward and most of the rural roads are quiet and easy to navigate. No matter how long you have to spend, Mayo is a laid-back county where you will discover authentic Irish hospitality at its best. Our Farmhouse holiday cottage is located in County Mayo, Ireland only a few miles from the towns of Kiltimagh and Claremorris with their many restaurants and amenities. Galway, Westport, Ballina and the Mayo county town of Castlebar are all within an hour's drive as is the west coat, Joyce's Country and the beautiful Connemara National Park. Within easy reach is the Atlantic coast, Joyce's Country and the beautiful Connemara National Park. Westport and clew bay offer local fishing, golf, horse riding. There are many historical sites and places of interest to visit traditional pubs, 'ceol agus craic' and excellent food. Visit the town of Westport, at the base of the sacred mountain of Croagh Patrick. One of Europe`s most famous pilgrimage sites, the mountain is often climbed barefoot by devotees of St. Patrick but anyone is free to make the trip. Those that decide to do so are rewarded with stunning views of the island-strewn Clew Bay. Westport also offers less strenuous pursuits, including golf, fishing and cycling around town. Westport’s cheerful, multi-coloured shop fronts jostle for attention with an attractive selection of pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants. Little wonder it has become one of Ireland’s most popular and cosmopolitan holiday destinations. One of the few planned towns in Ireland the beautiful and unique boulevard known as The Mall was designed in the 18th Century by James Wyatt. Just a short drive from Westport lies Achill Island, a popular summer holiday destination for locals. Connected to the mainland by a two-lane bridge at Achill Sound, the large island offers lots of outdoor activities, with several blue flag beaches, surfing, hill-walking, wind surfing and golf all available to keep you busy. The island makes an excellent spot for a relaxing getaway and a couple of nights here is sure to leave you feeling completely de-stressed.

Driving in Ireland in straightforward and most of the rural roads are quiet and easy to navigate. No matter how long you have to spend, Mayo is a laidback county where you will discover authentic Irish hospitality at its best. The rugged and untamed wilderness of County Mayo on the

west coast of Ireland often overlooked by tourists yet the unspoiled and isolated nature of the place is precisely what makes this area such an excellent holiday destination. It may not suit those looking for wild parties or bustling resort towns but for anyone that enjoys the great outdoors, traditional hospitality and getting back to nature, County Mayo will certainly appeal to you. Ireland`s third largest county. Mayo offers a variety of scenery from the fishing villages on the coast to dramatic inland mountains, including a famous hilltop shrine. Some of the highlights of a holiday in County Mayo include a visit to the pretty town of Ballina on the River Moy, around 35 miles from Knock. Famous for its salmon fishing, the town really comes alive during the annual Salmon Festival in July, which involves live music, dancing and lots of children`s activities. The town is steeped in culture and history and is the main center for shopping and entertainment in northern Mayo.
